Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

Stay home; that doesn't mean close. That depends on how people interact, in this instance you're creating another place for close contact that didn't exist.
I get you don't want football to restart for some reason but you need to come up with better arguments than you are doing. If millions of people stay at home to watch football instead of making extra shopping trips because they're bored or going to the same parks and beauty spots as everyone else, and we've seen the lack of social distancing there, then there will be less opportunity to bring the virus into the house in the first place.

What’s happening with the promotion from the National League if no-one is going down from League 2?

So sitting at home and watching the telly with your family doesn't exist until they bring football back?

Your belief about me are exactly that, just your beliefs. You seem to be discussing unplanned and unauthorised activity, and basing that for justification for authorised activity. While limiting you proposition for unplanned and unauthorised vs authorised activity as either or, and without considering as well as.

Whether as, I'm discussing authorised activity, anything outside of authorised is at a persons own risk.

Again you're missing the point, it's added.

Not that the poll matters or should even be used but who exactly were they asking?
Was it football fans or just general members of the public. I suspect it’s the latter which would then make that poll completely irrelevant.
Surely the opinion of the 'general public' matters a lot more than a few football supporters?

Is the prem going to have to introduce a multi ball system? If they kick the ball into the stands there’s no one to throw it back.

Wouldn't change or final position as compared to PPG, we'd still be fifth. The difference would be Spurs & Arsenal swapping places plus West Ham dropping into the relegation zone instead of Bournemouth.
I'll be happy with the Wet Sham, Bournemouth scenario but I just hope Saints have got more away fixtures then home one's.
Our home form is terrible this season!
Just checked, 4home and 5 away so we could be safe!

This empty stadium thing until next year will be tough. And tbh, I’m not sure it will hold for that long either, unless numbers start rising.

As usual, football made out to be the scourge of society, but if everything else is open by August, including packed trains, tubes, supermarkets and the rest - then I see no reason for this ongoing demonisation of football(ers). The images of public transport are no worse than a stadium, and the country hasn’t even really got going yet.

I think even if they don’t allow full stadiums, I think a compromise of reduced capacity isn’t the worst idea. That would at least increase some of the integrity in the game, and I think an Old Trafford with 15-20k fans can be done safely in theory, with nearly 80k seats available.

Sitting apart in a stadium is easy.
But fans tend to flood in and out at the same time to pinchpoint locations like doorways steps and toilets. That's before you consider packed trams etc.

Unless you have monumental queues for every single procedure even trimming numbers to 20,000 isn't enough.

I expect it to be more challenging than normal for sure, but not insurmountable. In theory, we manage to get 80k into the stadium within the space of an hour and a half under normal circumstances. Getting 20k into the same stadium in that same hour and a half or whatever can probably be done in a relatively safe way.

Packed teams etc I here, but that argument starts losing validity if the teams are packed Monday to Friday anyway with people living their lives, apart from the nation’s urge to want to point out every day how little football matters. Current proposals basically have most sectors opening by August, which means that in reality, social distancing will be near enough out of the window by then anyway. I think a reduced capacity stadium with Police and stewards ensuring people don’t stream in and out on top of each other could just about be done. I also think PPE, particula

Again, it will become less and less valid by September if we keep insisting people can’t come stream through the turnstiles at a stadium only, yet they can stream through the turnstiles at Kings Cross and Liverpool Street every day in similar proximity.

Just seems to me that it will make a lot of people feel better if footballers are the absolute last people to get back to normal in this country, because as we know, they have a few quid and what they want matters less than everyone else in the country.

Of course, if the numbers start going up again then forget this.

With leagues starting again around Europe I'm mainly interested in seeing how the various FAs will handle a situation where one or more players are tested positive.
It's gonna be a proper shit show if games are postponed here and there with the timeframe available.

Will they not require the players to be in quarantine whilst finishing the season? Surely the best course would be to have the players all together for 4 weeks rattling off the games as quickly as possible, all staying together and not coming into contact with anyone on the outside similar to a World Cup. I’m sure I was reading about Germany and that’s what they were doing? The manager got in trouble for heading out to buy a toothbrush or something?

Otherwise a situation where one player catches it and then others in the team do would be inevitable. Then how on earth do they deal with that?

Rules from Germany are just for people so they think everything is in controll. If you watched games yesterday you could see that they could break them and football is saying no ban to players. They can afford 2-3 getting ban so they can say: look they get banned. But they are looking through the fingers. In Italy it is same. Protocoll said that if one player from a club (Parma yesterday) get a positive test, the whole squad will be in 14-days quarantine. But their squad is training as normal.

I’m sorry but to finish PL in four weeks with TheFA cup and European Games (including 14-day quarantine after away games) is impossible if it is done by the book. You are looking at least 2-3 months if you would go to final in EL/CL and the FA.

