Guess who's back?
well, given the fact that this is the "Ronaldo" thread, what do you expect people critizise about? guns control?I would like to agree with the poor passing bit but the selective criticism is quite dramatic here.

I thought he was shit yesterday.
Still better than Barca's best player though...
Indeed I'm not. Maybe I phrased that a bit too dramatically and of coure I've dressed it up a bit here because there is no way to gauge something as comprehensive as passing ability based on a single game. Then again, it's not as if this was the one game where I suddenly formed my opinion that this part of his game isn't among the top tier -- it was, I thought, an apt example of that.
I agree that vision is intangible and extremely problematic if not impossible to try to quantify (assists and key passes are indicators, but far too broad; throughballs are probably the best quantified representation of "vision" but still quite vague), but then I wasn't basing my opinion on the 60% pass completion stat, rather I looked it up to illustrate my point using something beside just my own observations.
Re: the bolded bit, I don't think that's the point of contention here? In another post of mine on this page I wrote that he's "a somewhat underrated and prolific chance creator, just not at the very top in his own era, let alone in an all-time context."
There is clearly a semantic issue. "Very good" doesn't equate to top tier in my book. Maybe you should make clear where you would rank him based on passing ability and vision?

well mate, this is a football forum full of football fansPerfectly fine with any criticism if discussion has only been restricted to one player only in this thread. Unfortunately it's not the case here.
you're still not over this, eh?sigh i will hate myself later for this- benzema
you're still not over this, eh?
well mate, this is a football forum full of football fans
we have to argue
we have to love
and we have to hate
and you are lucky to love ronaldo and you get to defend him, think of the poor people that love gerrard ...
they deserve our pitty
I miss him too, he was one of my favourite players .pipa
you are a good manI miss him too, he was one of my favourite players .
Him and Messi were utter shit today. Poor decision making from both.
its undisputable that messi played really bad yesterdayBut one of them was playing for a team that was comfortably ahead, and even then he still was trying to extend the lead. The other was playing short, meaningless 10 yard passes that accomplished nothing when his team was losing. (I'll run over to the Messi thread to see if the consensus opinion there is that this game means that that means he has no passing ability.)
Presumably Ronaldo was doing his part in a winning team effort. Presumably Messi wasn't doing enough as part of a losing team.
its undisputable that messi played really bad yesterday
so is that ronaldo was annonimous too and that he was saved by his team mates
mate, if you think that ronaldo played well yesterday, then your opinion on him is that he is a very average playerOr maybe it's undisputable that Messi's teammates failed to bail him out this time. And that Ronaldo did his part in his team winning easily against a team of allegedly all time great player led by the supposed Greatest Player Ever.
Depends on how you see it.

Did his part? With a team effort like RM performed yesterday, I'd even claim that they would have won without Ronaldo. But one of them was playing for a team that was comfortably ahead, and even then he still was trying to extend the lead. it cant be that hardSaved? What's this suppose to mean? Was pretty average performance but he still scored and did his part on the third goal. I don´t get this concept. Is Ronaldo saving the teammates in the other games or is it part of a team effort? Wasn´t his best performance but i think people are being too harsh.

