This is positive news for us. With Ronaldo gone (based on this mind bogglingly childish interview), the owners would have to bring in attacking reinforcements either way. Even from an optics point of view, it wouldn't look good if no squad additions are made in attack. Not that Ronaldo offered anything to begin with. But he was another body we could throw on when the squad was depleted.

I'll never say bad things abut Ronaldo. Too many good memories for me. Sad situation all around. I'm thankful my son got to see him last year playing well for the Reds.

If they doubted him for not coming to pre season over his daughter being in the hospital I am not surprised that upset him. Especially when his track record shows he has never missed anything ever and the one time he did he got questioned over it.

So once again if his daughter was truly sick during that time as he says and considered he literally just lost a child a few months before hand who shared a womb with the one who was allegedly in the hospital can you blame him ? How would you feel as a parent ?
If he was that upset, why was he whoring himself all over Europe trying to get another team?

Awful that it's come to this, surely there could have been a better negotiated parting of ways. My gut feeling is Ronaldo is the one who would have scuppered such an arrangement, particularly given his public actions.

The thing that does concern me, and is a fair grievance of his - as it's seemingly true, is the comments about lack of progress/change at the club. That must have been a shock and filled him with dread for what it said about standards at the club. He's right about the Rangnick farce too of course.

It's clear that Ronaldo needs to be gone and this second stint quickly forgot about. What shouldn't be forgotten is that this club makes dreadful decisions and isn't totally committed to being the best in England/Europe. That may have all changed (or at least started) this summer, but time will certainly tell on that front.

Encouraging signs under EtH but there's much more to fix on and off the field, frighteningly by some of the same people who've overseen a decade+ of underinvestment in infrastructure, generally dreadful investment on the field, and the wrong decisions in appointing managers till now let's hope.

Life must be a real struggle for the people who think the Paddy Power Ole tweet is a genuine quote.

Sad thing is he could have enhanced his position with the fans and maybe even other clubs if he'd just made the interview about overcoming his tragedy, his daughter being ill as an explanation for missing pre season, and criticised the clubs poor investment in facilities and lack of previous planning.

But no, brain too small and ego too big to figure that one out and now he's torpedoed his reputation.

So most of the media said he was being shopped around Europe, multiple clubs openly rejected him, his ex-teammates said he had an offer to leave, but the club wanted him to stay, but some how the club were trying to force him out?

He is only interested in his own personal glory. He can't win trophies only for himself, so his goals usually align with the club he plays for, but as soon as things aren't going for him, he throws a tantrum. He would rather torch United's season, than spend it as a supporting member of the cast and contribute to a possible successful one. I've heard Gary Neville refer to it as him being so single minded and driven, but the word he was looking for is selfish.

The elephant in the room is regardless of the "disrespect" Ten Hag has shown him, or how hard we've tried to force him out, he has played. Despite him missing pre-season, despite him refusing to come off the bench, he has the 8th most minutes for United this season... and he has been terrible (I'm sure his ham faced interviewer has pressed him on this).

You are the highest paid player in the league and I don't think there is a starting striker who has performed worse. Why wouldn't the club want you gone? If you really wanted to turn the United fans against the management, you should have said they wanted to keep you! This feels like an attempt to force the club to sell or release him and thankfully it should be successful.

Those threads before Ronaldo joined looking better and better, weirdos piled on people for thinking that a) he aint United legend and b) reminding how he really ended up with us.

I expected all kinds of shit from this cnut but must say props to him, this is some next level shit, take a bow.

Sad to see his united career ending this way. Wish he never came back.

This is all over tik tok already, the majority of the comments are taking his side from what I've seen so far. Mostly non United fans I hope.

Of course they will take his side, it's the TikTok crowd. You don't expect common sense from them.

Similarities with keanes interview that ended his career at United.

Not even remotely close. Keane was calling for higher standards. Ronaldo is just angling to get out of the club, as he has been since the summer.

