I wouldn't call any place a shithole and I don't know Cuban specifics too well; but yes, it's been a tyranny under a dictator pretty much since Castro came to power, and human rights violations are par for the course over there. (Like they have been anywhere they tried to introduce communism.) I'd add that the US blockade did strongly affect its economic situation though. Wasn't it much better at the start of Castro's rule?

i also like a strong goverment that protects the poor over the rich one
that gives health care for everyone and that takes care of the people in need
but when you live in an allegedly leftist country and all you see is clientelism, more poverty and less freedom, you start wondering if what the lefties tell you is true

Yeah, situation seems to be pretty grim in Cuba. I'm gonna express my empathy with the Cubans and interest into the situation by educating myself about the problematic government, the embargo and the historical development OWNING THE FECKING LIBS, TAKE THAT LEFTIES AND GO LIVE IN THAT COMMUNIST SHITHOLE.
they probably do, why wouldnt they? but at least they don't try to tell you that those places are paradises were everyone eats, have education and great health care systems

I don't know, I have seen plenty oppose to far right movements and I have seen some act as if Orban was the greatest man alive. My guess is that your assumption is wrong since I have rarely seen a leftie claim that Cuba was a paradise but I could be wrong.

To be fair, all of the Caribbean is a paradise and most of the countries there are in the shitter. So perhaps the real question we should be asking is what is preventing these countries from becoming more prosperous?
I'm afraid the answer might be that rich western corporations make a lot of money there but take most of it out, leaving little for the people that live there.
