CWG Delhi 2010

She's just so unfit, her strokes are good but her fitness levels are very poor. She was promising in her first year only, it all went downhill from there whereas Nehwal is a great talent, already a top player in badminton despite being only 19 or 20. Fingers Crossed, She realizes her potential as we have a potential Olympic Gold Medal on our hands.

:nono:
You try running with those baps and you'll realise how tough she's got it. I usually pant after seeing her run!. She shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a tennis court. The hype and the hoola the media created has overblown her talent of which she has very little of.

The Media Hoopla was quite predictable tbh.

Decent looking Indian Sportsperspn playing a high profile sport(not cricket).

Glad too see Nehwal not getting the same attention tbh, however with Gopichand as her coach, she atleast have someone who has seen it all before.

We've got 24 golds now. Watch as the media over blows our success and starts expecting a similar haul in the next olympics. The morons.

To be fair, somehow I really do think we'll better the solitary gold we got last time in the olympics. If only because of Gagan Narang who seems to be a level or two above everyone whose competing in the shooting events. We have no chance in any other event though.

Our Boxing and Weightlifting is actually pretty good.

Vijender and Akhil Singh can win us a gold in boxing if luck goes their way, whereas Nehwal can win a gold in next Olympics if she keeps on progressing like this.

She has been getting some amount of attention. But sadly badminton isn't as high profile or as glamorous as tennis. So the bastards who run our news channels still run after talentless showoffs like Ms. Mirza.

She's quite talented and i really hope she climbs the ladder to success. One thing about having a former champion as the coach is that he helps to keep you grounded. She's on the right path to glory though.

I remember Mirza being a front page news when she won her 2nd Round Match at Wimbledon in her breakthrough year

Sushil Kumar is one name i keep hearing in wrestling. I keep searching for his name, but can't find it.

Yeah, realised we've got some talent in the Boxing department after i clicked reply. Nehwal has got the talent, if she fulfils her talent, she has every chance of winning us a medal. The next olympics should get us our best ever haul, if it doesn't we need to close our olympic association and re organize the entire sports ministry which in its current form is already a farce.

you can add wrestling also to the list...these new facilities will surely help our athletes.

Yeah forgot about him.

Bronze Medalist at Beijing, won the Wrestling World Championship if i'm not wrong. Decent prospect for medal actually.

Your right about the next Olympics, but first of all they should sack all the politicians in charge of our sporting associations, and hire professionals instead of them.

Aye. Forgot about wrestling actually. It'll be interesting how these new stadiums and facilities will help our sports persons in the future, finally we have some world class infrastructure that our sports really needed.

Aren't most of the machinery leased?. They'd be returned after the games, thats what i heard actually.

What we need in facilities in the villages, not in metropolitans like delhi.

Ok spot question to both you and Vidared, Whats the ground news on the cwg 2010. Is it a success?. In your opinion should we even bother trying to bid for the Olympics?

IMO Yes, it's been a success, I've been to various events in the past few days and I found out that the crowd turning out was not so great, it wasn't so bad as the media(mostly Western) is making them to be. The reports of the Village has been quite awesome(CWG Chief saying that it's best CWG village ever) while the sporting venues looks great.

Even the Olympics Chief said that, if the hosting of this games is successful, we have a strong chance of hosting the Olympics, The games has been much better than my expectations tbh.

Hosting the Olympics would be quite sensational tbh, I hope that happens!

Its only natural that we throng to see games we're competing in. The Boxing matches have near capacity from what i've seen on TV. Tennis matches having Indians play has also played to near full capacity. Apparently some idiot from SA doesn't want people to cheer or make noises in the swimming event, and don't think we have any swimmer of note.

The news stations in India and world over seems to want to go from one extreme to another. Like someone said in the other thread, it seems like they want us to fail or something. I've read reports of CWG 02 being even worse as far as sanitary conditions go, but the british media seem to be by far the harshest in terms of condemning our lack sanitation. Double standards and all that.

And will someone ask the world to stop calling us a third world country?.

According to new reports and a study by usa we are the 3rd most powerful country after usa and china. Third world country is a phrase coined by the west to make themselves feel better.

The games have been a success...ive been to a few events and the crowd was good. Yesterday badminton was full and today i went to see boxing and it was also full. Tickets weren't available for it and some people bought it in black. Naturally netball and track and field will get fewer people since Indians aren't expected to win and people also find it boring (i do also). The games village has been the best with the athletes singing praises but the media is hellbent on finding the smallest faults and blowing it out of proportion.

I took this pic today...India isn't even participating and yet the place was full

I have a few similar pics of the tennis and badminton matches...I'll upload them when I can be arsed to.

Olympics? feck off...not for the next 20 odd years. Not until we actually have some kind of sporting culture in this country. I'd give it a generation.

Did anyone see Sushil Kumar's wrestling bout just now, finished the Semi-Final in just about 5 seconds

I give up!. The official website is bloody useless. I can't even view the results.

What happened to the hockey match? Ind Vs Pak?. What happened to the Vijender boxing match? Some one please updates the results and find me a site please.

whats wrong with the BBC site?

India whooped Pakistan in the hockey, it wasn't even close, India 7 - Pakiatan 4.

It was 6-2 at one point.

What do you expect when almost a third of India's population is below the poverty line. It's developing fast but it's still not a developed nation.

We also have more people above the poverty line than your population :p

In fairness having been ravaged for a couple of centuries with all the wealth and resources stolen we are doing quite well considering what our situation was 60 years ago.

Wow, England at 3rd with gold medals, and 2nd overall.

Amazing for a country so small.

Actually not so amazing for a country that has a 'first world budget' and facilities available to athletes, not to mention the sponsors their athletes have compared to some of the other countries. The table to me looks about right. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

For India it isn't actually. They're still rubbish truth be told.

Hit a nerve, did I? I actually wouldn’t mind seeing them upset England tonight, but I won’t be holding my breath.

All of your posts in this thread has been for criticizing the games, upset that Indian is defeating Australia in Cricket?

Kabbadi is conspicuously absent from these games.

Presumably it's to avoid the national embarrassment that would ensue when Bangladesh wiped the floor with you cnuts.

Didn't watch the boxing, but in the highlights the Indian bloke who lost his semifinal couldn't stop complaining, NDTV(toned down FoxNews..hahah) also carried this, and ran with it.

Those who watched? Was the judging as biased as they made it out to be? On NDTV, they were implying not just his match, but that the officials were biased towards the English in the boxing as a whole...but then on Sky last night, they were saying, No English Boxer had made it to even a Bronze medal fight.

Amir Khan's brother is in the Bronze medal match in his weight class, and was talking shit about England for not thinking he was good enough...hehe.

When is Saina Nehwal playing? Is it the next match?
