Ronaldo is epitome of a top class athlete. NBA players play their whole career jumping while footballers run over 10k every single game with speeds up to 35km/h like the fastest NBA players but the distance is about 2-3x the distance and the sprints are longer.
So please they'll me how a 36 year old footballer jumping over 70cm, running over 10k while maxing out over 30km/h isn't elite. You know he is 36 right? He would have jumped higher at his peak level 5-6 years ago and he had higher speed and quicker acceleration.
Because 70cm, 10km over 90minutes, and 30km/h is not elite.
I'm 33, I was never near elite at any sport, I carry about 6kg extra body fat and can hit these numbers!
I know many people who can, these would be common numbers in amateur GAA.
You are also selling Ronaldo short, he probably runs faster than 30km/h, that's very slow!
I was addressing the poster who incorrectly compared Ronaldo's running jump to an NBA standing jump, that was wrong.
The point is he does not have a specific elite athletic quality.
71cm compared to actual decent jumpers in AFL or NBA is poor.
The good guys there are 90cm+ and elite ones are 100cm+.
We know there are many footballers faster and fitter than Ronaldo, outside football there are many more.
Within his own sport he is known for his jumping, which is not really impressive if you understand what a 71cm running vert actually means.
I'm just trying inform people who have misconceptions about what these numbers mean, it is not a dig at Ronaldo.
It is clear to me most people following football have really poor understanding of physical performance metrics and comparisons to other sports.
