Can't wrap my head around this 100 ball format. What difference is 40 balls? Half an hour of time at most? How is it going to attract a new audience that don't have time for t20?

It's because of the BBC, apparently.

ECB want to get the sport on free to air TV for (at least) some games. BBC are (apparently) hesitant to commit unless the game time can be gotten down in to 2.30. The ECB watched some IPL games and concluded they can take 4 hours, apparently unaware that the IPL is full of nonsense and ad breaks to drag the spectacle out.

So now we have the farce the is the Hundred.

Holy shit if Sri Lanka pulls this series off then it will be one of the greatest upsets ever in test cricket history.

Would be an incredible achievement. Need 197 to win....

Great effort from their bowlers, some collapse from SA though.

This pitch is bit of a disgrace though. 30 wickets already gone and it's only day two.

The pitch is fine. SA batting is not. Elgar has lost form, Amla is done though no one wants to say it. Bavuma shouldn't be anywhere near the A side let alone the Test team. Faf only ever turns up in the second innings and the best batsmen is the keeper. The bowling and AB have been covering up some huge cracks in this batting lineup for some time, now theyre being exposed. If they lose this series the selectors, quite a few of the team and even Faf will be in the hot seat as we're leading up to a WC with a squad that has no chance of winning and some tough away series. The team needs a reboot.

Ottis Gibson has done wonders with this side. No wonder he's in contention for the England job...

Gibson deserves to be fired just for thinking he could play with 5 batsmen and a keeper. He must have been the only person in SA who looked at this side and thought less batsmen is what they needed.

Target 197. SL: 60/2.

137 more runs to become the First Asian team to win a Test Series in South Africa. Cmonnn SL, please don't screw this up. We need this.

Honestly the pitch is actually okay. Just some abysmal batting from both teams. Our batting has looked garbage for a while now.. that's nothing new. SA batting has also looked a bit suspect especially since AB left.. the bowling always seems to bail them out.

Off topic, but your post just reminded me of what a glorious man AB was. My favourite player of the last 10-12 years or so, and easily in my top 3 favourite players ever.

Disgusting from the umpire that was never going near the stumps, feck knows how he gave that out

I, for one, am glad that Stokes decided to review one that he fecking middled to the keeper.

Well played Windies!! Another terrific game.

Huge chuck away job given the platform and the fact Buttler got in.

Don't think either of Curran or Wood will make it to the World Cup for us.

Brilliant from Holder. What a player he is.

Also fair play to Cotterell. As a leftie myself, always nice to see a fellow member of the special breed do well.:)

This is the problem with England though. We've got bags of talent but seem to have a collapse in us all the time. Are we going to be able to hold it together for an entire tournament?

This entire series has been so so good so far.

I was still at the bar when Buttler and Stokes were at the crease and I just assumed the match was done. I got home just in time to see this final over. Needless to say I’m in shock that we brought this back

Agree ahout Curran. Willey or Woakes has to play. If we're going to go hell for leather then no8 is a massive position for us.

Bowled very well, I believe the last 3 times (before today) that England lost chasing have been scores of 350+ so to win by only scoring 290 takes some doing against this England batting line up

Woakes will play if fit. He's by far our best seamer, and he's a shoe-in along with Plunkett. There's one spot for a pacer left in the team. Hales will go as a spare batsman and they'll take someone else too, so you realistically have 3 spots in the squad for seamers.

I think they'll take Willey as a left arm option, but the other two places looks up for grabs. Wood's record is poor and he's the worst batsman, Curran's is better but the sample size is small, and Archer is exciting but untested. I think they'll take Archer unless Wood manages to turn his pace in to wickets over the next three matches which of the other two goes, and which one of the three takes the final slot is difficult.

Whatever happened to Evin Lewis? Why isn't he playing.

I’m actually quite surprised at the turnaround in West Indies cricket. I saw most of WI’s World Cup qualifier matches and the team was woeful in that tournament. They barely scraped through against Scotland because it rained and the game had to be abandoned with Scotland in a promising position. WI also lost against Afghanistan a couple times there.

C'mon Lanka you magnificent bastards.

They're actually bossing this. Wow.

Honestly, I’ve been somewhat out of touch with the selection news for quite a while, so I really can’t say for certain. I remember there were some contract issues with him and CWI in the latter half of last year, not sure if it’s related to that. I quite like Evin though, but at this rate I’m not sure if he’ll make it to the WC.

I’m quite shocked as well, but definitely enjoying our little revival

Holder has really grown into his role, both as a captain and as a leader of this team. A lot of people were initially skeptical years ago when it was announced that he was to be captain, but he really has risen to the challenge and then some.
