My prediction is Ronaldo will start a lot of games in first few months - ETH will be forced to "try it out" first. He won't drop Ronaldo that easily, firstly for marketing reasons, secondly because he himself said something about "building team around Ronaldo".
What Atletico? haven't you read their presedent's statment? there is no Atletico offer for him, its just lies made by his agent to spred the feeling that he is wanted. The problem for Ronaldo is that Clubs have been giving official statments in rejecting him which left him out to roast. He trusted his agent who made a stupid mistake.

Literally every other attacking player suffered from Ronaldo's arrival having to sacrifice everything just so that Ronnie can have 30 shots on goal per game. Same thing happened in Juventus, although I was skeptical and didn't believe it either when their fans were glad to see the back of him due to the same reason 11 months ago. Now I realise he really is detrimental to teams these days.
He's the 2nd greatest to ever do it in my eyes, he's the reason I fell in love with both football and United, but I can still be unbiased. We were better without him before and will be better when he finally leaves again or Martial takes his spot. Not to mention that in 7 of his seasons at United, he has now wanted to leave 4 times...ungrateful primadonna.
Folks have the right to be pissed off at him, he deserves it.

I can see people are angry/disappointed at him wanting to leave but lots of people change employers and there's no reason to think footballers are any different in this aspect. I wonder how people today would react to a George Best situation where he just went AWOL...

Haller was a Ten Hag player who scored a lot of goals for him at Utrecht.
Cristiano did well last year but he should realise he is no longer the irresistible and irreplaceable player he once was. His conduct has been unacceptable and shows a complete lack of humility. For those talking about Cristiano’s contribution last year, remember that a 35 year old Zlatan also scored 17 PL goals and arguably contributed more to the build up. Cristiano did well but it was nothing that any other good striker cannot deliver.

Also, whether or not Martial reaches Ronaldo's numbers is irrelevant (he's done it before, though, so not sure what you mean by fooling myself, Martial is capable of scoring 20-25 a season), because him, Rashford, Fernandes and Sancho will very likely score a lot more, than last season + we've added Eriksen too. I guarantee you we will score a lot more goals this season if Ronaldo leaves / becomes just a squad player.

Ronaldo is a Man Utd legend. He was the key player in one of the best seasons in the club's history, the star of a Man Utd team that won three Premier League titles in a row. On the pitch nobody can question his contribution to the club, looking across the whole span of history.

I just find this current situation strange. The last time he left Madrid was waiting in the wings, literally, for years. This time round, unless all the public statements by club directors and the like are pure theatre, there's nobody stepping forward to offer him a deal. Why make such a fuss if you don't even have a destination sorted?

If anything I'd say it's the opposite. Younger fans/fans that are more detached from the club and support the cult of Ronaldo just as much as United won't care about how he behaves and will always find ways to justify anything he does. He has that effect on his followers.
That might actually be the best option for both parties at this stage.

Martial could not get anywhere close to 18 league goals if the whole club focused on him as the #9 striker and started him every game? Not even like 10-15 goals?

That's the problem with going full Cristiano in every game, as the lone striker, give him all penalties and freekicks, concentrating all attacks on him.
It leads to him ultimately scoring some goals and for every argument against him, there is a supporter answering '....but his goal tally'.
I mean those 18 league goals are not even that great, considering all circumstances. Would another of our squad have done the same? Who knows, but he wouldn't even have needed to, because there would be the possibility to play a team game if you are not centering the whole team around Ronnie.
His last season saw him contributing to a goal every 115 minutes, in all competitions.
Rashford the season before? 115 as well, despite not playing at CF most times. Cavani? scored every 95th minute.
The year before? 102mins/point for Rashford, 101mins/point for Martial.
It's not like Ronaldo has done something unhuman this past year. It was, in fact, a pretty average strikers performance.
And yes, I'm completely sure we wouldn't have been any worse if he didn't sign here. Those abysmal 57 league goals would've been easy to match for this team +whoever else we would've bought instead.

Even United are happy to let him go. The issue with Ronaldo is that he has not got anywhere else he can go.
There is no easy solution to this, it's a mess. Ronaldo's manoeuvres have made it difficult for him to come back without undermining the manager and the club. Ronaldo's wages and decline are at odds with each other, he's not worth the money and effort that he costs. The only ways out of it are for either United or Ronaldo to take a massive loss. United giving up the transfer fee and possibly paying out part of Ronaldo's contract to get rid. Or Ronaldo taking a massive pay cut to the point where he'd be playing for maybe only 20% of his salary from before. And both of them require not only each party to take a great financial loss, but a reputational loss. It will highlight how wrong United were to buy Ronaldo last season if you're paying him to get out of the club. And it will be a massive ego dent for Ronaldo to only collect €100,000 a week somewhere, he would go from being top 5 best paid in Europe to way outside the top 50.
It is a mess but I think Ronaldo doing what he has done, makes Ten Hag's job easier to drop him. He can say, you didnt want to be here, you showed it by missing pre season and now I have my tactics and team ready. Tough.
You couldn't find a suitor, I am not guaranteeing you a starting 11 place.
I dont think United should make it easy for him either, paying him off is not an option. He either leaves with a fee or stays and on the bench.
