He is ok. However didn't we pay like 20 for him? I was thinking in this marked, 20-30m would be the correct price. Not going to happen tho

he's aged and declined since then.

Be much better options out there for 20-30 million.

I'd take 10-15 as its better for club and player for him to move on

This is nothing against Jones; a lack of a player of Blind's quality in the team really did hurt the defence against chelsea. He plays with his brain & would be two steps ahead of hazard the whole game leaving Herrera to do more throughout the game as well. I'm not talking about at DM either.

It's a shame really - countless managers have tried & tried wondering why smalling & Jones fail as a partnership. I saw it in Smalling's best season under van gaal that a defender like him is seriously talented but needs a calming presence around him like blind - whilst he can focus on the dirty work.

I'd have loved to see what Jones could have done next to blind in a back 3.

Smalling - Blind - Jones

A shame really. An underrated player that got thrown under the bus at CB almost instantly for not being the managers style. The perfect attacking CB to play in a back 3 was in front of Jose's eyes - one who can roam around DM offensively & defensively before settling between 2 central defenders who can cover some of his defeciencies as well.

Was a joy to watch for me but an underutilised player that could have affected our defensive, attacking game as well as freedom of plenty of players to do their thing from deep.

Looked poor for Slovakia's first goal tonight. Tough to defend though.

Not a top club CB for me but if i were Lazio, i'd bring him to Italy after losing De Vrij to Inter on a free. Blind wouldn't cost too much either with only 1 (+1 option we have) year left on his contract now.

Did you not see the amount of mistakes he made? Think you are seriously over rating him buddy.

It's not about overating him or underrating him bud - one of the biggest flaws for me is that simply we are not a good team & we don't seem to play as a team ethic which is inclusive of partnerships.

Very few players apart our target man is played with players that manage to get the best out them.
Some few examples -
Give 100 games to Rashford, Martial or Lukaku - I'd say 75% of the games they would be better together in a partnership upfront rather than playing as individuals with their individualistic ability.

Bailly & Rojo, Smalling & Jones - these players are good on paper and are generally quite similar; however when together they do the exact same job as each other - leading to the same exact weaknesses.

Blind to me is a player who is different - a player that can do a different job that Smalling & Jones cant do - whilst they can do the job that Blind cannot do such as speed, aggression etc.

Why I may overrate blind is not because I regard him as a truly wonderful sole CB like the next Ramos - instead I find him a player who has the balance of playing a mix between CDM/CB hybrid player that can bind life to the centre of a back 3. A bit like Luiz but with much more class and ability on the ball. When we play a back 3 we don't need 3 cb's we need 2 and 1 false CB like Blind.

That's why I rate him. He has the ability to give us the right balance between attack & defence in a back 3 due to his experiences at CDM & CB whilst he will 100% make smalling & Jones better next to him & vise versa.

I really don’t see Blind like that at all. I think your love of him is much like mine with Draxler and we simply over rate them. I watched Blind virtually every game he played here and he was decent but his pace and physicality often got found out. He also had a tendency to switch off in games. Decent player with great composure but doesn’t really merit building a team around no way.

Looked poor? It’s the team mistakes that lead to that position and Hamsik’s cross that lead to that goal rather than Daley Blind being outmuscled and out jumped by a giant.

Saying he looked poor doesn't exclude what led to the goal. Goalkeeper and defender are usually the last people in a line of mistakes. I also acknowledged that it was tough to defend, but I also think he could have done better. Both things can be true.

I've always liked him, but clearly Jose sees it differently, and I must admit I'm quite surprised at the lack of links to interested clubs so far (unless I've missed it).

He's surely a valuable asset (£20 m +), and one that alot of clubs would want, and be lucky to have, or am I wrong?

I watched the entire game. There was absolutely no pressure on the ball there so Hamsik had all the time in the world to put in a good cross. We played with 3 central defenders so De Ligt and De Vrij, both tall, can normally defend high balls but this time Blind happened to be there all alone. Not to forget that it was a beautiful ball from Hamsik. Also, Blind has barely played this season so he has no rhythm.

Should probably be able to get £12m for him, will be good for the right type of team.

When Van Gaal moved him to centre back at the start of the 15/16 season (or in Summer 2015 in pre-season) i thought it was a big mistake as he's not tall or strong enough to play the role but Blind played very well as a centre back and formed a good partnership with Smalling that season. And he was quite good against physical beasts like Lukaku, Deeney, Gomis too. His diagonal balls were just  One of the most intelligent and technically talented guys to play for us like Mata who was not physical or fast enough unfortunately. These are the only shortcomings for him to be a regular for a top club but i hope he moves for his own good and play week in week out at a good level club.

I know right - I might be shooting myself in the foot but I genuinely believe in a back 3 - he is the man to make the difference to give a balance between attacking & defence that we never see when we line up as a back 3. Our problem for that is not as simple as buying a ball playing defender - they just become a static defender that can play the ball from deep. However Blind is someone who can play in front and inbetween the back 2(giving us a dynamic back 3)- give the two central defenders the defensive and attacking support we need alongside being a deep lying playmaker that plays in defence away from the opposition midfield

I just hope the lad get's injured I honestly do so he won't be sold - he is currently under the manager in the world that would appreciate the abilities he has on his palate the least.

The lad is a niche player - something you have to be to play the central defender in the back 3; much like Dier of tottenham but with more technique and dictation of the ball. What i saw him bring to Smalling's game is something I want to see him bring to Jones on the other side of him or Bailly; whilst those are the defenders that brings to him what he lacks; pace, height and aggression.

That is how we should aim to build a defensive back line - ideally a back 3 where we can blend attack with defense - one defenders weakness to another's strengths.
