I have a feeling these games will actually make people believe we have some ability when it comes to international events, which couldn't e further from the truth.

Right so some good action to look forward to in some sports. India Pak hockey in a couple of days, Paes and Bhupathi play some Lankan no hopers today and India continue to happily pummel novices in badminton. First golds of the day from weightlifters and shooters today.

I'm going for the tennis and badminton finals. Should be fun.

The crowds have been a joke.

Australia lead the medal tally, as expected, India in 2nd, and Bangladesh actually have a medal!!!!!!

A Bronze, not sure what sport, probably shooting, we're pretty good at it.

Not a surprise that our shooting and weightlifting winning us medals. I'm expecting loads of medals from Shooting, Weightlifting and Boxing, three of our strongest aspects IMO.

Saina Nehwal should also get us a medal, while Peas-Bhupathi also. Not so sure about Mirza, she's tennis version of Yuvraj Singh, spends more time on glamour rather than playing the sport.

I used to love these things when I was a kid but I haven't watched a minute of it yet.

Australian stripped of silver medal for rude gesture
October 6, 2010 - 1:41AM

Australian wrestler Hassene Fkiri lost his temper and a certain medal in the 96kg Greco-Roman class at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

Tunisian-born Fkiri, 36, was disqualified midway through his gold medal bout against India’s Anil Kumar at the Indira Gandhi Complex in Delhi.

Fkiri appeared to have been disqualified for making an obscene gesture to the judges.
The decision ... India's Anil Kumar is awarded the gold medal in the men's 96kg category of the Greco-Roman wrestling, as Australia's Hassene Fkiri (left) looks on.

The Australian looked frustrated during the bout, at one point trying to slap and headbutt his local rival before eventually giving the finger to international wrestling officials.

Australian wrestling team manager Kuldip Bassi said Fkiri lost his temper and was completely devastated by the outcome.

‘‘He should have been happy with the silver and he probably didn’t want to lose,’’ he said.

‘‘He was really upset and he said he lost control, he pointed the finger towards FILA people, which is the worldwide organisation.

‘‘I asked him, ’Did you do it?’ and he said yes he did. So that’s the end of the story, you can’t do anything more than that.

‘‘He shouldn’t have done that, he is a very senior wrestler ... whether you win or lose I think you’ve got to accept it, you’ve got to respect everybody, it is not really sportsmanship.

‘‘He made a big mistake so he paid a big price for it.’’

Bassi said Kumar had provoked Fkiri by pulling his neck during the bout.

‘‘This is a tactic of wrestling, I told him before he went on that’s what’s is going to happen and just be calm,’’ he said.

Australian team official Leonid Zaslavsky said Fkiri’s behaviour was inexcusable, but partly understandable.

‘‘The other side was sort of to blame, if you like,’’ he said.

‘‘There were some things the other side was doing that wasn’t exactly by the rules either, he obviously lost his cool.

‘‘Maybe it was a ploy by the other side to upset him, I don’t know, he’s not normally like that.’’

Fkiri, who wrestled for Tunisia at the 2000 Sydney Games, was too distraught to speak to the media following the incident.

Earlier, Former Iranian wrestler Hassan Shahsavan has won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal for Australia in the 74kg Greco-Roman class.

The 34-year-old Beijing Olympian beat Pakistan’s Muhammad Ali in two sets, before giving Nigerian Perefegha Kiribein the same treatment in the repechage final to claim third spot on the podium at the Indira Gandhi Complex in Delhi on Tuesday.

AAP

hahahahaha....What an idiot. So it's not a Gold Medal, now you've got nothing.

5 Gold Medals today for India, Excellent haul that!

Atleast Yuvraj is a flat track bully. Mirza has nothing but huge baps. Baps.

Wait, huge isn't the correct word!. A pic of hers in some newspaper the other day made it look almost disproportional. Humongous.

in a red top ? :boring:

What did you expect? Like people over there care about most of these sports....

Netball...pffft.

What about Hockey? Don't Indians enjoy that?

There have been more players on the ground than people in the stands for most of the games. Horrible look for the games.

wtf are you talking about ??? a good number of people were there to watch the hockey game.

You must be talking about the Indian game, because from the games I've seen there has been hardly any spectators. The crowds overall so far have been an embarrassment.

I disagree. Crowds start filling in during the afternoon and evening.

Nah looks like noones turning up.

And Sania is very average looking.

No, embarrassment is only when you expect more of a crowd. I'm pretty sure the organizers never expected larger crowds except where India's actually involved. What else do you expect from a cricket crazy nation? Cricket is the only sport they really give a rats ass about. Add to that the fact that India is a 3rd world country with hight levels of poverty and it becomes pretty clear that turnout was never going to be massive. Furthermore, the turnout at the evening events have been picking up, let's lose sight of the fact that it is extremely hot during the day in India.

Heh...3rd world...been ages since someone called us that.

Went for tennis today. Coincidentally ended up sitting next to Sania and Shoaib Malik for most of the game. The Delhi crowd obviously lost interest in the men's doubles match once she made an appearance. Shit game too..the Scots are incredibly average at everything as a race.

Women's 100m has descended into complete farce...

Australia declared the winner.

England protest, it is 1st said to be dismissed.

Nigeria launch secondary protest.

Australia has been stripped of Gold Medal, but the authorities are now saying 1st protest might not have been dismissed after all.

*Protests came about because of a false start.

hopefully australia is stripped of the gold.

How big is Delhi's middle class?

And what sort of prices have they set for the tickets?

Sounds like someone bitter at Australia whitewashing the field...probably a Pom.....

That 100M was a disgrace, what a joke! Talk about backflips!

not really!

in fairness its a farce swimming and track & field account for half the medals

Even if their middle class is 'big' and the prices are affordable you will still find low attendance at an event like the CW games. Reason being that India don't pay much attention to anything other than cricket.

I dont know if its a farce as such. It does skew things though, like a swimmer can pick up half a dozen medals and a runner only a couple. A team sport athlete can only win one. Makes comparisions unfair.

The venues have been quite superb, surprisingly. I've gone to the athletics, tennis and badminton venues and it's been pretty good overall. The crowds are shit though....not referring to the attendance here(most were half full on a working day) but the general quality. No etiquette at all...irritatingly bad manners.

Not sure why the etiquette at the Tennis should be bad, India hosts tournaments, so it's not like a international swim meets, which I can imgaine would be rare.

Overenthusiastic?

We're a bad mannered race in general. And tennis matches are always played in a cricket/football like atmosphere here if there's a good crowd. Quite ridiculous.

Saina's the real deal, not the made up immovable object that neither has the talent nor the looks.

She's a class apart from the other women badminton players in the tournament, that's for sure. Watching her live was the highlight of the Games for me.

And she's very young isn't she. A real gem of a talent we have it seems from everything I've read and the little I've seen. The last game was very entertaining, I'm guessing that's the one you went for?

And did I say that Sania's rubbish at tennis?

Oh please. She doesn't play tennis, she just comes onto the court for the benefit of a thousand teens who watch her match just to see her serve. I was one of them teens a year or two back. Did i tell you her baps are huge? .

Saina is everything Sania isn't. For one thing, she's talented at her sport.

even i watched her match! i was near sitting near where the other players were sitting.

she was flashing her cleavage all over the court yesterday!

She's just so unfit, her strokes are good but her fitness levels are very poor. She was promising in her first year only, it all went downhill from there whereas Nehwal is a great talent, already a top player in badminton despite being only 19 or 20. Fingers Crossed, She realizes her potential as we have a potential Olympic Gold Medal on our hands.
