Craig Gordon

I appreciate your sentiments Wizard. I think Gordon will go on and become a top top keeper once he has established the consitency you speak of.

He was actually just finding his best form before Defoe put the boot in and now he's back from injury and had a few games has turned in 3 motm performances in his last 4/5 games.

Injuries and unsettled backlines have been his burdon so far but with the more stable defense his return from injury has coincided with Sunderlands upturn in results. Saved them from 3 defeats or at least 2 in his last few games which is exceptional.

Even the likes of Casillas will make mistakes when his backline is constantly exposed and unsettled and i still think he's a fantastic keeper. Every keeper will have a howler or let in the odd soft goal but i really think in say two years time if Gordon isn't signed by United you'll wish he was (if you dont get a world class keeper to replace VDS) and if he is you will all be happy even if the price is £10m+.

Spot on and that's three outstanding performances from him in a row now.

He needs to stay fit. He's had a shed load of injuries since joining Sunderland.

Another outstanding performance against Villa apparently.

I hope i'm not wrong, i'd like to see him get the credit he deserves because in all honesty i think he's World Class. At least he has been for scotland and i mean that because we'd be nothing (not that we are anything anyway) without him. We could never have beaten france twice or ran italy close and the stats for us with gordon and without him are astonishing in terms of goals conceided.

And this is not just a case of him being a shot stopper. He is a class act in goals for us, calm as anything and never looks flustered. As well as being a great shot stopper he is brilliant at one on ones.

A very good appraisal FV. Gordon is probably one of the most consistent keepers out there; makes very few mistakes - in fact I'd probably put a few bob on him having made the least (if its possible to stat this) this season; his concentration is excellent; his shotstopping is top drawer; his length give him advantages over Reina, Given and other short-arses; his one-on-ones are reminiscent of Schmiechel; he's a sound lad too; his kicking has improved leaps and bounds playing with the Mackems - Jones being the target; a lot of top level experience now despite the injuries.

yes, the going for crosses/command of the area is the weak spot but as he did with Hearts, there was a general understanding that unless it was six-yard box or near it was defenders ball (Berra, Pressley mopped up well) - when you combine this with his skillset (length, positioning and reactions) and the way the ball flies these days, its worked very well. Probably best keeper seen at Tynecastle in 30 yrs anyway, and that includes Niemi at his best. (A picture of him I took at Tynie a few yrs ago came up on my screen-saver yesterday and it was quite apparent that he had bulked up a fair bit).

He really is class, though for many reasons (as has been the case at the SoL and on sunderland mesage boards) he'll unlikely be given the Benefit of the doubt by many fans. We always felt he'd end up at a big club.

FV: I have no axe to grind at all here but to suggest that Gordon is currently better than VDS is a bit silly. The guy has a proven track record and shows no sign of deterioration - yet. Gordon still has to convince us of his worth. The potential is there but that's all it is just yet. Let's see him maintain top quality consistency in continuous high pressure games for a bit longer before going overboard......and it's not fans making the decisions. That's why he's at Sunderland and not United or l'arse despite both needing a decent keeper for the near future/the immediate future.

He may be the "talk of the toun playing in maroon" or red & white stripes for that matter, but let's settle down a bit eh?

i'm not disagreeing. I feel he'll maintain his current form and prove himself to doubters. My point about VDS is that he is on the decline. Not saying he's still not a very good keeper but at his age he cant go on forever and with injuries etc i dont think he's quite at the top level anymore.

Have you seen our game against Bolton? There have been no signs of decline since he's been with us. Actually, I wouldn't be suprised if he goes beyond the next season.

I don't rate Gordon at all. He has been underwhelming at Sunderland to say the least. Sure even when he's fit, he is not guaranteed a place there.

Not quite sure where you heard that? Just about everytime he's come back from injury he's been brought straight back in, even though Fulop is decent but Gordon is just about guaranteed a place here.

I have seen a few Sunderland games in which he has been on the bench. If he's on the bench, he's fit to play. Another keeper was obviously preferred. I'm not just talking about this season by the way.

He had the occasional spell on the bench during his first couple of seasons at Sunderland. It was as much a reflection of a young keeper bedding into the Premiership as much as anything else. These days it's pretty clear he's number one.

Worth a go now? Would say he's better than PIG at the very least and I believe could still be a very good keeper.

But we don't need to replace PIG. I'd doubt if he's good enough for us if he cant get in the Sunderland team.

Minolet has played very well, so it would have been remiss to drop him. I still think Gordon is very good keeper, perhaps a good shout for Arsenal.

Perma crock.

Yeah, the major problem. But his recent injuries have been unlucky, like broken arms and stuff, not necessarily suggesting he is still injury prone.

Gordon's at the right level, the Belgian midget was very brave and pretty good.

Its just there's been a fair amount of speculation that PIG could leave in the summer if he's not number 1 and now could be a good time to replace him with Gordon as he could be cut price due to not being in the Sunderland team.

I would say Gordon's better, and has the potential to be a lot better, but that's up to debate. I think another one we should be looking at is Wayne Hennessey.

Yes he is. He's always picking up injuries.

The injuries he's picked up since he joined Sunderland have been relatively long term - 2 broken arms (1 the direct fault of Jermaine Defoe) and the other was an ankle ligament problem.

Hardly injury prone, it's not as if he plays 1 or 2 matches then picks up a knock and is out for 6 weeks like other players around.

He's been very unlucky, everytime he looks like establishing himself as one of the very best in the prem he has gotten injured. Before his recent arm break he was probably in the best form of any keeper in the top flight.

he is at a good age and has a great temprement, he's a top keeper and Bruce/Sunderland know that. They probably don't want to rush him back.

Regardless what the injuries are or how they're picked up, they're still injuries and has spent a large portion of his time at Sunderland injured.

Until he can maintain a long period of fitness and form then I don't see how anyone could consider the thought of bringing him here.

He's pretty poor on crosses from what I've seen. If we're going to spend a fortune on a keeper it should be on someone who doesn't have any glaring weaknesses or at least someone young enough to iron those issues out.

How many #1 targets have we had?
De Gea, Adler, Neuer, Lloris, Akinfeev, Cesar. We've even been linked to iker and reina and now Gordon

They are bound to get something right if they link us to every player in the world. Another BS story ...

Got a feeling Fergie may end up going for Gordon, simply because he has PL experience and that he is a decent keeper.

Gordon has fantastic reflexes and shot-stopping ability, but is this enough for him to be a Manchester United #1? I don't think so.

Reina would be ideal, but he isn't a possibility.

I think he is a very promising keeper who would absolutely grow into the Man utd job under Fergie. I would be very happy to see him come to us, he is going to become one of the worlds best over the next few years.
