Cristiano Ronaldo - Man Utd Player

He's definitely heard something. It's mentioned in the athletic article that Rio was heavily involved in the deal and is close with Woodward. Howson seems to think there's more business to come so wouldn't surprise me if Rio has let some info slip to him again.
Howson was saying that before this video with Rio. He doesn't know what he's talking about. He keeps coming back to Pogba going to PSG when all the reputable links are saying he's staying.

Leaving the excitement behind..Does anyone think that it can unsettle the team in any form ?
I dont think so, and i think the positives of this signing outweight any possible negatives.
i mean he will only be here for 2 seasons, maybe 3 if everything comes together well over the next couple of seasons.
Players will learn from him, this will bring new fans, sponsorships, and money to Utd. Even if it doesnt work out, its not like we just spent 100mil on him.

The complete opposite.

Take Sancho for instance, where he might have felt pressure to perform being the big money signing this summer, that pressure is completely gone and he can get on with his business.

The likes of rashford in particular will be buzzing to be playing with his idol.

And he's a fecking winner. You think we lose to villa real last season with winners like Ronaldo and varane in the team? Mate.

Give this poster a gold medal for post of the year.

Me going through all the pages of this thread. Keep the party going lads.

Ronaldo lost to fecking Lyon, so if the rest of the team doesn't step up in the big games, then no...they won't make the difference, especially at Ronaldo's age. However if the team can actually maintain their level, then talents like Ronaldo are what can push you over the line. Him being a winner is not necessarily going to translate into the team being a winner or having that mentality. Very good point about Sancho though, it's a masterstroke.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said about this. But I have to get my name onto the thread talking about one of the most surprising and exciting transfers in a lifetime for a Man Utd fan

They lost on away goals, 2-2 on aggregate, and shock Ronaldo got both juve goals.
United are a better side than juventus, and I don't think juventus lose to Lyon in a cup final for what it's worth.

I sat and watched his debut vs Bolton. I knew he would be a superstar and I knew when he left for RM he would play for us again.

Not going to lie, emotional moment for me today, and its my Birthday! What a day!

My mate who I've been to 200+ games with said to me today this is the first time he's felt proud of United in 10 years

It's not just a transfer. It means something

Viva Ronaldo
I'm afraid to go to sleep. What if I wake up and find out this was all just a dream? :nervous:

I was pinching and slapping myself in work today, at one point genuinely thought I was dreaming

I think he'll also have the incentive of rising on our all time scorers list.

He's currently on number 18 on our list with 118 goals. If he only scores 33 goals in the next 2 years, he'll surpass 11th place RVN on 150 goals.

On the other hand if he plays here for 3 years and gets his Juve numbers, he'll go into 4th place behind Denis Law.

Fingers crossed :D

Wayne Rooney
253
Sir Bobby Charlton249
Denis Law237
Jack Rowley211
Dennis Viollet179
George Best179
Joe Spence168
Ryan Giggs168
Mark Hughes163
Paul Scholes155
Ruud van Nistelrooy150
Stan Pearson148
David Herd145
Tommy Taylor131
Brian McClair127
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer126
Andy Cole121
Cristiano Ronaldo118

Or he goes into Ronaldo of Madrid and before and in 4 years passes Rooney !

I've been having crazy dreams lately as my Dr. switched me onto some new meds. Sorry boys but I think this is just another of my weird dreams and you're all part of it

I just can't believe this has happened. What a rollercoaster 24 hours....I'm 34 years of age, 2 kids, a mortgage...
Jesus fecking Christ I'm so giddy

Holy shit! Here we are all getting excited about the Ronaldo transfer and it’s not a patch on the 24 hours you have had!

Let’s go!!!

Being honest - I wasn’t sure of this. Stand alone, it’s not what we need. We have a hole in midfield and they have to fill it. It must be filled or this seems wasteful from a footballing POV. If we fill that hole though, this window is incredible.

Screw it - he’s back! What a day!

Made up for you guys. Absolutely buzzing.

Not convinced that CR's the missing piece to win the PL or the CL, but really who cares?

Football's not about plastic clubs stockpiling all the best players in the world just because they can, it's not about money laundering or sportswashing, it's not even just about winning.

It's more than that. It's about the emotion, the excitement, the ups and the downs, the romance.

Can't wait to see Cristiano running out at a packed Old Trafford for the first time (again), the crowd reaction and the camera panning to Sir Alex and the smile on his face.

