People on here still doubting the GOAT CL player.

Watch El Kommander score a hattrick in the return leg

Huh?

I love how C. Ronaldo is the player who is old & past it.

Look a tad closer & you see players like mandzukic, chiellini, bonucci, khedira, matuidi whilst having a GK like schezeney

Ronaldo was easily one of the better players yesterday especially in comparison to the likes of dybala who is one of the most overrated players in the world; arguably riding on Messi being Argentinian.

Ahh Well facts & stats don't get your far - it's just how a player makes you feel :wenger:

Ronaldo wins: "OH HE JUST JOINED A STACKED TEAM!!!!! Doesn't mean anything!!!!"

Ronaldo loses: "HAHHAH He's soooo past it! Awful Ronaldo, worst player!"

Well they are not overrated. I hate them but Juve is a great team. That being said they are short of a Buffon, Pirlo and Pogba and it was obvious yesterday. Sort of a sad reallity check for us and them in this knockout stage this season. Shows how much La Liga is stronger than other leagues when Atletico make a statement against the most successful domestic italian team. Ronaldo is a great pro but he surley must know that his star is fading by now.

Juve are a brilliant team. Some strange comments here regarding them.

The silly hyperbole works the other way round too.

Ronaldo's TEAM wins : He's simply the best. Always delivers when it matters. Single-handedly winning ties.

Ronaldo's TEAM loses: His team is so average. There's nothing he can do. It's a team sport.

I mean if you really think Ronaldo wins and loses rather than his team you should probably follow the above logic (which you do only when they win).

Back in reality, it's always been a team sport and just like this can't be pinned purely on him, those CL wins were also great team efforts. It's the case with all success. People just love over emphasing the hero /loser tale.

Hope Juve turn it around, Atletico bore me to tears, which is a shame with the players they have, but its ugly stuff most the time.

Juventus are also boring to watch.

Ronaldo has shown no signs of fading. He has scored 27 goals and assisted 10 in 42 games, he has immediately adjusted to a new league.

Juve Atletico is the embodiment of turd sandwich vs giant douche.

Not only in terms of being boring, but also in terms of being shite clubs.

Considering the circumstances, I thought he played a good game. I am shocked Allegri who is lauded for his tactics, decidied to play BOTH Cristiano Ronaldo and Dybala as the 'front pair'. Ateltico Madrid defend narrow, Cristiano Ronaldo is not a centre forward as his hold up play is not good enough and his ability to turn on defenders when backing up against them is also not good enough. He needs to be able to run off somebody or at least have the space to get behind ad latch onto a throughball.

Atletico were to deep and Juventus ball circulation was terrible, particularly in their central axis. Cristinao Ronaldo had to go wide a lot of the time to get the ball and he tried to run at them directly but his dribbling especially with little space and from a strating position is poor as well. Allegri did not help the players at at all. I would have gone with Mandzukic through the middle and played Cristiano Ronaldo off him. Mandzukic can at least pin the centre backs and give Ronaldo the opportunity to utilise his main strengths. When Juvenus treid crossing, Cristiano was surrounded by multiple defenders.

Tactically Allegri got it wrong but I have to question Juventus personnel.

His treatment by the Atletico players was terrible. I don't think he gets enough credit for his durability. It's incredible he can withsatnd all that, let alone at 34.

Ronaldo's first year at Juve it's no better than Higuain's. 42 games and 27 goals in Calcio+Coppa, he had to adapt himself to a new country, league, etc. He added nothing to the team if they don't win the CL, in fact they are out of the Coppa.

He looked very sharp and nimble, much better on the ball than any of the previous Real Madrid '15-'18 iterations yet still is criticized. On the other hand when he was doing nothing of note from the second leg of 1/4 onward last season it was all great due to the team scraping through by the skin of their teeth and winning mainly due to the series of opposition goalkeeper errors that would look woeful in an average third division, let alone in the CL.

At this point is it fair to say there's not much in it between his international side and club side? Portugal have a lot of bright players coming through. They have a solid core of central midfielders in W.Carvalho, Bernardo Silva, Fernandes, Danilo, Ruben Neves, etc. I'd certainly take that central midfield over Juve's.

The contest of Messi and Ronaldo supporters to talk down either Barca or Juventus is a spectacle in itself.

With the Dybala thread in mind, did Juve sell the wrong player? At the time of Cristiano's signing and under the impression of his last Madrid season, I thought it would be clear as day that he'd be playing as the central striker and thus Higuain would become redundant. But the way he is playing now (being much more involved and stuff) it looks more like he occupies Dybala's role who also likes to play in a second striker fashion and has lost much of his goal threat this season. So, would the pairing Ronaldo/Higuain had possibly fit better than Ronaldo/Dybala?

Thought occured to me today....does Ronaldo not want to end his career at Sporting clube de Portugal?

Given all the abuse our resident Sporting fans give their club in the various threads (I imagine things are brewing up now given they're 0-0 at half time v Maritimo) surely Ronaldo has some personal responsibility to come back eventually and help the club who gave him his break in the game?

Play 2 years at Juve, get another Seria A and then come home to a fractured club and immediately unite the fanbase. If he can lead them back into CL or maybe even win the title then to me that's perfect way to end things.

Guy has made practically billions from football so doubt money would be an issue.

I'm sure he would love to come back to Sporting at some point to finish his career but going to the Portuguese league now means a step down in his career. He still see himself as a top level player so he wants to carry on playing at the top level for as long as possible. Going to the Portuguese league basically means goodbye to all those fanciful awards this vain narcissist ego-maniac desperately craves for.

I’m confident he’ll play for us one day, he’s been coming to watch us play often lately after years of not really caring. Nani and Coentrão coming over probably took a part in that though.

Will never happen in the next 4 seasons and he’d need to keep a reasonable level for a while but coming back would be the perfect way to end his career. Only way this shit club changes mentality too.

We’ll have gone 20 years without winning the title after his 4 year contract at Juve ends.

These statements are logically true and consistent. If the team is bad, when it loses it loses because ... the team is bad. When the team wins, it wins because the superstar player overachieves (despite the team being bad). No contradiction here.

(I am not saying anything about Juve or Ronaldo, I am just talking about the Truth assessment of the above statements.)

You speak of logic and consistency yet decided to preface your statements by adding that the team is poor. This wasn't relevant to the post you quoted or this thread. Maybe you want to direct this particular logic to a thread for a great player in a poor team?

Didn't mean now, more when he's 36-37.

I'd rather see him do that anyway than easy option of MLS or Chinese league.

Welcome to Italy. It’s going to be interesting watching them play on the front foot vs Atlético at least. Hopefully they show they can actually do it and Allegri changes approach.

You don't need to go to Italy for that, he had the same problem in a clasico being coached by Mourinho.

That was against the best team ever though, not against Napoli, Sampdoria and Atalanta.

Allegri is a good manager, I doubt there’s any manager out there that would do better results wise but it’s painful how negative he is as a manager. Especially when they’re so comfortably ahead.

The commentator just said Ronaldo's former national team colleague, has he retired from international football?