For those who are firmly against it what do you want? To void it or decide it on merit? Don't you also think there's still value in attempting a restart even if it fails? I actually think the whole thing has a high probability of collapsing at some point and the lessons learned now will go a long way to help next season. If we can't get through 9 games now how are we to get through 38 games next season?

Curtail it. There won’t be any Euopean football next season so no worries about those spots. Freeze relegation and promotion so compensate those still in with a chance of promotion. Give Liverpool a consolatory League Leaders trophy and medals for their efforts and recognition that they probably would have been champions.

A few German state PMs are saying they are planning to allow fans back into the stadium in the new season. I enjoyed watching the games yesterday but obviously there is something missing so that would be great news.

I can actually see Liverpool winning the PL but not actually lifting it due to there being a lack of fans. (Why would they want to lift it in an empty stadium?)

Instead, I can see Liverpook taking the PL trophy to all home and away games next season to compensate.

Don't what the situation is like in Germany with regards to public transport in big cities & people adhering to the 2m rule. But in London this week a lot of people returned to work & the public transport was heavily populated during the rush hour periods. Unless there's a massive spike in new cases of covid-19, or an increase in deaths via a 2nd wave, I think the authorities would struggle to insist that football continues to be played behind closed doors for a significant period of time.

So why did you write "There won't be any European football" instead of "There probably won't", "Possibly won't", "I think there won't" or something similar?

It is absolutely ludicrous to not worry about European spots as UEFA will attempt everything possible for the competition to go ahead.

I think UK did the same for a short period of time before they changed the way. On other hand I understand. It's 50+m people i UK while Sweden have 10m. I don't know any other country right now that had recommendations instead of rules as Sweden. And I think it is to soon to judge Sweden for taking this approach even if I would have gone with lockdown from first day.

You can understand why any leader would go for the full lockdown option. It's initially safer for the population, & it's much safer from a political point of view. Putting the people first is always a favourable move. It remains to be seen though if lockdowns actually prevent deaths or just simply delay them.

Accept this as my formal apology for my sloppy use of the English language.

I want to get back into the ground but I don't really want to go back if we are all sitting 2m apart, might as well sit at home if that's the case.

Think I posted my thoughts on this in another thread recently but I think it's going to be no away fans, no standing areas, 1.5 m distance between seats and masks. You cannot go from 0 to 100 even with low infection numbers. On the other hand, we have already allowed outdoor concerts with up 1000 people again so some form of reopening stadia can't be too far away.

Real let off for Stevenage, who have been utter garbage all season.

PPG or weighted doesn't really make too much odds in league 2 I believe.

It's league 1 where it seem to be the massive issue - whether you promote the 3rd team (Wycombe v Oxford), or who gets into the playoffs (Peterboro v Portsmouth)

The Peterborough owner has tried to strongarm the league by setting up a gang of 6 up - unsurprisingly teams all with a stake in not wanting it to finish as they think they can do better than where they currently sit - especially Sunderland and Ipswich who wouldn't get near the playoffs any which way it's split. And obviously Peterborough who probably think they should be sat in 1st.

Not necessarily going to be weighted though.

How can they relegage league 1 teams but not league 2 teams?

They dont have a leg to stand on then if the PL decided to hold firm and say no relegation because the efl have done it themeselves

Well I never. Didn't see that coming. :wenger:

Not aimed at you obviously. :)
Can this guy be blocked @Damien

Again, the majority of utd fans had no issues with you being given the league if they sorted relegation.

What we took issue with was yous saying who cares ahout relegation, giving us the league is the easy thing to do.

You couldnt do one without the other

One interesting thing is that this has surely secured Ole's position for another season.

I think the opposite. We were in good form. If the league starts and we are as poor as the first half of the season we might pull the trigger.

Good point, I hadn't really considered the league finishing when I posted this. I almost feel as if they'll end up with a play-off system of some kind for the teams who could have hit particularly qualifications or been relegated. But presumably the season must end.

I don't see the team being poor again mind.

I hope we aren't. But we have been poor most of the time other than two patches of good form.

On the flip side if Pogba and Bruno settle together that would be something to see.

I watched the Dortmund game yesterday and it was like watching a pre season friendly.

Bar in the fact that a lot of games would be dead rubbers, I’m not convinced I’d be that interested in watching the games if it comes back. Just doesn’t feel real.

There is a little bit of sway as Bury folded leaving one spare place. But it doesn't sit right. Although it does swerve how you deal with Macclesfield and Stevenage both being crap and separated by one game in hand and a mere 3 point difference.
Plus how to sort the conference playoff zone into a winner.
