Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

Do Utd still have to play the 2nd leg, or is 5-0 a big enough lead to presume the tie is over?
I've been wondering this but assume it should still be played.

However, I'd like some common sense to prevail and allow either:

1) United forfeit the game to a 2- or 3-0 loss and still progress.
2) Both sides agree to field more youthful teams to gain experience.
3) Both sides agree to a draw.

Regardless, if the game is played I'm sure we'd play some squad players at least as we aren't losing 0-5.

You need to learn to read as the example I replied to said exactly the opposite and that the rules would change from no fans at the start to fans later on.

Come on fella. Open your eyes.

"I'm content with Liverpool being crowned champions. I take it you will be questioning the integrity of the sport next season as well considering at least half of the season will be played without fans."

And this was your response

"No. Because the season will start and finish with the same rules. If you can't see the difference then you're beyond help."

As you can clearly see from my post I said the season will be played without fans for half a season. This obviously means the other half of the season will be played with fans!!

Now lets look at RobinLFC's post below:

Although the chance is quite realistic that we'll start the new season without fans and will see a (gradual) increase of fans over the course of the season. Does that mean the entire 20/21 season is already compromised before it's started then?

And this was your response

"Yes"

Now remind me who needs to learn to read again you, joker? Last week you didn't think the league would be compromised despite me saying that half of the season will be played without fans, however less than a week later, you've now said the exact opposite when RobinLFC clearly states the new season will start without fans and then they will be an increase of fans. Like I said, at least be consistent and don't contradict yourself!!!

One thing where people were getting carried away were thinking pretty much all out of contract players were just going to walk out of their clubs on July 1st. Just seen all the out of contract ones at Bournemouth bar Ryan Fraser are all signing short term deals, Lallana also signing one (although he just wants a medal) and Ben Foster signed a new two year deal at Watford the other day. It's the sensible thing to do. Not sure what the situation is on loans though, guess it's just up to the two clubs to sort out.
Wouldn't he get a medal either way since he was part of the squad for a sufficient number of games? Don't players who played up to January and then leave still get a medal? Don't know about these things tbh.

But yeah, agreed that most players would indeed sign these short-term extensions especially if there's no bad blood between them and their club. Will be interesting to see what Chelsea's players do but can't imagine too many problems with that either.

Not sure you've really engaged your brain with this one. Let me break it down for you so you understand;

If the season starts and finishes with the same rules - no issues

If it starts with one set of rules and finishes with other ones - issues with credibility

Hope that's clear enough for you!

My brain is fully engaged thank you. The bottom line is you completely contradicted yourself and my previous post prove this. Bang to rights. My post about the season being played without fans for a part of the season was no different to RobinLFC's post about the same thing, yet you clearly said the integrity of the sport wouldn't be questioned when you responded to my post last week but said the exact opposite when you responded to RobinLFC. It's there for all to see.

So this sentence should, in you opinion, rebut this ?? :

""Tell that to all those who lost someone.
Those people talking about safety are not wrong.
Take a walk to a hospital and ask what doctors think.
I am more suprised about those who say ”let us play, who cares about people in general”

Some people have got their priorities upside down. :(

Most doctors I know are fine with EPL resuming, one doctor even made the point that deaths in past 4 weeks are lower than an average January, yet we don't shut football down every January.

When we talk about risk, it has to be looked at logically.

A lot of people seem to think oh because my gym isn't open it must mean BCD football is too dangerous, they think opening a public gym is the same as a behind closed doors outside football game under lab safety conditions.

Do Utd still have to play the 2nd leg, or is 5-0 a big enough lead to presume the tie is over?

It'd be amazing if they scrapped that second leg, as it'd send out a dodgy precedent.

We'll just have to manage it through with squaddies who need a game and give some youngsters experience.

It seems you are hallucinating. Anyway I've cleared it up for you now so you understand how things work and the reasons why your league title win will have been compromised this season. Thank me later ;)

Question for you guys. I live in New Zealand. I know crowd noise for the premier league is being added to the sky sports broadcast in the UK. Is the crowd noise being added to the overseas premier league broadcast. I have been watching la liga and the crowd noise makes it a much more enjoyable experience to watch. Bundesliga wasn't as enjoyable due to nothing being added like crowd noise etc. Bundesliga felt like a training match in comparison.

Good grief. No, it seems you're struggling to see the clear contradiction in the posts I highlighted. Enjoy your day.

Liverpool aren't being crowned champions with a 25 point lead and 9 games to play because "they haven't won it yet". Whilst improbable, a 5-0 lead being overtaken in 90mins is more realistic than Liverpool being pipped to the title. All ties should be completed however that should happen or the competition declared null and void.

Personally, I want to see all tournaments finished as soon as possible so that we can get next season organised and started with everyone qualifying for everything properly.

One good thing about the PL resuming is that most (all?) the resident dippers will be banned and the forum back to Utd and other, less annoying other teams' fans.

Enjoy your time scousers! Few games and you're off :)

No integrity is left in the sport.

I'm still in the Last Man Standing so I hope that I get to finish that before being kicked out (presuming I make it that far) :)

I reckon crossing the line is going to be problematic for you dippers. Starting next weekend when Everton give you a good seeing to in the Merseyside derby.

