Cristiano Ronaldo | Real confirm deal

The way current deals are made is that the sponsor gets all the money from the shirt sales. This is offset by the huge lump sums the clubs get paid by the sponsors.

Manufacturer, that distinction is key. The lump of money, as you call it, is merely part of the share that the manufacturer is willing to give.

This will be a very good business for Real. Buy for 80M, win 4 ucl, sell for 100M at age 34.

And also very poor business by us, from our perspective. He had a 5 year contract back then with us. We should have fleeced Madrid by at least double and they would have still payed it and we should have replaced him well as Madrid built a team around him by marketing him and we were too laid back in our attitude to compete Madrid over transfers and basically they had a free run to all the players they wanted, from Modric to Benzema ,to Varane, Ozil, Bale and Kroos, while we were too dependent on SAF's genius to keep us going with curbing our spending and relinquish all our heavy weight status in Europe and when he left even in the league.

Hold on.. but why would adidas pay us that much even if we finish fourth and not Liverpool Even if they win. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we have more stars on our team and that we are bigger club. So even though we do not directly benefit from this shirt sales having someone like Cristiano Ronaldo would definitely help with landing a bigger deal with Adidas, would it not ?

Because United is one of the top 3 teams in kits sold in the world, maybe #1, and that's due to a lot of factors, not only star power, and a couple of bad seasons don't stop that. Real Madrid were still selling shirts when their stars were a 32 y/o RVN, Robinho or Robben.

I doubt it would help, first you need to land the transfer just before a deal is signed (not when it's already done), and second, when we're talking about 750M in 10 years, a 100M signing isn't going to raise that offer in 20 or 50M, as that article said, with big clubs people usually buy their shirts, what a marquee signing changes in that people is the number on the back, but the amount of shirts they sell doesn't have a considerable boost, if you're a Messi fan for example, you're not getting Ronaldo's shirt at Juve.

Do you believe you can sell a million shirts on people thinking "thank god Ronaldo left Real, now I can buy his Juve shirt because I don't dislike them".

Anyway, even more direct answer, Adidas supply both Juve and Real Madrid, why would they care about what shirt does Ronaldo wear when they sell them, if they're getting the money anyway?.

Very interesting but not sure I understand everything.
The article says "for the supplier, kit deals are licensing deals, and that’s where the real value lies to Adidas." What is a licensing deal.?
What do you mean with "Why do you think Real ask 100M and not 400?".
I read that Madrid are not so so worried about Adidas deal because in the current one they get a commission for every sale,or something like that.
Is it related to the article?

Licensing is that basically a club lends the rights of their kits to Adidas just so they can manufacture and sell them for profit, imagine you're a famous guy and putting your face on shirts is profitable, you can either make the shirts or, if you don't have time (or money) to do so, you sell to Nike the rights to put your face on shirts for 90M, because their market team think that's a deal that can land them north of 120M. They can do it cheaper because they have the infrastructure, which is the hardest part, the one that probably would stop you from doing it yourself.

Why would they ask more? economics 101, if you're going to sell me a classic car, and we both know that I can recoup the price you set by bringing it to a couple classic car shows in its first year you would raise the price, otherwise you wouldn't sell the car for a one-time-only X profit, when you can get X profit every year just by exhibiting it.

4 league goals by January...

In reality he scored 16 goals in his first 22 games just his goals came in the CL and Spanish Cup...then he ended the season on 44 goals including the over head kick etc against Juve.

People trying to pick holes in his record, its bizarre.

Just a small correction, Super Cup, he hasn't played a single minute in the Cup. I think it's important just to put in context what Juventus are paying for, a player that this season got 500 minutes axed from his season, and is on 1k minutes less than what he was playing up until 14/15.

For Juve it's not just a problem of "will his output still be 100M worth on the pitch?", they also have to manage him so he's there to deliver in the biggest games, because you're not signing a 5k minutes@season player with Ronaldo at this stage of his career.

@K2K you're ignoring the contezt of the deal. Juventus own licensing rights, which means they make money on every shirt sold, unlike clubs like united who are paid a fixed amount by adidas. There are probably more fans of cristiano ronaldo in the world than juventus. The market pool will be bigger, which means they'd likely stand to sell significantly more shirts than last season.

Yes it's a myth that shirt sales alone could pay the investment, but in this specific case it could play a not insignificant role in it. Of course shirt sales isn't how juventus plan to pay for it, as you stated, it's mostly sponsorships and increase in value of the brand

Rome is an amazing don’t know what you’re talking about.

I personally think Milan is one of the most boring cities in Italy. Had too much of an office/business feel to it like Rotterdam.

People go crazy over Florence but I have honestly found my time in Rome to always be best.

Only places I’ve been to in Italy are Rome and Venice. Rome was fantastic, I have great memories from that trip.

Aaah, people who went to Rome on holidays

Try actually living there for a prolonged period of time

No one was going to pay 200M for any player in the world back in 2009, even in 2017 Neymar going for 220M was mind boggling.

This is a total investment of 340 million euros for Juve. 100 million fee plus 60 million in wages per year for 4 years.

For that money Juve could have done better from a footballing perspective than this big risk of spending it on a 33 year old but the commercial effect it will have is what makes it worth it and I don’t think that would really be true for a club like United for example who don’t really need it.

I have been there for weeks but yes always for recreation and never to live. However, I wouldn't live in Milan. I found it really boring but a good location to go to other places for weekends.

Based on his performance I'd take him back. I don't know if I can survive his antics though. News from Italy seems like he's really joining Juventus. Good coup by them if so and it's actually smart from CR to choose Juventus. Italy, big club and relatively slow league. Win win for both sides.

If you like football you probably like X team first, and then comes Y player, you're bound to buy shirts from your team, not that guy playing for PES United in Australia.