it cant be that hard
saved: if his teamates hasnt done everything they did to win the game everyone would be talking about his bad game
if you need further explanation dont hesitate to ask
as i said to steffyr2 Ronaldo is a great player and yesteday he played badI disagree with that concept (if things were that linear Ronaldo would be saving his teammates 90% of the time) but i understand your point. I don´t need explanation thank you anways. I just see things differently. Why is it always so polemic with Ronaldo? Anyways off to the stadium to watch Sporting. Good luck to United in the rest of the game.
as i said to steffyr2 Ronaldo is a great player and yesteday he played bad
if you think that he played well, then you dont think ronaldo is as good as i think he is
i dont hate ronaldo, i rate him as one of the best players, but yesterday in an 11 players team, he wasnt even in the best 7
When he played like he did, yes, but that's all hypothetical and looking in hindsight. The point is, neither of them were good yesterday, it's baffling to say that Ronaldo did his part when he is regarded as the world's best player. He was below average compared to the standard, he's set for himself.Do you think that Barcelona would do better without Messi?
i said he was "saved" by his team mates because if they hadnt win, everyone would be talking how bad ronaldo playedI didn´t say he played well. I criticize him in the La Liga thread during the match. I just disagree with your assessment that he was saved by his teammates. What i said was that it was an average Ronaldo, that still did his part on Real´s win without being his usual exuberant self. It´s hard to mantain his level all the time. Messi struggled even more. They are just human after all. I understood what you said and disagreed that´s it. And i didn´t imply that you hate him at all. I don´t think that you are on the ShedEnd, Snake whatever his name group.
His team won easily, which is the point right? Weird that Ronaldo was passing so much rather than shooting himself but since the team won, all's well than ends well. When he played like he did, yes, but that's all hypothetical and looking in hindsight. i said he was "saved" by his team mates because if they hadnt win, everyone would be talking how bad ronaldo played
and that happens because ronaldo is a great player so everyone expects him to save his team mates and when he doesnt he gets critizised
as messi is being critizised now
they are two great players and everyone expects them to play as such and when they don't, they get critizised
because yesterday Ronaldo and Messi had a bad game, but ronaldo's team won, everyone is focusing ond messis bad game but the truth is that neither of them had a good game
so, ronaldo was "saved" by his team mates, while messi, who's team mates didnt play well -specially iniesta, xavi, pique and mathieu- wasnt
Or maybe it's undisputable that Messi's teammates failed to bail him out this time. And that Ronaldo did his part in his team winning easily against a team of allegedly all time great player led by the supposed Greatest Player Ever.
Depends on how you see it.
That's crazy. The man has just some ridiculous stats. On the other hand, 11 game scoring run... don't see it ending anytime soon either.
What this sensible young man said.Hyperbole is strong in these threads as usual.
Ronaldo was fairly poor yesterday but was not anonymous or disastrous for his team. Given his standards, it was a 5/10 performance. He did convert a critical penalty and bailed out Isco's bad pass for Real's third goal. Other than that, he messed up at least couple of moves by real with poor decision making or passes.
That's pretty much the summary of his performance yesterday. Nothing worth enough to debate over multiple pages.
That's crazy. The man has just some ridiculous stats.
Surely he's slowly creeping into your top25 now?
Footballers have museums!?
I had the chance to walk around his museum in Funchal, Madeira this afternoon. Pretty damn impressive the amount of things he's won during his career up to this stage - not just the club trophies (there were replicas for all of them on display) but the sheer amount of MOTM trophies, youth awards, goal-scoring accolades, and a seemingly endless collection of other awards, as well as presents like watches and things from Arab sheikhs, it's awe-inspiring.
I was expecting it to be mostly Portugal and Madrid stuff, with the United years perhaps being more of a footnote, but I was very wrong there - if anything there might have been more from his years at United than other times. There are cases full of fan letters and presents sent from around the world, and it seemed most of those images featured him in United gear (perhaps not that surprising given our popularity in Asia, but still impressive given how long ago he left us).
There's a big display with his match-balls from when he has scored hat-tricks or better (it took me a while to find the Newcastle ball since there are so many for Madrid and Portugal), his shirts from the 2008 and 2014 finals are framed (and signed by the teams), his medals are there as well (I found it odd that the Moscow winners medal seemed quite a bit smaller than the 2014 winners medal), and the two Ballon d'Ors (or replicas of them) are on display as well.
As someone who stopped worshipping him since he left us, it brought back some amazing memories walking around that place. Given the time he has left in his career, they'll need to extend the museum before too long.
I was also there about a year ago. The museum is very United oriented because british people are probably the biggest percentage of tourists in the Madeira island.
Needed more Sporting but unfortunately he spent few time here (Curse upon the person who remembered to invite United to our stadium inauguration and O' Shea as well for the crappy performance )
I can't wait to visit Obertan's
It'll look like a gym.