You'll be around for a while yet.

It actually wouldn't surprise me. We never do things the easy way. 30 years and on the verge, then coronavirus hits. Now, Pickford and Co will no doubt play an absolute blinder against us and then the wait will go on!

At this stage though, I don't care if we secure it on the first day or the last, just as long as we do! Beating City's 100 points total would be nice but all that matters is that we get the title sewn up.

I’ve only seen BL matches and each one has crowd noise. It’s added in the studio afaik, so whoever’s covering the BL for you is the issue.

What’s the protocol? Is there any danger of our game being off?

Spurs players get tested and if they come back negative they’re free to train and play. I’m not sure how accurate these tests are in terms of catching the virus early though. It would be interesting to more about that.

What’s the protocol? Is there any danger of our game being off?
Self isolation for now. In the next batch of tests if any Spurs players test positive, the squad isolate for 14 days, so they'll have to postpone out game.

The player goes into 7 days isolation, and then gets tested and if negative he can train away from the main group for a further 7 days and then join up again. Unless this one player is a proverbial super spreader and has infected lots of Spurs players (highly unlikely) then your game will go ahead. The PL tests to date have shown 14 positives and 7,474 negatives - very encouraging figures

I still can't see how these games are gonna go ahead with players testing positive. I see the Sky Sports adverts for the games, but I can't help thinking they are a little premature.

I thought the testing was supposed to stop anyone playing a game whilst they had it. Why were they playing on Friday, if they were tested on Thursday and the results obviously don't come in until Saturday?

Nobody will care because it's just Norwich, but where does this leave the integrity of the competition if 3 or 4 first team players have it now? I don't get how you can treat it the same is injuries, they're not infectious (unless you're a Man United centre back).

Where are you getting this information? I could be wrong, but I think you’re miles off.

If a Spurs player tests positive then all Spurs do is isolate said individual and claim that he was not within two metres of the others for a period of fifteen metres. The guidance on isolation is easily bypassed, to be frank. If there are widespread positives within the squad then that becomes an issue; it’s also very unlikely unless social distancing guidance wasn’t being followed within indoor environments.

You're right I went to check the PL guidance and protocol for Covid and that's the case. In fact Spurs recently(about 2 weeks ago I think) had a player or stuff member who tested positive and they only isolated him and followed the guidelines about Covid prevention and they haven't tested any positive since then which means the risk of infection spreading are very low if protocols are followed. Which also lead me to believe this Norwich player is unlikely to have spread the virus to any Spurs players, especially since he claimed he wasn't in close contact with any of them.

Let's see what the next batch of results show but the spread is unlikely if they'd been following the guidance lay down for spread prevention. Tottenham recently had a player/stuff tested positive(after contact training was already allowed), they isolated him and followed the guidelines given by the PL and haven't tested positive since then after subsequent tests. So wild spread is very unlikely provided they followed protocol.

The response from the EPL and broadcasters clearly show where the priorities lie!! (Think Abba may have sung about it)

There does not appear to be a dispute that the player testing positive played on Friday against Spurs and unless this was a socially distanced game, how the hell did it only end up as 2-1 to Norwich.

Clearly this was not the case so the player must have had multiple very close contacts with his own and opposing players breathing excessively, sweating and all other manners of transfers of the virus being possible, considering that you can not try on clothes in shops and books and such look will have to be disinfected if touched by a members of the public.

The incubation period for the virus is on average 5-6 days but can be up to and including 14 days, so can someone explain how Norwich and Spurs can legitimately play a competitive match within the next 6 days

Hopefully, but yes if they followed protocol. Suspicions in the Norwich camp that they travelled down by coach. Not that anybody knows, but seems hard to believe all the players drove down to London separately.

At least every single team in the league will get the behind closed doors treatment rather than a club who usually gets it when punished for crowd trouble. Think I'd be much more annoyed if looking at past incidents we had similar case to Boro 96/97 when they went down because they had 3 points taken off for not playing at Blackburn due to the flu and also Sheffield United going down because West Ham spectacularly cheated the system.

What's this about? I'm genuinely asking and interested.

Youd think the whole spurs and norwich teams would self isolate for at least 3 or 4 days until they all get restested and the results back.

Not isolating at all seems careless at best and reckless at worse

Tevez given he scored all the winning goals for them in their 6-7 wins in last 9 (I think) and 3rd party ownership of players wasn't allowed under premier league rules.

West Ham were fined 5m. I don't think any other club has ever come close to being fined that amount for a single offence (perhaps Chelsea in one of their transfer bans?) so that showed the culpability but the premier league bottled docking them any points unlike with Boro a decade before.

There are protocols and guidelines to follow in this case and entire squad isolation and quarantine only happens in case of wild spread. For now only the player who has tested positive will be isolated while the rest of the group just keep up with the usual guidelines.

Spurs already had a player/stuff infected a few weeks back(and they were already doing contact training) and they only isolated him then followed the guidelines. And they haven't returned any positive results since then which means the guidelines put forth by the PL are working, so I don't see why they should be called reckless now. The chances of a wild spread are very unlikely given the protocols put in place which teams have been following.
