Do most Ronaldo fans seriously think this? Or you just pretend to believe this?

Messi has played enough for us to know what hes capable of. Hundreds of thousands of minutes of football played, at this time we all know what he can do with a football. To assume he would be a different player (a worse one) in different country or system just because this belief benefits CR7 its ridiculous.

I frankly don't see how Messi wouldn't shine playing for other great teams. It's a weird accusation. We all critize mercanaries these days and romantize one club legends. But Messi is being slated for spending so far his entire career at Barcalona dominating the league and have won 4 Cl trophies so far. Yes the first one counts even if he wasn't a key player. It's like saying John O shea doesn't have a lot of PL medals and CL medal because he wasn't the key player in that succes.

Messi could probably be paid the double of what he earns for City Or PSG

Well if you go off of the basis of comparing his Argentina performances to his Barca ones then the assumption that the same would happen in a different team and system is very very plausible. Once again not to say he would be shit because he would still be world class but he would probably mimic his Argentina form.

Is Messi for Argentina the same level as Messi for Barca?

He's the same exact player, the same left foot, the same brain. What you mean to say is that Argentina is not the same level as Barcelona, and that is obvious.

Messi was a key player on that first CL win, he played KO stages against Chelsea and Mourinho himself wrote up a tactical analysis of Barcelona, and he stated that Messi was very dangerous and even harder to stop than Ronaldinho. There was a whole thread about that analysis on this same forum.

Anyway, yeah its basically nonsense. CR7 goes to Juventus and its seen as an argument on his favour, but id argue that he went from a hard challenge (trying to beat Barcelona to the league) to a super easy one (winning the league with Juventus). He took the easy way out.

And now, imagine Messi on that Guardiola's Bayern. Just imagine the destruction he would have done there. He wouldnt have been playing with Romero, Otamendi and Acuña there thats for sure.

He played LW for Juventus last season (whilst drifting in). His goal scoring tally was impressive.

So to compare his goal-scoring record with others is disingenuous.

Hasn't being a wing forward generally been his role for a lot of his career?

I don't really think it is. Argentina are completely shit without him. They wouldn't even have qualified for the last WC, if he didn't return and bailed them out. He's not been the goat player for Argentina, but he's still their all time top scorer despite often playing from deep and if higauin hadn't fluffed his one on one, he'd probably have a WC.

Luckily Eder scored a worldie from nowhere and as nobody. Without that moment, no euro for ronaldo. I don't think these fine margins defines a players career.

I respect your opinion, but IMO i think its utterly ridiculous.

What top club he could join that would have the same horrible defense, midfield and coaching than that Argentina? Any club that could afford Messi will have the elite on every line.

Imagine if he had joined Bayern after his 2011 CL win? Or current Liverpool? City? Why on earth would he perform at his Argentina level (whatever that is) on those elite clubs and not at his Barcelona level?

And dont talk about the system, because the last 2 years Barcelona has going trough the worst coaching ive seen on my entire life, the worst football theyve played in decades and still Messi managed to play arguably two of his best three individual seasons.

Not the same level of comfort though, by far, and for a player with his personality, it clearly affected his output with the NT, massively.

He’s the same player but his level and impact on the game drops uniform to the drop in quality of his environment.

What an absurd comparison. International teams meet a couple times a year vs club teams which train together day in day out. Argentina in particular have had a constantly revolving door or managers, each with his own tactics and favorites. There has been zero continuity in tactics or chemistry allowed to develop between a set of players. Among all their stars, have any come close to replicating their club form between Kun, Higuain, Adm? Through it all messi has been far and away the best in every tournament.

Even within barca it's not like he's been playing with the stars from the halcyon days of Pep recenty. Xavi, Iniesta, and Alves have been out've the picture for years now. The supporting cast his totally different(and worse), but he's still putting in insane performances regularly and practically carried Barca to the last two leagues. What makes you think things would be different at any other big club?

As a sidenote, it's very telling that the teams which do well at international have stuck w the same setup for several tournament cycles(Germany w Low, France w Deschamps, Uruguay w Tabarez), or have a spine which plays together at club level.

