Too much pressure also. The media will go all out to sell him like he's our saviour. He already failed at Juve and i don't think he would come here to have such a high risk.

There's a good chance that he's pretty much past it. Still probably the fittest player around but his agility and reactions are declining

Everyones missed chances. It's almost a non brainer. A 1+1 (with potential for more) and a break round winter months and or select times to keep fresh. A chance to play in front of the supporters but even if that didn't happen Sir Alex. I mean it's a non brainer. How many of us would still have Ibra in our team? Ronaldos cut from a similar cloth.

I wouldn't mate. We have long moved on from him

I wouldn't. And I wouldn't have Ronaldo either, at this point. He can continue fighting for a top 4 spot in a one-club league.

How many caftards here are prepared to deny that Ronaldo is — and will be next season —one of the top ten footballers on the planet?

The way to think about this is the following: if we think we’re close enough to City to launch a proper PL title run then we have to at least seriously inquire into Ronaldo’s alleged interest in rejoining United. If we think that no matter what we’re still a rebuilding project in need of our 3-4 players and 2-3 years away (pretty much the consensus here) of course we take a pass on Ronaldo and instead build around the addition of several younger players.

This season he wasn't a top 10 player in the world. I highly doubt he will be one next season.

Have you watched him regulary at Juve? I honestly havn't, but I would thought that his goals would count for something.

The brand value of the club would also go up, as would our ability to attract other top players since many would want to play on the same team as him. Would be a great deal for all parties involved.
I don't know about that. Guy's like 37 years old. I doubt many players care about playing with him (Messi is another story) at this juncture, at most he has another decent season in him. As for brand value, in a COVID infested market, I am not sure that's making too much uplift either. Hell juve themselves seem eager to offload him, clearly they didn't get the ROI they thought they were going to get.

If we go down this road it has to be for sporting reasons. I can see having a shot at PL title with him as our #9. That's the only thing that makes sense to me, and also the only thing that seems to have been left in him, banging goals in the box. Rest of his game has deteriorated a lot IMO.

Ronaldo isn't going to join us to sit on the bench.

If there's absolutely no other potential striker movement this summer and Ronaldo is available then consider it, other than that there's really no valid reason to consider signing him.

He has 97 goals and 22 assists in 128 games for Juve! If that's failing, I'd have him failing for us!

Don't look at his age, he has the physically of a much younger man. I believe if it's a player for the short term we're after, allowing Mason to develop, then surely Ronaldo would do a Job for us, a good job.

I try to watch every Juve game I can. His levels haven't declined. The team isn't performing as they should but Ronnie still looks the best player on the pitch!

His drive and winning mentally would match that of Bruno, just think about the positive effect that would have on the team, a serial winners mentally!

I'd 100% take him on a two year deal.

He’s going to throw childish tantrums when he doesn’t see the ball enough in our team. Besides I don’t think the Juve players really enjoy playing with him especially this season. Sancho would be the better purchase, wages and longevity wise

Is the Italian league still more defensive minded then premiership and Serie A?

Let's look at the other topscorers in Juve this season. Morata has 18, Chiesa 12, and McKennie and Kulusevski have 6 each. How some people expect Ronnie to compete for the CL with this lot, I don't understand. He has 32 goals this season by the way.

He was pretty much bought with CL in mind. You think Juve needed him to win serie a?

I'm sure he was bought with CL in mind yes, but the Juventus squad is so poor I don't understand how anyone could think that would be a likely outcome.

It's not something that I expected, but it was what he was bought for. Apart from the fact they bought him when he was 33, it goes to show that apart from the rare occurences where a mediocre team wins the CL, that you need a quality squad in form and often a great manager. It is a team game after all.

You could could do the same with Barcelona. Messi has 33, Griezzman 18, Dembelé 10. I think apart from having a potent attack, you obviously can go far with a quality defense as well.

As much as I would love for CR7 to come back to United, I don't think that would be a step forward for the club.

I don't see Ole strong enough to bench CR7 even when he's not playing well.
Based on what?

Solskjaer has shown himself to be extremely ruthless at benching players who aren't playing well, regardless of their status.

