I think it indicates that match going fans are very different from online fans.
Pre season friendly fans are also very different from your average season ticket holder.
You can say that if you want, but I find it perplexing how the player who has been wanting out all summer gets the loudest cheer of all the players.

If you feel like there's some thematic trauma at play it's cultish behavior from fans that can't wrap their head around a player having personal aspirations beyond the club they play for. And similarly for calling names when fans dissociate themselves from all the summer rumors and show up games and cheer for the players on the field.