That has been our weakness. Do other abroad clubs Care how much a club can pay? Did Tottenham cared? DoMonaco care how much they want for James Rod and how much a club can pay? You pay or you dont have him. I am not saying 200 m exact but we should have Replaced him so well with that money that we should have laid the foundations of a new team who would have taken the club forward. Okay I understand we were strong enough financially and were not dependent of player sales alone but we made a Bad deal out of it knowing his potential and drive for success he had and surrendered our European Dominance we had While Madrid built theirs at Our expense.

Is this really happening? Didn't Juve already buy a lot of players this year? Costa, Cancelo etc.? How can they afford another 100 million player?

I guess it makes sense for them since they are obviously trying hard to win a CL title. It also makes sense for Real as they'll have to replace Ronaldo soon anyway. If they are able to get a lot of cash for him now it would enable them to get a good replacement (Mbappe, Neymar, Hazard,...). I don't really know if it makes sense for Ronaldo. But if Juve offer him 30 million € after tax.

Still i can't see this one happening.

From everything Ive been reading online Juve and Ronaldo have already agreed terms and now Juve is in the process of selling players to raise money.
We'll probably get Sandro a bit easier because of this but I still cant wrap my mind around seeing Ronaldo in a Juve shirt.

This is a deal that seems to make sense for all parties.
I wonder who Real will end up with when the dust has settled ... Neymar/Hazard/Mbappe/Dybala?

This. With the caveat that he's not just valuable to juventus, he's valuable(arguably even more so) to FCA and the entire portfolio of the Agnelli family
What's wrong with it?
Just an example: last year a large chunk of the city went without running water for weeks. The city has always been a mess in terms of organization -the public transportation is a joke- and then the last 3 city administrations went out of their way to turn it into a third world city. Cirrent mayor is trying to save the city(and this isn't hyperbole), so far wth little success

Yes. I think Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi have more fans than juventus, liverpool, chelsea, bayer munich, etc. They might have more fans than madrid and barcelona. Cristiano changing team would mobilize many of his fans to buy the new club's shirt. The effect this season should be massive. It will fall back to normal the seasons after, but right away? Take a look at PSG's shirt sales between 2016/17 and this season

If Ronaldo ends up helping Juve win a CL in the next 2 seasons, it will be worth every penny for me imo.

I continue to be skeptical, but something seems to be happening. 2 things I do not understand: 1 where Juve finds the money to pay his salary, but above all 2: is he available? is he ready to leave Madrid? why the hell we are not in?

I can't because I can't find anything, most I can find are things like this

http://www.marca.com/en/football/international-football/2017/09/17/59be6aca22601dab778b45bd.html

"With Neymar and Kylian Mbappe joining during August, shirt sales rose 75 percent to hit 120,000 in official PSG stores."

That doesn't mean a lot, of course you can get an absurd peak of 75% over your sales in August when you just signed Mbappe and Neymar, who were their main attractions in August 2016 to sell shirts?. What matters is the overall yearly report, or even 5 year spans.

Because we also get nonsense like this

https://www.sport24.co.za/Soccer/In...sg-make-quick-million-on-shirt-sales-20170805

"At an average of 100 euros each, PSG generated one million euros even before he had kicked a ball."

Probably a pressure tactic by Mendes and Ronaldo camp to Match what he wants just like Sergio Ramos did with us. I expect Him to stay as always in the end and I am sure most of us will have same line of thinking.

Allegri has returned from his holiday in Trieste to meet Juve President Agnelli in Turin. They're awaiting news from the meeting between Perez and Mendes but this move has some serious traction behind it now.

Juve are surely not a poor club, they're always in top 10 list when it comes to richest clubs in the world or something like that. They just prefer cheap signings, and for FFP they'll sell some players, like Sandro or even Higuain.

Nothing is ever easy with Ronaldo. A quick transfer to Juventus sounds strange.

Also strange if we are not after him.

We have been penny pinching due to the likes of Blind, Darmian etc on high wages. And Sanchez's wages is an extra load. Doubt we will ever be interested.

Juve are notorious misers always hunting for bargains, but not completely skint. They can spend money and pay high wages when they see fit.

Based on his performance alone, regardless of age, 44 goals in 44 games, CL top scorer and winner, would probably cost over 300m. Not to mentioned his huge commercial value. (Lets face it, Neymar today would cost around 250-300m, Salah and Kane would cost 200-250m)

Since there's no resell value, 70% off his performance value would be about right. So, 100m, there you go.

Juve can't pay his salary without risking heavy FFP sanctions, as his requested salary would be 4 times that of Juve's current top earner (Higuain). News outlets here in Italy are reporting that Fiat will sign a big sponsorship deal with Ronaldo to pay part of his wages, and thus circumvent FFP.

they can pay 70 ml euros per year?

Just read on "mediaset": Marotta and Paratici are flying to Madrid.
It's on.

The league is the bread and butter of any player, how many league goals is always a good guide to where the player is at form wise. Two five goal hauls against postmen isn't the same as a single goal away at Valencia etc etc.

Spanish press seem to think this nowhere near being a done deal, COPE reporting that Ron had his salary increased to €30m per year before the World Cup & that invalidates the €100m buyout clause, so his clause still stands at €1bn.

On the subject of shit cities, why the hell are they meeting in Trieste? Now that's an awful city.

Let’s get Dybala and Sandro off them to help fund the move.

Feck if he actually leaves and we don't get him it will be a true shame...

I actually think Juve could still make a decent sale when he’s 37 to China or the MLS.

Who is meeting in Trieste?
Wait, I read that wrong. Why the hell is Allegri on hollidays in Trieste? That's even worse. Unless he's a huge fan of run down residential buildings or something.
