Dad v Son

there’s a couple i can think of;

alex ferguson v duncan ferguson in his playing days.

jose mourinho v joao moutinho, ditto.

think it is a first

we have had a few mangers who have played their sons team. Probably loads but only one I can think of right now is the Redknapps

Shaqueel van Persie has just signed a contract extension at Feyenoord. Left footed attacking player

Jordi Cruijff was probably mostly hampered by his dad name (hence the decision to play with "Jordi" on his shirt eventually). An okay player in his own right, but no Cruijff.

David and Brooklyn Beckham both played in the same Charity match at Old Trafford.

Also Brazillian Legend Romario plays alongside his son Romarinho as America-RJ in Brazil

Replaced as in subbed on for him? So not technically on the pitch at the same time?
Nope. Apparently they were meant to but some big dog wanted them to do it on home turf rather than away. Eidur then broke his leg or ankle and then by the time he had fully recovered his dad had retired.

Interesting this is such a rarity. Happens all the time in the only team sport I still play. Although is helped by it being an amateur sport where kids are allowed play for the senior team as soon as they turn 15 and it's not in any way unusual to keep playing into your 40s.

Never happened for me, unfortunately, as my young fella turned his nose up at my "sissy sport" and will only play football and rugby. Which will be a source of eternal regret. Always feel a bit jealous when I see dads playing with/against their sons.

Here is a bit of pub quiz trivia for you all -

There is a player X who has came on as a sub at the same time as player Y in the PL, and then came on as a sub with player Y's son in the PL.

Who is Player X?

Bonus points if you know Player Y and his son.

Yeah but apart from that it’s basically the same thing.

Alec Herd and his son David both played for Stockport County in the last game of the 1950-51 season in the old Third Division (3rd tier, now League One).

Is this Milner and the Clarks?

When I say "happens all the time" I mean on mulltiple occasions every weekend. And when I say "interesting it's such a rarity" I mean it's interesting that it looks as though - if it happens tonight - it will be the first time it's happened in the history of professional football. Which is a bit mad when you think that it's probably not all that unusual for footballers to become parents in their late teens.

Ian and Gary Bowyer at Hereford in 1989-90

Henrik Larsson played with Jordan for 1 game at a 4th tier Swedish side

Alexei Eremenko Sr played alongside Alexei Eremenko Jr at HJK Helsinki and then left to join his other son Roman at Jaro

Is RvP's son any good?

Mainly starting the thread because this is such a heartwarming story (and I’ve always had a big soft spot for Ashley Young)

Is it a first though? Any other dad v son encounters in professional football?
I googled Ashley youngs father there for 5 minute and was thinking how could this happen
