Craig Gordon

Change his name to Craig Van Gordon and we may take a look see otherwise, just an above average goalie.

I've kept a closer eye on Gordon (not just Stoke) after being involved in this thread a few weeks back.... I just don't see it. The Stoke game showed everything that is bad in his game.

Decent for a Sunderland, another Ben Foster type.

I can accept your take on him.. I think he has something special in his game though, which I seldom see in other players

I've only just got round to watching MOTD. Good lord he was dreadful against Stoke.

Who out there do you really think could do a job for United ... its a very serious question.

Just think about what Gordon was faced with against Stoke:
- Horrendous conditions
- No protection from the officials
- He had very little help from his defence who are clueless in the air (Ferdinand & Bramble)
- Up against Jones, Carew, Huth and Shawcross just for starters
- The crosses in for #2 & #3 were top notch - Pennant & Etherington
- Bruce using three Centre-halves, and sitting too deep - what does that say Stoke?

I'd be staggered if any other keeper would have faired any better other than perhaps because of luck on the day.

Have any of you actually been watching other keepers over the past two seasons ... even the so-called best have made plenty of mistakes - Cech, Reina, Hart - none of them are better than Gordon. This mantra that keepers are meant to go through the attackers and clear 'em out is pure myth these days - more often than not you'll just look the fool. Not to mention that I can't even see that being the case vs that Stoke lot.

To lay the blame on him as many have suggested fails to take account of the circumstances.

Just made a big howler in the Spurs game. Shades of Taibi, this one.

No where near as bad as Taibi because Gallas made it difficult for him. He should have done much better though.

He just isn't commanding enough.

Come on then pondlife, who's fault was it today? Gallas?

Could have done better but he certainly wasn't helped by his defence. Free header from 8 yards out with another attacker running two yards off the line in front of the keeper.

Sunderland really are shocking from set pieces. Apart from that he had two simple smother saves and one decent block, which was eventually cleared off the line by Bardsley. Sunderland attack created f-all, as did Spurs for the most part.

Shite keeping... simples! That's 2 weeks running. Dodgy as fooook.

Aye, seems like barrel-scraping if he's getting a lot of flak for that goal today.

By all accounts he was poor against Stoke though, but let's judge him over the course of a season or more - if he can stay clear of injury that long.

Said that before in this thread, he's also "better then VDS".

Me too. Someone tried to argue the toss with me about it. Can't remember who now though.

Pointless argument really. He's always picking up injuries.

At least it will put paid to any tiny chance we had of going for him.

He was a great keeper but injuries really messed up his career. Perhaps a quiet move back to Scotland or down a rung or two in England is what he needs. A pity.

Rangers Newco :D

It's a shame what happened to him. He was an excellent keeper and had he stayed injury free he could've made a move to a bigger club than Sunderland. Not to us as I don't think he was that good, but to a team like Spurs for example maybe.

On ability alone he'd be a good signing for over half of the PL teams. But you can't buy a guy as first choice keeper when you know he'll miss half of your games.

Never seen a better scottish keeper, he has 40 caps and i can barely remember anything but outstanding performances. At one stage i thought he'd be world class, a real shame about his injuries.

Goram was one of the best in the world at one point!

If the rumours about AVB wanting two GKs are true then I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Spurs

This. Very good keeper, very consistant with hardly any major mistakes, but as said. injuries have severly stunted his growth as a top keeper.

So Britain's second most expensive goalie after Dave De Gea is now supposedly the second choice keep for Dumbarton in the Scottish first div.

Damn!
