Completely agreed.

His success at Madrid doesn't really reflect positively on us, no matter how much some want it to.
He could have stayed longer and given the club more of his peak, but he chose not to.

Good luck to him, but he's much more of a Madrid legend than a United one. I hope he doesn't come back either.
Why would any United fan not want us to sign the best player in the world, regardless of if you consider him a club legend?

Wages, transfer fee, youth not being developed, I don't really know why some wouldn't want him back. Absolute legend for me, only tainted a bit by his slave comments and the like during his last year or so here, but his comments about the club afterwards has convinced me that he still loves the club.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat; having him in your team is like starting a game 1-0 or 2-0 up. He's just so effective at what he does.

This must another hint to your secret, strongly-held opinions that you have been told not to share by the mods.

I think is super clear there my opinion.

It says a lot about the state of our team that most of our fans take joy from seeing a player who turned his back to the club score for cnut team against Liverpool.

We should take joy from us beating Liverpool, not a football club that has no connection to us whatsoever other than buying our best players in the past decade.

I'm not going to nitpick here, but United have, historically, a good connection with Real. I swear I just wrote this a few posts up in this thread but they did offer us Di Stefano on a loan + The European Cup after the Munich Disaster. I have always had a soft spot for Real after reading up on that - nothing wrong in that.

Didn't Ronaldo recently say that he doesn't want to return to United and would love to play against them, not for them? Why are we still licking this guy's bumhole? He's an amazing player, but I don't really care if he's one of the ones who scores or not. Hell I don't even care who wins really, not any more of a fan of Madrid than I am Liverpool. Just hope it will be an entertaining match to watch as a neutral.

That was in the 50's, the Real Madrid of the Florentino-era is a mafia from the spanish construction sector that will openly through their media disrupt any other club in order to get the player they want, we have been trhough that with them three times now. Last time Ferguson described them as a Mafia and a club Franquista and Marca put Fergie as an old man with dementia after that, can't see any good connection between the clubs.

I think Ferguson's problem was with Ramon Calderon who was president in 2008? We have only sold Ronaldo against our will as far as I know.

Oh yeah. Cool. Quite enjoyed rolling back the years and rooting for him a fortnight ok. Here we go again. Lovely.

You really don't like it when people are fans of Ronaldo, do you?

I agree with the sentiment that a player should never transcend the club, but that also applies to players currently playing for the club. Ronaldo is part of the United history, just as Cantona was. Unlike Cantona, Ronaldo left before he reached his prime, but the overall impact was arguably comparable. The fact that Ronaldo plays for RM, which was his boyhood dreams, yet still speaks warmly of Manchester United probably means that many fans still think of him as a little bit red, still. Nothing wrong with that, imo. Also, the fact that he is ridiculously good also helps.

Liverpool aren't worth the celebration nor is the moment. Hope he sticks it to them with some crazy celebration.

True

The last one was great though, considering they were booing him.. then he just made 'em calm down ;)

It's natural to have a soft spot for certain players. I certainly had one for Ruud when he left for Real Madrid. Up to that point, I was more in the Barca camp for El Clasicos etc (loved Ronaldinho) but when Ruud joined I started rooting for Real. Same with Ronaldo now.

Even yesterday, watching Sunderland vs Palace, I had more of a inclination for Sunderland to win just because they had Brown and Sheasy. There's nothing wrong with that. (And Palace had Fraizer Campbell, but he didn't have much of an impact here).

The franquista term could fit into any era, Calderon was a corrupt idiot who was easily proven as one, Florentino is a mafioso of another level. I just can't see any relation between that mob and our club, well, maybe the fact that Manchester United is also owned by a mob now.

He's been and gone.
He did well here, we had good times. We probably should have had more good times, but didn't.

Time to move on and focus on a new chapter at United, in my opinion. Barely any of that Champions League winning side are here, and neither is the manager or his staff. Spend that £60 million+ and wages on a couple of others.

I understand he's an incredible player, and others will disagree with me, but that's how I see it.

I agree, but only because of his age and what it would cost to bring him back. Two years ago: I'd pay a 100m.

When I think about Calderon, I automatically remember the Nicolas Cage story.

:D

He's a goal off equaling the all time UCL record (Raul's), unlucky for Liverpool, we know how driven Ronaldo is, he'll be going all out to score.

I'm so hoping Ronaldo scores a hattrick tonight.....for us....in memory of his wonderful time here and to put a smile on Fergie's face...since football wise I don't think he's had much of those...

I bet he has his eyes really set on that record tonight seeing that team.

I missed the first leg so this will be the first time I will be properly cheering Ronaldo on since he left, looking forward to a hat-trick from the man. Go and embarrass the scouse

I like watching football, even if United aren't playing. In fact sometimes it's easier watching football when I don't care about the result, like when United aren't playing. I like watching Ronaldo, always have, even when people wanted him shipped out for having no end product, for being a diver, for being a winker. It's a shame he doesn't play for us, but players come and go, and he's just another one.

As for it being something uniquely modern. It really isn't. I remember English kids wearing Brazilian shirts with Pele, or Ronaldo, or Romario on the back. After Best left us, a lot of people went to matches just because he was playing. We hear stories of great players of the past like Dixie Dean or Tom Finney because they stood out, even to people who weren't fans of their clubs. And that's from before Youtube and loads of live televised football - they became famous on Pathe news.

For me, a match is always more interesting if there's some kind of United link, one of our old players, someone I want us to buy. So yeah, of course I'll watch Ronaldo as well as Real Madrid V Liverpool tonight.

 like, wtf??

He can be so greedy at times  It was obvious his team mates were just passing to him at times just so he can try and score and break the record.

I can see Messi bagging a brace tomorrow.

Oh dear God.

The way Barcelona are playing? He'll be lucky to grab one, that selfish git Neymar is more likely to score a brace
