Look at it from Mendes eyes. In 5 years time, Ronaldos value to Mendes will be low. Whereas he can rake it in from Mourinho and United for almost the rest of his life.

Ronaldo gifted him an island. He's probably made more off Ron than he'll ever make off Mou given the wages on offer and the constant contract renewals. Also, Mou isn't a fool. He too must be playing similar games when buying. Keep everyone expectant till you seal your deals as per your convenience.

You may well be right, but somehow I'm cynical being in business and dealing with lawyers all the time...
 
I think with the relationship between Ronaldo and SAF. The board will long know if this is actually a ruse. Of which we will gladly help him get his tax paid and get €100K more per week.

This will not compromise our transfer business. We'd be fully aware of how likely or unlikely this deal actually is. The papers and media will not have any genuine information on this. Reals board might be in the dark(not that i believe it for a second) we are not.
 
Thankfully we have an intelligent manager in charge again. Jose won't want this parade to drag on all summer - I can't see us seriously bidding for him.

I am more excited about Morata, a winger and a new deep midfielder. Really can't see us meeting Rea's ridiculous demands.

I love Ronny the player but he's the Mariah Carey of the footballing world. He makes the FIFA kiddies weak at the knees and demands attention all of the time. But Jose is building a team.

That team would be infinitely stronger with Ronaldo in it. Especially when you consider that Perisic is almost certainly the alternative for the left wing.

buying ronaldo and building a team is not mutually exclusive
 
Simple.... do not sign any players from Real Madrid.... signing their players is like funding them to get the best players in the world moreover they are always asking for over the odds... forget their players.... I'd rather we spend an exorbitant amount on players from other clubs rather than funding Real Madrid

  • Everything regarding Cristiano's recent news about leaving I heard over the news.

  • Cristiano has a contract and he is a Real Madrid player.

  • I still did not speak with Cristiano. Everything I heard, I heard it from the news.

  • (referring to Cristiano's situation) Life gives you unexpected situations but you have to deal with it and find a solution.

  • All of this is very strange but Cristiano is a good guy and I'm going to talk to him and find out what's happening.

  • Part of the basic taxes is that you comply with them and I'm sure Cristiano has always wanted to do this.

I must say he played it beautifully, what stands out to me is that The above distances Real Madrid completely from all allegations of having made Ronaldo use some club-recommended accounting agency or having anything to do with paying some part of CRonaldo's taxes i.e. an aspect currently under investigation. Also, a very savvy point is the part where he says even if Real would offer to pay this fine Cristiano wouldn't because he isn't that kind of guy. Now that is how you deal with this situation, the Messi tax issue annoyed me with regards to my clubs stance of having this stupid let's all support Leo, he committed tax fraud and the club should always distance themselves from such issues. Another excellent point made by Perez is that he kept mentioning how Ronaldo or anyone from his camp hasn't contacted him privately. Again by just simply stating the facts he has made Ronaldo actions look disrespectful, sure he may not want to voice his stance to the media (even though that would be the best option) but to not have done so privately to his Perez?

With these above points, along with the rest of his public address, he has basically put the ball firmly in the court of Ronaldo's camp. Over to you Mendes, try weaseling your way out of this loool. Ultimately I believe he won't leave, nobody cares more about Ronaldo's legacy than Ronaldo himself. Real Madrid is the best club for him to remain competitive at the highest level and offer him the best deal in sporting and financial matters together. This will all blow over but for sure his relationship with the fans won't be the same, I thought he had finally matured and with the recent success has pretty much shut up all the whistlers in Madrid but he has once again shown himself to be the immature egoist he has always been and pretty much confirmed that it is still all about him and not what's best for the club he supposedly dreamt about playing for and loves.

It would be really interesting if someone could find something about RM pre and post Ronaldo. It would be interesting to see how their various revenue streams were affected by his arrival.

I was also thinking it would be an interesting dynamic given he is a Nike athlete and we are very much Adidas these days - I saw an article about Pogba generating £190m in shirt sales (adidas take most of this) in three weeks predominantly because he is with Adidas and they geared all promotions around him. Obviously Adidas won't be plastering Ronaldo's face over their ads (unless they try and sign him)

If true I'm happy Cristiano is being called out on it.
It doesn't seem like anyone is biting. Not exactly the stampede Ronaldo would have expected.
 
I think Ronaldo will talk to Perez, Perez'll talk to the politicans, who will fix everything and RM will pay whatever tax bill is left. Ronaldo stops pouting and stays.

Yes why wouldn't we spend £130m+ on transfer fee and £150m+ on wages to sign a 32 year old who has been showings signs of decline and has needed more rest than before this last season. What could possibly go wrong?

You do realise whether this is all a smokescreen or not, Real can't sell Morata now. Hell, he may be wondering himself if all this is true he may be better off staying.

I don't think we will get Ronaldo, although we should if we could. My primary concern in all this is José not getting his men in for preseason. If he doesn't it will affect our prep, but also strain Mourinho's relationship with management.

Jose wants to win, he won't care about the price as long as it doesn't affect other transfer business. I find it impossible to believe Jose isn't interested in bringing a 40+ goal a season striker to the club. The best player in the world, too. Ronaldo can win us the league and have us seriously competing in the CL. If there's any real possibility of bringing Ronaldo back we'll be all over it.

I was actually comparing Moyes' wild goose chase to Jose being efficient when it comes to knowing what he does and doesn't want.

And that's the key point. He won't have a problem in bringing Ronaldo unless it affects his whole plan for the summer, which seems so. If you ask me, I'll be happy if we brought Ronaldo alone this summer without any other additions, but for Jose, I don't think he'll share my opinion.
 
Only one of our transfer targets will be affected by this whole saga and this is Morata. Other than that I don't think we would be dealing with Madrid with an intent to buy. So there's no reason why won't be pursuing other targets in the meantime. Jose is the skeptical type, and Woodward has been burned before so no doubt both will be keeping an eye on developing events, but will approach with caution when the right signs are there. Otherwise they should go about their business as usual.

Actually in fact, this happening is good for Jose and Woodward because it gives them even more cover to get the deals done behind the scenes, whilst the rest of the media is fawning over Ronaldo.

Why so uptight about the cost of the transfer? We won't go for him if it means we cannot afford to strengthen other areas of the team. Is he one of the top 2 players in the world at this time? Can he contribute at a very high level for the next couple of years at least? Chill out man. It probably won't happen anyway, but if it does we will have signed a player that any team in the world would want.

Marca now claim Ronaldo prefers a move to PSG. The timing of this shouldn't be a shock after reports of United being wary and Jose flat out not wanting him started to gain traction yesterday.
I hope Madrid call him out on his bullshit. Theres no way he joins a second tier side that nobody watches who are nowhere in the CL while leaving La Liga to Messi.

Depends if you have to spend money that would go towards improving the team into signing Ronaldo alone.

If you can build a team with the class Real have, then Ronaldo is the cherry on top, you can expend as much as you want, but if you're going to end up with United's current midfield + Ronaldo and Morata you're paying top dollar for end product with no one at the engine deck
