Cop in America doing a bad job, again

I'm with @villain there. Hard to see anything else there than an attempt on posthumous character assassination.

The sole talking point about Sterling in this thread should be if him being shot to death was legally and morally defensible. (As much as I hate this diction and the logic behind it.) So Sterling's behaviour in that situation, and that of the cops. Any info on crime perpetrated by family members is irrelevant for the topic and the incident, and the only purpose I can make out is the one mentioned above. Or could someone point me to another one?

My argument was in part against that. What's the connection of Sterling's son's actions to the thread topic?
That the guy saw an article about the son of someone discussed for pages on here and posted it in the thread where the guy was talked about for pages...?

It’s pretty self explanatory.

Was Alton Sterling as a person talked about for pages, or in his role as the victim of a shooting?

So if I posted the Beyonce video which features the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown etc - that would be relevant too?
Seeing as they the mothers of people who have been discussed for pages in here.

I already told you, if you thought it was off topic, report it.

Instead you took it on yourself to attack the poster, which ironically enough, is something else you’re not supposed to do.

I said it revealed his intentions behind his posts, I didn't attack him, personally. Just his posts in here.
I didn't even call him a racist, which he seems to have taken it upon himself to believe I did, because he thought I said he had 'revealed himself', when I actually said he 'revealed it himself' (it being his intentions)
Not once did I insult him, or attack him.

I didn't bother reporting it, because as a staff member you said you found no issue with it - and even said I was overreacting, and it says more about me than Skizzo, so what motivation do I have to report his post?

I can still call him out for it, and at least i'm not the only one who sees it for what it is.

Can't even say I'm surprised, I often take shots at the PO is this thread because of how one sided they seem to view this thread (in my perception)... But what a suspect post.

What was the reasoning behind it? What am I missing?

You might be overreacting just a bit.
Not really... No.

@Synco @Grinner @afrocentricity @villain

As I said before, I explained my reason for the post. If it was misplaced, as I said, I apologize and will delete it if it should be. I can own a mistake if it was poorly linked, as it appears to be. I came across the article and thought the connection warranted a post here, and that was it. Anyway, already broken my promise to not post again, just wanted to make sure I could apologize for the error to those who were offended.

Happy holidays :)

The proliferation of video technology and social media has led to local stories of dog shootings going viral and ricocheting around the country. There's a whole category of stories on Reason's website called "puppycide." For example, there was the time last year that a Louisiana cop shot a 12-pound dog and then allegedly told the family it was a "shame" he "had to waste that bullet because it's a really expensive bullet." Or the NYPD officer who shot a woman's dog seconds after it slipped through the door and walked toward him wagging its tail. Or the Oklahoma cop who used a high-power rifle to shoot a dog through a fence during a five-year-old's birthday party. Or there was the time in 2012 that a SWAT team in St. Paul executed a wrong-door raid, shot the family dog, and then allegedly forced three handcuffed children to sit next to their dead pet.

well done to the police

I can't watch them though I just saw on FB the small dog being shot in Arkansas.

My two Belgian Mal mixes are literally like my best friends, part of my immediate family, and the one, Jimmy, has defended me against perceived threats when out walking/hiking. I'd likely snap if someone shot him. He's super friendly and gets excited but in no way menacing other than he weighs about 50lbs and looks like a true Mal.

I have a niece who has joined the police down in London. She was telling me how she raided a house and an officer threw a dog over a fourth floor balcony. She acted like it was funny..

Any copper who shot my boy would need to go Into hiding for the rest of his days

that pig jason van dyke of the chicago police department was sentenced to possibly as little as 4 years for murdering a child on camera.

multiple other pigs lied in police reports, they were later proven to be lying pieces of shit who cover up murder when police dash cam footage was released.

police in this country murder civilians all the same and they lie and they cover it up and they rarely face any consequences even when it is on videotape. and even when they are convicted, it is to light sentences.

never trust a cop

How is the education to become a police officer in the US?
All you need at minimum to apply is a high school diploma or equivalent (g.e.d) and 20.5 years of age. It may be different for other states but i imagine it's similar. Of course nowadays there's just so much competition for law enforcement jobs one would need some type of degree to be considered.

Is it different by county/city as well?

Also, what about standards for prison guards? I've seen a few obese PGs in a friend's pics (he's a Sheriff Deputy PG).
Each department has different physical agility tests. When I was applying for police jobs I went to several physical tests for different departments and they were slightly varied. Some easier than others.
I'm not sure about prison guards. If they're sworn sheriffs deputies they should have gone through a normal application process and academy training (with all the physical stuff). But again, afterwards there are no tests or fitness standards so it happens a lot in prison settings.