You love to see it.

Exactly this. To try and dissect this move so much really just misses the point of football. For me at least anyway

Wow i still can't believe it, i was updating our site and Fabrizios when "BOOOOM", we announced that the deal was a Here we go!" - and i just frozed up and couldn't move or say anything for at least 2 min before starting to laugh like a moron and my wife asked me what was going. And when i told here she ran to me and just hugged me and I got tear my eyes, and i looked at her and she had tears as well, we both just looked at each other with tears in our eyes for a minute before starting to sing "Viva Ronaldo" and i can't remember football made me so happy. No matter the results of this transfer, no matter trophies, how many goals/assists he provides - this is so much bigger! Cirkel of life. I just want to say that I love all you United fans, the club, SAF, the players, Ole and football! In hard times, somehow, it can always make you happy - and i am so grateful my father introduced me to this wonderful sport and specielly this amazing team almost 30 years ago. I really hope every person has a passion for something in life, besides the obvious things like family, friends etc, like we real football fans do.

Once again, thank you Manchester United for everything.

fekin ell this came out of the blue.
welcome back home Ronnie

It still feels surreal.

My mom got me a 06/07 home shirt with Ronaldo on the back when I was around 7 years old and from that moment I was a United fan  But the sad part is that I really only started following United and football very closely from the 09/10 season when I was 10 years old, just when Ronaldo left. So it was always a bummer for me that I never really got to see the peak of that Fergie side with Ronaldo in it.

I can't believe that in the end I'll get to enjoy him in United, he's probably one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with football too.

Why did he want to leave Juve? Did something go wrong there?

I think he moved to Juventus and the Serie A to win a CL with a team from there.

That was not going to happen. I also think Juventus couldn't afford him anymore. Alongside him being subbed out quite some times - think he just felt it was the time.

They've been trying to move him on because they're broke

Makes you wonder why we had to pay a transfer fee. City were trying to sign him on a free by all accounts.

I reckon we all were! I had some loose belief that he’d come back to us, mostly because we’re one of the few teams who can afford him and I do think he has real affection here, but when City came into the mix it was game over! Even for Ronaldo fans it wasn’t about where he would go, but how can they manage that cognitive dissonance. This one was right out of left field! Seemingly even for the United staff. The story from the Athletic is a bit mad. How could it be that the United hierarchy didn’t know he was ready to come to England until after he was set on a move to City?!

Great story in any case!

Yeah that story from the Athletic is interesting.

They never thought he wanted to come back either until the very end.

The fee wasn't even that much for a player of Ronaldo's calibre.

City trying to get him on a free might have made Juventus accept a lower fee than they originally wanted just to stick it to them.

I'm still stunned he came back. I never thought he'd come back.

I hope he leads us to another Prem title. Would be incredible.

I was on the Caf 24 hours ago. Last thing I check was the transfer tweets. He looked certain to be going to City. I went to sleep here in the states preparing myself to hate him. Thinking of ways to justify the words I would say to my TV because he was on Blue.

Woke up this morning, and followed everything from the start. Hate turned to joy. Relief. Happiness. Having watched Juve and Undinese last weekend. I laughed when he scored the goal that VAR disallowed. He's still got it.

This guy is a winner. He is a goal scorer. And he will absolutely wom trophies here. It's all he does. He scores, and he wins. He won't settle for less. And I think this team is damn good. And firs what he is now.

22 goals. That's my prediction for him.

I'm finding it difficult to understand people, who think Ronaldo's arrival will hinder the development of the likes of Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho, etc. These lads are literally going ro be learning from the best goalscorer of the last 15 years and will be able to observe his behaviour on and off the pitch on a daily basis.

Sure, Greenwood's minutes as a striker may be limited, but by the time Ronaldo leaves, Mason will still be just 22 years old and would have spend 2 years of his development absorbing every aspect of Ronaldo's presence.

As of the team shifting their play style to suit Ronaldo, I'm sure Pogba and Bruno won't mind having someone with Cristiano's striker movement at the end of their more risky passes.

Of course, only time will tell who's right and who's wrong here, but one thing's certain - we're all in for one hell of a season.

Woke up and after spending 12 to 14 hours yesterday follow all this, it's no surprise that all I could see when I closed my eyes was Ronaldo running in a red shirt for us!
So happy to wake up and know it wasn't just a dream.
