with SAF still managing the Club, this could never happen
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he could win a Champions League with City and be the player to win one with both clubs, reuniting the City of Manchester…
How does those two even connect? VDB was signed two fecking seasons ago. Anything to bash our own players. Why even bring VDB in a Ronaldo thread? Not like they even play the same position. Some fans pshh.Think about this. We could have signed him if we didn't sign Donny Van De Fecking Beek.
You’re kinda right but you really shouldn’t hold footballers to that high of a pedestal. They only look at it as a job and they will move to rivals if the money and the chance of winning trophies is there. And especially now with Messi moving to PSG he cares more about his legacy than his standing with United fans. The people who don’t care are clearly the ones who never really loved Ronaldo that much. That’s fine, in fact that’s probably the adult way to behave. That doesn’t change the fact that for many fans, myself included. He’s the best player I’ve seen in the league at the club, he symbolises a period of domination from a Utd side I haven’t seen after and growing up as a young Utd fan I absolutely idolised him. Even as I’ve got older the respect I have for him as a character and person is monumental. Part of that respect is that fact I thought he had a genuine love and connection to Utd and the fans but clearly that was all one sided and he couldn’t give a toss. I get why to some that wouldn’t matter, but for me it would be a proper heartbreak. I’d happily burn effigies of the cnut round the city if he goes to those oil funded cheats.
? That's a random conclusion jump, fair play.
Wild to think about City's growth in the last 12 years. They'll easily be the biggest club in the country by the end of the decade - an entire generation will have watched them win for almost 20 years by then, while also playing the most attractive football in the country by miles.
They've done well
Like everything in life money wins. What a depressive reality…
I agree. For a player so obsessed with his image and legacy, pissing off the biggest fan base in world football just feels like a massive error. I just think even if he wins a champions league at City his overall legacy will be diminished. He would still fare worse in the votes, the Messi vs Ronaldo polls etc. Just doesn’t make any sense unless it’s purely for money. What I don’t get is that this move is a bit questionable for him in terms of maintaining/increasing his own following. So far every club that he had played for only increases it, but by signing with a United rival he surely would lose a lot of sympathizers amongst United fans?
Although he obviously had the matter thoroughly research by his people, so maybe I’m overlooking something important.
It would have been ridiculous for them to fail, it's not impressive when you think what they've put into it. They had to succeed.
Thanks for sharing. What the actual feck. Not happy. At all.
Well yeh that’s because ones backed by a country and blown away the other. It’s not so much style it’s more quantity of money. At least they've done it in style. Chelsea had money but served up crap for the most part.
A fee City reportedly don't want to offer even though it's supposedly just 30m
Well, it's a good lesson then. I mean, having 'monumental respect' for a footballer 'as a character and person' is a bit silly, most of the time: we just don't know them outside of a few soundbites in the press and the way they choose to present themselves in public. The people who don’t care are clearly the ones who never really loved Ronaldo that much. I would hope that Utd fans give him absolute hell! Might go down as the biggest snake in our history for me!Admittedly I think we should be trying to acquire him if he is indeed available and in an ideal world, as much as I like Cavani, a swap involving both players would be a great solution. However, I think he is probably pushing specifically for them lot given what Messi has done in this transfer window. If he does indeed go there, then he will no longer be looked at favourably at this club, especially by the fans and rightfully so. The abuse he would and should get would be substantial, the move would highlight exactly what type of person he is.
Although he obviously had the matter thoroughly research by his people, so maybe I’m overlooking something important.
If it was Darren Fletcher (good player for us, probably not quite a “legend”) at Juve joining City, do you think anyone would care this much? I mean people would dislike for it but that’s it.
I’m not even defending Ronaldo (I’ll be astounded if he goes through with this) , I’m just debunking the idea that he’s not a legend here.
He came at 18. Any club would be crazy not to give him time and patience with the insane talent he displayed from day 1.Remember his first three seasons here? He was inconsistency personified. I don't think any big club anywhere would've given him the patience and playing time the way SAF did. And as soon as he stepped up and became what he is, he started making noises that he wants to leave for R.Madrid. I enjoyed his time here but he'll never be a special player for me, just another mercenary. I don't really care what he does. He can go to city or liverpool if he wants, he can kiss their badge and it won't matter to me in the slightest.

Yeah, it's obviously Pellistri's fault! You are being too generous, that was one of the stupidest takes in a thread filled with stupid takes.
£30m for a season or two of Ronaldo sounds too good to be true. Still scored 29 in 31 last season. I'm surprised we aren't trying to tempt him when we only have one true centre forward, who doesn't appear to be close to match fitness yet.
He might fare worse in the polls, but if he can add at another PL and CL to his name, I doubt he cares much.
I have no idea why people here are so pissed off against Ronaldo for going to Man City.
The focal point of the problem is not with Ronaldo trying to move himself away from Juventus, and there being only one club which is Man City interested; it is about Man Utd not being interested in the player.
I am sure the man would join Man Utd in a heartbeat if, Man Utd did make an offer for him.
Obviously, Ole feels it not necessary to buy Ronaldo at the moment, which is unfortunate, and Cristiano has found himself only one viable option which is City.
Probably cause we can't.
Football is about emotion. Strip that out and at its core it’s a pretty crappy game with a sack of air being kicked about. The reason I absolutely love it is about that emotion, the love for Utd and the love that is returned by the players. Its not true at all that it’s all the exception, there are hundreds of Utd players who have been and gone without shitting all over the fans and their legacy. People came to this club knowing nothing and then left as fans, see Rio, Evra, Vidic etc. They grew their affection while at the club just as the players grow in the hearts of the fans.Well, it's a good lesson then. I mean, having 'monumental respect' for a footballer 'as a character and person' is a bit silly, most of the time: we just don't know them outside of a few soundbites in the press and the way they choose to present themselves in public.
And, well, it's Ronaldo. Of course we don't know him either but the way he presents himself makes him look like an egotistical poseur. I always found it quite funny how full of himself he seemed, increasingly so as he was getting better as a player. He was always a bit of a cringe monster, really.
As for genuine love and affection for the club: by now you really should know that's the exception, rather than the rule. Football's a job, most footballers treat it as a job and their sole concern is their own career, their own advancement, not some romantic notion of love for their clubs.