That's wonderful from Carragher, calling out our so called legends. They don't realize or don't want to acknowledge how much they are destroying the club from the outside trying to defend Ronaldo at every opportunity just because they played with him. Feck them all. Club should always come first and these fecks now have forgotten that.

I have a bridge to sell anyone who thinks Ronaldo actually cares about the state of the club. This is all self-serving bullshit to find scapegoats for his failure to perform and try to get a move away.

Whether he has a point or not is irrelevant. His job is to play as a footballer for the club, not pass judgment on the other issues at the club. That’s something managers have to do. He doesn’t seem to find any fault with himself in this whole saga, rather narcissistic of him but not surprising. It’s helpful to know here who’s a Ronaldo fan vs a United fan.

From sky sports, “Ronaldo was told on Thursday that he would not be in the starting XI against Fulham but he would have been in the squad. He told the club he was ill.”
Again?!

What?! His first stint was unbelievable, he left to Madrid, but he still held the admiration of the fans and SAF. His last three seasons for us are some of the best seasons a United player has ever played for the club. Being central to three leagues and one CL is a legacy.
His first stint was "unbelievable" for one season. Of those final three seasons, which were his most prolific at United, Rooney matched his goals in one of the seasons. Rooney throughout his career also outscored him in two more seasons than Ronnie's three "best".

Rudd Van Nistelrooy outscored him in 2 of the 3 "best Ronaldo seasons", as did Dwight Yorke. Best, Law, Charlton. I'm sure they'd have a thing to say about the other two seasons that Ronaldo had that apparently show his "legendary" status despite also doing the same. Hell, Rudd and Law have higher goalscoring numbers in a single season than Ronaldo's best year. But let's not forget that whilst Ronaldo was pumping these high numbers (and they are impressive but not exactly unheard of) he was also surrounded by a circus created by his people.

So in summary a player who was here for six seasons, had one season where he was incredibly prolific, which he capped off with the whole "slave" debacle, which is apparently enough to put him on the same pantheons as players who had better overall careers at the club statically and didn't leave a trail of shit and selfishness on their way to the next big paycheck. Nah, I'm really not buying the stuff about Ronaldo being a United legend because he had one amazing season.

it doesn't even matter to me that much which of his statements are true or not. You simply don't go on television and badmouth your employer like that, taking yet again the focus off a positive result of the team because everything has to be about him. Such a model pro! That some people even try to excuse that is mind-boggling to me.
Nail on head

this was obviously timed to get released once the final game was done before the world cup break.....last time we see him for sure in a red kit

Reckon United lawyers will be working overtime during the world cup, this interview has basically destroyed Uniteds chances of getting a fee for him, among other business related incomes, I'm not massively clued up but this surely is grounds for a defamation case?

Hope Ronaldo has his final few months of playing career being dragged to court etc but I think this will end in contract termination by mutual consent, but if Mendes and this cnut want to be paid off I think United should go for the jugular.

Toxic, he's done. He knows he's out in January so he gives the interview now.

His whole interview comes out as a petty 11 year old that lacks any self awareness.

Even his dig at Rooney:

"I don't know why he criticises me so badly... probably because he finished his career and I'm still playing at a high level," said Ronaldo.

"I'm not going to say that I'm looking better than him. Which is true…"

Are they still legends now?

Petulant cnut can feck right off. We don't need him dragging us down.

Ronaldo hasn’t covered himself in glory recently but this is just revionism. You’re comparing his goal tally to strikers despite playing a traditional/conventional winger role for the majority of his 1st spell here. And he was legendary in 06/07 as well not just 07/08. Still the only player to win all 6 PFA player of the year awards in one season which he did that year.
He was World Class from about February 2006 till he left in June 2009 which is 3.5 seasons and that is reflected in him being in the PL team of the season 4 years in a row and finishing in the BDOR rankings 2nd, 1st and 2nd from 2006-2009.
He’s dented his legacy with his behaviour but let’s not rewrite what he actually did.
