Like Blind but not as a defender but bloody hell he was superb today! Go on son.
Just don't know what he needs to do to prove his worth to you lot. Positionally he is amazing and hes just ice cold.

Absolute class yet again. Don't know why people want to to drop him for Smalling.

He has been excellent. But Smalling was a better defender during last season.

You know, we can play Smalling and Bailly at the back and play Blind in center midfield. Blind is miles better defender than Fellaini and can actually make threatening balls along the ground from deep position that Fellaini doesn't have technique and vision for.

His reading of the game today was silly. Almost telepathic sometimes. At one point Bailly did that dummy where the CB makes to head clear then lets the ball bounce over him, and Blind was moving to take possession of that second ball before Bailly had even done the dummy.

He and Bailly look scarily good together. True test comes against City though.

Love him, been saying for years he'd be one of the best players in the world if he had the pace to match his footballing brain. The lad makes the game look insanely easy.

No.

They are playing in right positions for this system. Fellaini will stop most balls from the mid so that the CBs don't have to come up to deal with first time balls all the time which can make them out of positions. Fellaini has been excellent at it. Blind can mop whatever he and bailly spill in case with his superb reading of the game.

But, fellaini can't pass as good as blind. So blind does that passing from the deep. The 3 of them, 2 Cbs and him fit together. Playing smalling instead of blind and putting blind ahead of him would upset the whole balance with how we like to defend as a unit and distribution from the deep.

Very simple and effective system. People like to move players around coz they like a player to be in first IX even when the system is working.

He was last season, although Blind was great too. But he's stepped it up another level so far this season.
I've to disagree. Perhaps Smalling had better "top defending" moments, but Blind had the consistency, which I preferred more

What a great player he's turned out to be. Pep must be jealous of us, Blind is such a good ball playing defender and so good at reading the game.

Bar DDG, he should be the 1st starter in the team imo. He just has to play.

Like I've said from the start, Jose will continue to pick him ahead of Smalling. He brings a calming influence to our back line which we would greatly miss without him.

He's better and better every game. Him and Bailly are already making a very good CB pair.

Chris is going to find it hard to get a start. Daley has been brilliant and the partnership is solid. Its great having a back five which fans have confidence in.

I can't remember seeing a smoother CB. Not at United at least

He may lack the pace and the power, but he more than makes up for it with guile, positioning and technique.

Also, having a CB that can actually play the ball forward is a blessing.

What I love seeing how quickly he transitions the play into attack by making a good pass. One second he'll be winning the ball in his own half, the next second, a winger/full back or CM would have the ball and we shall be attacking again. Seems unreal at times.

I think he was our best player today. He also complements Bailly really well.

Fantastic again. He's such an intelligent player, reads the game so well, and his attitude is fantastic.

Let's see how our two CBs do against city next.

Good post, he is a vital cog in our defence.

He was imperious today, he read the game like War & Peace and his quick and accurate distribution enabled us to keep the pressure on Hull.

His weight of passes is incredible, the runner has to make 3 steps to catch it perfectly. His style in general is so easy on the eye.

Agreed.
Pep would love to have a ball playing CB like Blind.
Given that he's just paid £45M+ for Stones, it shows what a great deal we got when we bought Blind for a comparatively low price.

I would certainly not be starting Smalling, when the defensive partnership of Baily/Blind has been almost impregnable for the last 3 games.

He's not one to rely on pace either so we could possibly have him playing at his best for another 8-10 years if we're lucky!

Well done Daley. Fantastic start to the season and brilliant understanding with Bailly.

The way he covered for Bailly at times was magnificent. Loved his reading of the game.

I think it's really clicking for him this season by playing every game at CB. Sometimes last season he used to drift out of the game and get caught every so often. Now hes stopped that which has been a massive help for us.

His game against West Ham when we lost was atrocious. Glad hes sorted himself and is making further progress.

smalling drifted out and got caught a lot too. The recent example was in FA cup final. It was because apparently LVG made his CBs to play that way and none of DM who played last season was playing the same role as the elbow man or as good as him in last 3 years in term of 'protecting' the defense.

So our defense was all over the place sometimes last season. It seems a lot more compact and less moving around too much under Jose which is a good thing.

If rumours are to be believed, he won over Mourinho. Which was the big challenge for him. After the way his players performed last season, Mourinho isnt likely to have the wool pulled over his eyes. Blind looks an absolute different class. Tremendous on the ball.

If he was bought as a CB this season (and given the performances so far), would people be saying that our defense is sorted for the next five or so years (barring injuries)?

United's MoM.

His reading of the game is Carrick-esque. I'm still concerned about his lack of pace and physicality to be a top class defender in the Premiership.

Yes. It'll probably result in people's opinions of him fluctuating dramatically game by game depending upon how good or bad he plays.

Based on your Carrick comparison where do you feel his best position actually is? Central defence or central midfield?
