A bit misleading that.

Half of that quote is from 2013, and the other half is from 2015.
They also left out the part he said from the first quote where he said ‘The future? I don’t know - only God know the future' and ‘I can’t say I’m never going back to Manchester United either - but I can say I’m good here in Madrid and I want to be here.’

Basically the two parts that make that first quote less assertive.

Not that it changes much.
The moral of the story is to stop putting any stock in what footballers say. It's just noise, pay them no heed.

He only cares about getting attention. That Messi has gone to PSG knowing that he is in a much more competent team than Juventus is something that it seems that he could not bear and now he is able to go to the direct rival of one of the Clubs that propelled him. Ronaldo for you.

Well yes, needs trophies to compete with Messi, as with Juve there is no hope

Not surprising. Will never forgive him for forcing his way to Madrid. I understand why he did it, but ruins his entire United career for me, so my opinion couldn't already be much lower as a fan before this move anyway.

Spent his whole career trying (and mostly failing) to one up Messi. I'm sure this move was inspired by Messi going to PSG. Ronaldo can't bear Messi having more spotlight than him.

Doubt he has many other genuine options to be fair. Not many clubs can afford his salary and offer him a hit at the Champions league.
Yes, I don't think this part can be overlooked, Juventus need to get rid and he wants to play at a high level. I doubt we've been going all in to try bring him back either so its not like he has snubbed us.

The people who don’t care are clearly the ones who never really loved Ronaldo that much. That’s fine, in fact that’s probably the adult way to behave. That doesn’t change the fact that for many fans, myself included. He’s the best player I’ve seen in the league at the club, he symbolises a period of domination from a Utd side I haven’t seen after and growing up as a young Utd fan I absolutely idolised him. Even as I’ve got older the respect I have for him as a character and person is monumental. Part of that respect is that fact I thought he had a genuine love and connection to Utd and the fans but clearly that was all one sided and he couldn’t give a toss. I get why to some that wouldn’t matter, but for me it would be a proper heartbreak. I’d happily burn effigies of the cnut round the city if he goes to those oil funded cheats.

Honestly it will be like that Aguero moment for me, only that it will last for 2,3 years.

Interested to see what all those people who bashed Rooney for flirting with city (but staying) and used this as a reason to have Ronaldo as a legend above Rooney, have to say about this

Damn that will be disappointing

I would have loved to see him back here

That was painful but I always had some comfort cos we had SAF and then signed RvP. Now what position are we in

He's already getting abuse online and there's not really any credible links.

If this actually happens he'll get all manner of worse abuse.

His PR team will put the focus on the abuse and he'll get sympathy from a ton of fans.

Also, as you said "Man United didn't want me back" is a pretty easy out for him.
That’s an interesting angle, painting the United fans as the bad guys would gather a lot of support, especially from the English media. He’s not exactly liked by the media here himself, but that’s an angle that would allow the City friendly media to present him in a better light all of a sudden.

Think about this. We could have signed him if we didn't sign Donny Van De Fecking Beek.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he could win a Champions League with City and be the player to win one with both clubs, reuniting the City of Manchester…

Seconded.

Yeah what he did for Utd history can now firmly get in the bin and so could be a few shirts now like we saw with Grealish

Wild to think about City's growth in the last 12 years. They'll easily be the biggest club in the country by the end of the decade - an entire generation will have watched them win for almost 20 years by then, while also playing the most attractive football in the country by miles.

They've done well

What I don’t get is that this move is a bit questionable for him in terms of maintaining/increasing his own following. So far every club that he had played for only increases it, but by signing with a United rival he surely would lose a lot of sympathizers amongst United fans?

Although he obviously had the matter thoroughly research by his people, so maybe I’m overlooking something important.

Glad we're not signing him.
Sad to see him (probably) go to City :nono:, but not worried about them getting him...

Like everything in life money wins. What a depressive reality…

What gave you the impression he had a genuine love and connection to us ? if you don't mind me asking.

In Ronaldo's eyes club football is just a way to stack as many accolades as possible.
Perfectly put in one sentence. Ronaldo cares about himself and his legacy. Nothing wrong with that I say. Other than admiring his career and professionalism I have had little or no warm feelings towards him once he moved to Madrid and I have no expectation that he feels the same towards United or it’s fans. Anyone twisting themselves expecting him to show us loyalty over his career is stupid.

Remember his first three seasons here? He was inconsistency personified. I don't think any big club anywhere would've given him the patience and playing time the way SAF did. And as soon as he stepped up and became what he is, he started making noises that he wants to leave for R.Madrid. I enjoyed his time here but he'll never be a special player for me, just another mercenary. I don't really care what he does. He can go to city or liverpool if he wants, he can kiss their badge and it won't matter to me in the slightest.

They've done well

It would have been ridiculous for them to fail, it's not impressive when you think what they've put into it. They had to succeed.
