Hold on.. but why would adidas pay us that much even if we finish fourth and not Liverpool Even if they win. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we have more stars on our team and that we are bigger club. So even though we do not directly benefit from this shirt sales having someone like Cristiano Ronaldo would definitely help with landing a bigger deal with Adidas, would it not ?
Because United is one of the top 3 teams in kits sold in the world, maybe #1, and that's due to a lot of factors, not only star power, and a couple of bad seasons don't stop that. Real Madrid were still selling shirts when their stars were a 32 y/o RVN, Robinho or Robben.
I doubt it would help, first you need to land the transfer just before a deal is signed (not when it's already done), and second, when we're talking about 750M in 10 years, a 100M signing isn't going to raise that offer in 20 or 50M, as that article said, with big clubs people usually buy their shirts, what a marquee signing changes in that people is the number on the back, but the amount of shirts they sell doesn't have a considerable boost, if you're a Messi fan for example, you're not getting Ronaldo's shirt at Juve.
Do you believe you can sell a million shirts on people thinking "thank god Ronaldo left Real, now I can buy his Juve shirt because I don't dislike them".
Anyway, even more direct answer, Adidas supply both Juve and Real Madrid, why would they care about what shirt does Ronaldo wear when they sell them, if they're getting the money anyway?.
Very interesting but not sure I understand everything.
The article says "for the supplier, kit deals are licensing deals, and that’s where the real value lies to Adidas." What is a licensing deal.?
What do you mean with "Why do you think Real ask 100M and not 400?".
I read that Madrid are not so so worried about Adidas deal because in the current one they get a commission for every sale,or something like that.
Is it related to the article?
Licensing is that basically a club lends the rights of their kits to Adidas just so they can manufacture and sell them for profit, imagine you're a famous guy and putting your face on shirts is profitable, you can either make the shirts or, if you don't have time (or money) to do so, you sell to Nike the rights to put your face on shirts for 90M, because their market team think that's a deal that can land them north of 120M. They can do it cheaper because they have the infrastructure, which is the hardest part, the one that probably would stop you from doing it yourself.
Why would they ask more? economics 101, if you're going to sell me a classic car, and we both know that I can recoup the price you set by bringing it to a couple classic car shows in its first year you would raise the price, otherwise you wouldn't sell the car for a one-time-only X profit, when you can get X profit every year just by exhibiting it.
4 league goals by January...
In reality he scored 16 goals in his first 22 games just his goals came in the CL and Spanish Cup...then he ended the season on 44 goals including the over head kick etc against Juve.
People trying to pick holes in his record, its bizarre.
Just a small correction, Super Cup, he hasn't played a single minute in the Cup. I think it's important just to put in context what Juventus are paying for, a player that this season got 500 minutes axed from his season, and is on 1k minutes less than what he was playing up until 14/15.
For Juve it's not just a problem of "will his output still be 100M worth on the pitch?", they also have to manage him so he's there to deliver in the biggest games, because you're not signing a 5k minutes@season player with Ronaldo at this stage of his career.