Quagliarella won 0 trophy's because he plays for sampdoria. Considering that everyone is saying that Ronaldo would still outscoring everyone else if he played for stockport county, you'd imagine he could outscore a 36 year old Quargliarella. He doesnt even have the excuse of being older or playing in a lesser team.

Anyway Ronaldo is 35, he's had a fantastic career now matter how much he declines because of his age.

You need to look at the context, Ronaldo has been resting some Serie A games during 2nd half of season, partly because his focus is more on CL, and partly because Juventus has already secure the league title earlier. In all competition Ronaldo still outscore everyone in same period though.

Strange that he's injured for Juve, fine for Portugal then injured for Juve again. Problems with Sarri? I think he'll be off in the summer.

I'm seriously going to stop watching Juventus.

Not a single chance created in 90 minutes. Not one team chance. It was a Ronaldo run, a Bern individual run, and a Dybala set piece the closest they got to scoring.

He's being wasted away slowly there, and as a huge fan of this guy, knowing the finish line is coming close quickly for him, I'm just despairing too much with this. He's a striker, he does need service, there was a time in which he served others, and another time in which he served and got served, now he's there to finish chances but gets served a big ball of nothingness all season long.

I just hate this. I've never seen so little from such a top club. I can think of 15 20 clubs where I'd rather Ronaldo be right now, regardless of whether he'd win any trophy on them.

Ronaldo's defensive performance is the highlight of his match today. It's just so bad overall from Juve Ronaldo is defending and pressing agressively on Juve's 1st quarter of the field because that's basically where he can help most.

I don't really know what to say.

So he's injured/not Injured/team not creating enough chances/poor coach/on defensive duty/will play till his 40s/...
Which was it today? New head band causing issues? I meant hairband :wenger:

How do you reckon he would do in our current UTD side without Pogba? Struggle due lack of creativity?

Honestly Ronaldo would be an upgrade for United and United would be an upgrade for him as it stands.

1st game I ever watched from United was that 1999 final. I've seen a lot through the years, I think United has a long way to go in a lot of aspects, but right now he'd obviously be a great choice as a striker for the team, and the team even though has lots to improve in terms of attacking play would provide enough service for him to make a difference.

Juve creates absolutely zero for 90 minutes regularly. Anything would be better at this moment.

Edit: all IMO of course

Who's obssessed? I mean i'd understand if you were 15 and fanboying like a crazy chick. But this is taking it to another level

Damn you didn't need to do him like that

Get ready for his first hat-trick of the season in the matinee against dreadful & playful sassuolo on Sunday

Ronaldo & Juve don't suit each other. They're a pragmatic and methodical team who often prefer to score a solitary goal and defend for a clean sheet for the remainder of the game. 1-0 is is good enough for them. In contrast, Ronaldo has such an insatiable appetite and hunger for scoring that the teams he has played for in the past would still be piling men forward in 90th minute even when 5-1 up just to get him more goals. I don't know if this Juve team is even capable of getting 3 or 4 in most games.

Really can't see him getting much above 20 or so goals with Juve's current philosophy, set-up and personnel.

It's sarri. The guy is a very average manager, managing Ronaldo at his oldest in one of the most defensive leagues possible. If sarri goes, Ronaldo will be back up and running.

If Mandzukic is living at Juventus for so long then I'm sure Ronaldo can aswell.

He should have stayed at Madrid rather than chasing the cash then. Absolutely amazing player and to be considered in the same stratosphere as Messi should be blessing enough but he wanted parity with Messi on wages too and so he ends up at Juve.

Ronaldo ain’t done and can see him going on till he is 40 and fair play to him, such an outstanding player.

It was the same under allegri too though. Juve just don’t have the players to play that free-flowing, direct and high tempo football that suits Ronaldo so well and what was the hallmark of those Madrid sides with Ozil, Di Maria, Modric, Marcelo, Bale, Carvajal, Isco, etc

He must dearly miss playing with those guys.

The only guy Juve have of that ilk is Douglas Costa but he’s always on the treatment table.

yet Dybala, Higuain, Costa (when fit), Cuadrado, and Pjanic have all done better under Sarri.

You’re obsessed in a negative sense, that is a completely different beast.
