Southgate: "hellaw! oi mate, can I use your name for paper talks to set meself up a job search so i wont be unemployed after england?"

Ashworth "not this again! feck it, go on then"

Southgate: "cheers all the best god bless"

Trust me bro, I was in Wetherspoons with Sir Jim and Seb last night and its a done deal.
Id be more worried if I was a Chelsea fan to be honest. Southgate and that Chelsea squad look like a match made in heaven.

Luke Edwards is almost an employee of Newcastle. Wonder do they pay for his health insurance.

He’s got a point though. I remember someone pointing this out at the time, it just didn’t seem to get much attention because it’s Newcastle. But when United do something similar - see the Antony court case - it becomes a meme, and a stick to beat our higher ups with.

How would anyone know if someone is a gambler? Are you supposed to get their bank accounts? Take their phones?
Yeah it’s case in point at its most fullest, all of a sudden this United DoF is bad at his job because he couldn’t spot a gambler player. Despite Newcastle being desperate and petty to not let him go to someone they see as a rival.
When the story first broke months ago it was all about how sad it is for players with gambling issues plastered with gambling ads on their chests. Now it’s he’s a prick and Dan ashworth is bad at his job.
I’ve really come to hate Newcastle, their owners are clearly sportswashing the media way worse than any other case I’ve seen.
I’ve referred to it a few times but the way their “injury crisis” was spoken about every 2 minutes earlier this season was a fecking joke considering they had like 3 players out meanwhile we’ve had half a team out at all points of the last 10 seasons

He may well have a very valid point. Just interesting that he’s choosing to make it now. It’s PR rather than journalism.

This. How the feck would he know ? Bug his house ? Interrogate his ass ? Stalk him around ? Ask around the casinos in Milan ?? I am sure even most of his family members wont know his gambling addiction. What a bullcock crap hit piece. He's talking as if it is a public secret and Ashworth was blindsided by it. Even the Italian FA charged him AFTER his playing days there were over

I'm fine with the bugging his house option. Hire some ex-STASI pros, who fill find out about player's girlfriend having affairs with a state minister and who will hopefully also not hide his typewriter when the cops come to snatch it.

+1 When it is your job, you find a way to know. There is such a thing called private investigators, after all. If fecking FA found out, Ashworth should have known as well.

Everybody makes a mistake, doesn't mean Ashworth is a bad director of football, but it does look bad on his resume

Not sure if these are piss take or serious posts.

I love that I can’t figure out if this is a wind up or not.

You don't need actual proof. You just need intuition and some experience in reading people from the smallest thing they show.

Most businessman trusts their intuition when dealing with people more than simply statistic

He's absolutely terrible, and he hates us.

Surely this is a wind up post?

City had almost completed the Paqueta signing until a story broke about his gambling, I think it was the Brazilian FA that saved them then. If the deal had been closed earlier they would have looked like dummies. Bottom line, you need much more than intuition to know things a person and his club want to keep hidden.

fecking hell, so youth coaches and directors should have known that Ronaldo would end up in sexual abuse scandal and Greenwood would end up in domestic violence and sexual abuse case?

Brentford have the smartest folks working for them, wonder why they didn't know about Toney's betting history. Yeah it's because it's not possible. This is football, not selection for some FBI or some government secret service to have 100% background check including hacking phones.

Could live with one more summer of Murtough provided Berrada is involved with negotiations
I think they will just accelerate the Cox and Friedman appointments but if they don't come in now it's almost too late anyway.

You only find out what people want to tell you. If Milan kept it under wraps how was he supposed to know about it.

My word.

Spoken like the managing director of a bloke who runs a FTSE100 company

I think Newcastle not wanting him involved this summer is fair and makes perfect sense. Until 4 weeks ago he was heavily involved in their recruitment - you can’t have him just join another club and pass all that on. Everyone will compromise on September.

I'd be annoyed if we didn't have Berrarda. Feck Newcastle, enjoy paying him to do nothing you cnuts.
I don't really get the hostility. Isn't this fairly standard practice in situations like these?

Newcastle were never going to let us have him this summer unless we paid them a substantial fee, they know that would be bad optics. It might harm them more than it does us if they can't line up a replacement for this summer, mind.

They should just behave like grown ups like Man City did.

Both situations are different. Berrada has worked at City for a number of years and has built up enough goodwill that they were prepared to not to stand in his way when another job came because they recognised it was a promotion for him.

Newcastle headhunted Ashworth from Brighton a couple of years ago, had to pay out compensation and wait out a period of leave before he could start work. Now 18 months later he's off again to another club in similar circumstances. It was never realistic to expect them to accept it lying down.

Ashworth is also getting a promotion no?

He's not coming here as DOF. He's going to be above that role.

Perhaps but he doesn't have the same goodwill that Berrada earned at City and has likely angered Newcastle if anything. Ashworth hasn't seen through the job he was brought in to do at Newcastle yet. They want to be compensated for that accordingly.

I don't even like Newcastle and I think their owners are despicable but this would happen at almost any club where the circumstances were the same.
