Except that Maguire is not being excused, Maguire has been rightfully dropped and no one is defending Maguire and asking for Maguire to start. Maguire himself is also not doing interviews about him being 'disrespected' because his name isn't on the team sheet despite his terrible performances.

Also the 'Had to work with scraps' part really doesn't hold up when you realise only Salah and Mane had a higher xG than Ronaldo last season. So other than Salah and Mane if Ronaldo was feeding of scraps, so was every other player in the league.
I was discussing with two guys here yesterday that explicitly said that Ronaldo was to blame for Maguire’s poor form last season because of his “goal hanging.”

He will end up having no club in January instead of accepting a sub/squad player role at Utd. Like Neville said, in a few years he will regret the interview and antics the last few months.
Honestly don`t think so. He is so in love with himself he can`t do anything wrong. Will always be the fault of others, no matter what.

For all intents and purposes, we do want him to have a great WC or not ?

It doesn’t matter what we want. He will be crap either way. I sure as shit am not rooting for him though.

I’m #CR7OUT so don’t get me wrong, but stats have to understood in context. Fine, Ronaldo scored his 18 PL goals in only 4 matches or whatever is alleged here and thus is subject to severe criticism, but how many goals did Rashford, Martial and Sancho score…combined? I’m pretty sure it was less than 18.

So instead of arguing that Ronaldo was our best outfield player last season, which some people refuse to acknowledge, can we at least agree that Ronaldo was our least shite player last season?
I'd argue that his presence contributed in part to the alarming drop offs in the rest of the forward line. You just have to look at how often he demands the ball and how often our players defer to him to their own and the team's detriment.
Even this season, when Ronaldo doesn't play, we score more, and all of the front line look like they could grab a goal; conversely when he plays, he struggles to score, and everyone else (including those that do well in his absence) struggle as well.

Same thing happened last season, the difference was he was scoring. I'm not saying the others should be absolved of any responsibility when it comes to how shocking their performances were, but Ronaldo in the team is detrimental to everyone else.

If you demand every ball in the final 3rd, you'll outscore everyone, doesn't mean he didn't miss a shedload and cost us points

Not sure it changes anything either way. Don`t think a handful of good games from him is going to trick any big european club to take a chance on him. He was half decent most of the time last season, and has been woeful most of the time this season. His decline is real and there for all to see. Combine that with acting like a spoiled and insecure teenager far to often while still demanding top level wage and there is not a big club in sight that is really interested.

The reason why no one will touch him after this is simple and has nothing to do with finances. In the interview he made it clear that being a sub is seen as a provocation and disrespect from the manager. No one in their right mind would want such a presence in the dressing room, especially since he's not delivering on the pitch anymore.
How twisted and sadistic you have to be when the club that developed you is finally doing well for the first time in a decade and you need to bring it all down so that you could look good at 37 years old?
The last time a player pissed me off this much warranted me a warning point, so I'm just gonna stay away from this thread.

Our forward line for the majority of last season was Sancho, Rashford and Elanga when you exclude Ronaldo since Cavani, Greenwood & Martial were completely absent after January.

Sancho was hot and cold last season at best with no standout performances while Rashford and Elanga had no business anywhere near a football pitch. That’s how poor they were.

Do you genuinely believe that frontline was anywhere good enough for top 4 last season even if we were to substitute Ronaldo with another forward?

I think you already know that no one said United played better without him last season on the basis of only last season, rather that we did so relative to the season before he arrived (and now the present one). Where there has been a large enough sample it's been apparent we have fared okay or better without.
Tbh I didn’t know that. This is what you wrote: ‘The same thing that happens this season. The one week he plays everyone's performance dips’

Makes it sound like you meant it happened from one week to the other last season as well.
This is fair.

It’s blatantly obvious this season that our attack is massively more fluid and hard working if Ronaldo isn’t playing. Last season, despite obvious deficiencies in his game (total lack of effort off the ball) we were crap in attack without him as well.

Of course there might be other factors involved. For one reason or another, Rashford was shockingly off form last season and his workrate was abysmal. Ronaldo’s fault? Hardly, though carrying a player who thinks it’s beneath him to work on behalf of the team is not exactly helpful.

This I agree with, mostly. Tbh, there were times last season were Ronaldo worked well off the ball as well, towards the end, under Rangnik. Undoubtedly because it fit his personal narrative in some way, but nonetheless. He’s actually worked quite hard off the ball this season too, mostly, for a 37 year old. It’s just that nothing comes off anymore. His touch is variable, his timing is off, his balance, his step, his jump, his speed, his shots, his heading - everything is a notch below good enough.

He is a total narcissist, and at his best, he was able to fit that narcissism into a team. When it goes south, however, it gets really ugly, as can be seen. As for last season, I suspect his personality was one of several driving forces turning things sour, but I don’t think was as straight forward as it seems this year.

So 2 random guys mean Maguire isn't excused?

So 2 guys on internet mean Maguire isn't excused?
Let’s be honest. It’s not just 2 users. Those were the two I happened to engage with. And I did say some people were blaming him for Maguire’s performances. Didn’t say all.

Some people are saying he's still at top of his form and can score goals to help the team. 100 people 100 opinions.

Amazing.. from spending 90 mins crying about how media and negative hurts him, its not good to read, people need to believe him to... I am an iron suit, it doesnt bother him..

What a joker

I am bulletproof?

He has probably always been a raging narcissist, atleast to some degree. But i guess it doesn`t show as much when you are top of the world.

I just don't think hes very bright and assumes that everyone will lap up his completely ridiculous story despite it being contradictory and complete fabrication in places.

This is the crux of the issue between the two camps. One side believes that Ronaldo salvaged an awful season in some ways and others think that Ronaldo was a massive reason for the teams performance, attitude and morale falling off a cliff. We will never know for sure.

Ironically I think that there are few people in the world that care more about what people think about them, his whole thing is image, the way he courts social media how many people worship him is his entirety.

What happens to Ronaldo in a few years when the spotlight fades?

From Man Utd legend to one of the most hated player. His disrespect to the club, manager and players are unbelievable. His return to the club was a catastrophic mistake. Bloody Woodward!

One day Ronnie will be gone and then we'll see where it all goes. Will the team then suddenly start competing for the premiership or continue scraping by? All in all Ronnie is the big bad and with him gone all will be rosy. ;)

For me it's blown out of proportion. He shouldn't have done what he did and because of that will most likely lose his job. However, the line 'he doesn't respect the coach', he added 'because the coach doesn't respect him' has often been left out. It's not all on the player, sometimes it doesn't work out between two people.

After the dust has settled, me thinks people won't be as negative towards Ronaldo like atm. :nervous:

I really hope for some club announcement before Portugal game. Hope they’ll get rid this clown asap.

I used to look up to this guy. He can feck right off. I can’t believe how arrogant he is even at 37 when he is no longer in the top 10 best players in the world.

Team performs better without him.He was not in a form and was benched rightly so. Can’t see any wrong here.

People won’t be negative because people quickly forget things.

No. He was fairly decent last season. This season he has been shit. I don't know the situation behind the scenes of course but when he slates his former manager and his current manager and refuse to play he should be sacked.
