Dan Ashworth 2024/2025

Is there like anything to base this on?

Might as well say he wants to bring Moyes back.
Southgate still short odds with the bookies and their punters and didn't Dan Ashworth appoint Southgate as England manager. I'd agree going nowhere if that appointment is made.

If he appointed Southgate as manager he will lose 90% of the fans support real fast. I don't think he is that stupid to take this risk. Hiring Southgate as manager can only end up in a lot of negative. Southgate is one of the most successful England's manager but most fans can't stand his negative football. This will be a sucidal move for Ashworth.

We have 6 centrebacks and 0 left backs. Thats a bit bonkers however you want to dress it up.

Letting multiple players in the same position run their contracts into the final year isn't exactly an argument that we are managing or investing in the squad well either.

I'm not sure exactly how much of this is down to Ashworth. Certainly not all of it, but it's a massive mess
Yes I certainly would have preferred we just got one centre back in and focussed money on another central midfielder of wide forward

40m for De Ligt was a no brainer and he is only 25.

Maguire is 31, Evans is 36, Lindelof is crap.

Yoro got injured in a pre season match, hardly the clubs fault.
How can you say de ligt was a no brained? Signing a fairly slow centre back when we already have martinez and a new manager is likely to want us to play higher up the pitch seems risky to me

Because CB's of his calibre usually costs much more than that. Everton wanted 70m for Branthwaite ffs.

De Ligt never had a problem playing a high line for Ajax and Bayern.

Martinez is only 1 CB and he had a bad injury when De Ligt was signed.

Martinez, Yoro, De Ligt is a very good list of CB options to have.

Maguire, Lindelof and Evans can be phased out without having to spend that much money on De Ligt.

Moved on the 4th of Sept, so he would have been viable. But no way Napoli would allow him to go to an EPL club on the same terms, just wouldn't happen.
So he moved after we already signed Zirkzee so the point about saving Zirkzee money makes zero sense

I wasn't the one suggesting him as a signing. He's probably not a great selection to add to our dressing room.
I'm honestly happy to see Zirkzee given time to develop, if he fails, he's not on huge wages and he'd have Italian clubs chasing him.

Yeah but the point of my post was about them both in response to someone saying we could have got Osimhen on loan instead of Zirkzee which clearly makes zero sense

Wait didn't you take issue with being accused of hyperbole?

Hyperbole by definition is an exaggerated statement not meant to be taken literally.

Which way do you want it?

I took issue with it? Not really! I just replied (to someone else) that Ashworth's record is mediocre, regardless of how I frame it.

You're the one who jumped in taking it literally that 14th is good in Ashworth's eyes.

Like everyone in the club. Everyone play some part.

Not sure who made the decision not buying a left back, for example. When Armass wasn't good enough. Dalot all over the place as left back. A stress boy and player on the top lock = lack of calmness in the finish moment.

Martinez lack of top speed and explosive as left back. At the top level and against the top level.

But again the football board and team shall take their blame too. Too be honest.

We can't solve all squad issues in one window. I think CB depth (De Ligt, Yoro) after last season, CF depth (we were stuck with McTominay / Rashford at CF when Hojlund was unavailable or not firing), CM depth were more important. They recognize that it's an area we need to strengthen but we chose to hobble along assuming one of Mazraoui, Dalot, Martinez, Shaw or Malacia would be available. I think it'll prove to be a decent bet over the course of the season.

This was also one of the reasons why we sold AWB and got in Mazraoui.