You'd think Juve would want to keep him then. If wages are the sticking point and he has drop down to around 300k a week to get a move then why not accept that from Juve to stay, redo the contract to help in difficult times. It's a win for both. Only problem is if Juve don't get top four but if they do he surely can stay.

United may well be 4th next year if VVD is back and Chelsea continue with Tuchel, City will surely be first or second again. It's probably going to be a tough 4 way battle. Juve just need to get a better manager in like they've done many times before and challenge with Inter.

I wouldn't mind him coming back and we could take a decent stab at the CL and maybe the league but I'm just saying we've been the best of a poor rest but it could really be difficult next season. If Ronaldo is looking on thinking we're on our way back and disappointed with coming 3rd or 4th with Juve, he might be in for a shock next season at United and probably has a better chance of Juve bouncing back quickly rather than United actually being contenders for something major. The two oil clubs in England make it really difficult most years.

The problem is very, very few people here actually watch Juve games week in ,week out.

All the times I’ve watched him this season, which admittedly have only been in the CL, he has looked his age, which at his age is nothing to be faulted for. However I can’t see how much merit there would be in bringing him back to United.

Well yes, it would obviously be for sporting reasons, but to suggest younger players wouldn’t jump at the chance to play with someone who has largely dominated the game alongside Messi for past 10-15 years is widely off the mark imo. Players like Mbappe and virtually everyone in that age group came up idolizing Ronnie so it would make sense that if they were given the option of joining United, they would do so.

Main problem I have with the likes of Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic is that they're basically hoovers in the final third. Shots must go through them.

Ronaldo takes a staggering 5.3 shots per game. For us it's Bruno on 3.2, and then Rashford, Greenwood, and Martial all on 2. Man City and Liverpool have very similar patterns to ours (KDB/Salah being near identical to Bruno). I much prefer a side with that level of equal distribution to one hoover in the final third. Our last season with MMM all bagging 15+ goals and Bruno not being too far behind was about as ideal as it gets for me, in terms of goal spread. Again, City's season this year is very similar to that.

Now I'm not saying these players flatout just stop others from scoring, but there's only so many shots a team takes per game. And when one player is taking a vast bulk of them...

Aside: I don't think Ronaldo and Bruno would gel super well stylistically at a domestic level over a season.

Ronaldo has hit his Ruud phase. Still racking up the numbers but stylistically holding back the potential of the overall team.
They have some interesting attacking talent at Juve.

Sure but I don't think guys like MBappe are jumping to play with CR7 at this point. No one special joined Juve simply to play with CR. Players will take whack of money over anything else almost every time. My point is CR is almost finished, he is sort of rich man's Cavani at this point.

If we believe he can help us win PL, we should go for it. We should not let any other reason drive this decision.

I'll take a rich man's Cavani any day of the week - especially if it propels us in the league and CL and helps the rest of the squad play even better.

Yes agreed. I think CL is probably a bridge too far for us but I think CR can help get us to PL, which will be no small feat in itself. Would truly put us in post ferguson era.

Juve, like most teams, has suffered from the impact of Covid-19. His wages are astronomical and with their poor showing this season, they are probably better spent on a few players rather than the one. Nedved has already said Ronnie is staying (of course he would) In a perfect world, I can't see why they would let him go BUT the money could be put towards a needed rebuild.

I'd say so. They are still renowned for their tight defences. Just look at our match with Milan. They put out a second sting (almost with the injury they had) and we struggled. On the whole, though, they do play a tighter game than most. I'm sure there will be a Youtube video of Ronaldo's goals for Juve, he can still produce.

i'd take him if we miss out on Haaland and Kane. but he'd be a distant third to those two

I’d love him to come, but if he insists on taking free kicks and penalties over Bruno then he can do one. Penalties maybe fine, but free kicks...

He can still score from free kicks but he has to only take it when they're in a zone it makes sense to make such attempt, not from every angle and every single one of them...

Not sure he failed tbh

I agree, the project has failed but not the player. To lay blame on an aging forward (who has scored 97 goals in just 120 appearances) at the end of his career is wide of the mark, if not rather harsh. Those are fantastic numbers and I'd lay the blame on the board for sacking Allegri. Juve looked most likely to win the CL under him and Juve hasn't really recovered since his departure.
