I hear that Tyler is not usual sub for Peterborough. Should not have had him on bench. I feel they used the lad to get publicity while denying him a small moment. Sad and petty.

Here is a bit of pub quiz trivia for you all -

There is a player X who has came on as a sub at the same time as player Y in the PL, and then came on as a sub with player Y's son in the PL.

Who is Player X?

Bonus points if you know Player Y and his son.
Steve Harper.
Initially with Brucey for Newcastle and later with his son (Alex) for Hull

I agree with Premier League winner Darren Ferguson that Tyler shouldn’t be given special treatment because of his father!

They didn't use him for publicity whatsoever, as the manager said - had the game been 2-0 in the 88th minute he'd have put him on. They'd have expected Everton to be too strong for them. As it was, the score was only 1-0 so they put a lad who'd scored 7 goals this season on rather than a kid who'd played less than 30 minutes of football in his life. I'd have been fecking fuming if as a Peterborough fan I'd travelled and seen the manager throw on a kid for a story in the last 10 minutes and leave a genuine potential goalscorer on the bench with only one goal in the game. It's Everton's fault ultimately for being shite.

Was he even that bad? Memory might have faded a lot, but I remember him being decent enough for us to make his appearances less controversial than on paper. But no doubt nepotism is what gave him his career in the first place, though!

Not 100% but is it James Milner?

Would he have played with haaland's dad at leeds and with erling at city?

If so then its possible he came on with both of them at some point.

Correct on Player X, but wrong player Y.

Trevor Sinclair?
Maybe came on for wrighty and wrighty Phillips?

My dad wouldn't have a chance against Son in a football match, but he'd definitely kick his ass an a brawl.

Justin Kluivert played against Patrick Kluivert in the dutch league in 2017

Cesare and Paulo Maldini: Both were a part of the Italien squad at the world cup in 1994

Nope!

You got it!

Lee Clark at Newcastle and Bobby Clark at Liverpool.

Arrrgh, I'd ruled them out! The way you worded it, "come on as a sub at the same time" I thought you meant as a double substitution, entering the pitch at the same time.

Think there might be more than one if it's just been subbed on at all in the same game.

Edit: You can have Marcus Hall at Coventry with Gordon and Gavin Strachan. Maybe a few more from them. Father and Son weren't too far apart at all.

I meant it as Milner subbed on at same time as Lee Clark when they were at Newcastle and then he was subbed on at the same time as Bobby Clark when at Liverpool.

I'm really stupid, so not at the same minute? (Because that didn't happen with Milner and the Clarks). Milner came on as a sub 7 minutes afer Lee Clark once, 14 minutes before Bobby Clark once.

Joe Cole did the same sort of thing with Ian Wright/Shaun Wright Phillips. Marcus Hall with Gordon and Gavin Strachan. Might be a few more through Ian Wright actually.

Yes he had to make the five subs, 100%. It would have been better to just not put him in the squad. He isn’t usually. PR stunt. If you put him in…put him on. There’s five subs can be made.

Rivaldo came out of retirement to play alongside his son Rivaldinho. Both scored in the same match, and I think Rivaldo went back to being club president afterwards.

Oh woops. I read the tweet wrong.

He never played again in the top flight after he left and spent only played one season where he got more than 5 appearances which was 92/93 when he had 15 appearances. Even then he didn’t play again after November and we weren’t great at the start of that season. He is not the only player with a similar record who got a league winners' medal but I’m sure his surname helped!

Berkovic (West Ham/City) and Veira (Arsenal/City) both played with Wright and Wright-Phillips.

Mainly starting the thread because this is such a heartwarming story (and I’ve always had a big soft spot for Ashley Young)

Is it a first though? Any other dad v son encounters in professional football?
None thst I can think in football, but one that gets thrown around a lot in rugby is Andy Farrels last club game was his sons first professional game when Owen came on as a sub for his dad.

Thankfully, thats my older brother not my dad! Names are a bit of a misnomer
