Cop in America doing a bad job, again

Not related to cops in America, but the Dutch police are trying to get a bill passed that lowers the penalty for cops who use excessive force.

Now they can get 15 years for attempted manslaughter. They want to change it to “schenden van de ambtsinstructie” translating roughly to erm, not doing what’s in your job description. The max sentence would be 3 years.

This means cops will somewhat officially become above the law.

Worrying stuff.

Do Dutch rozzers beat people up?
It’s not very common, but a few years back a black man died after a very rough arrest. Nearly happened again this year.

It’s not systemic though. Cops have relatively little rights here. They can’t even search you without a good reason.

We have that in our constitution, too. Just remember that “unreasonable” can be highly subjective.
True, but if a cop in Holland does the things you see in this thread they will practically be beheaded.

The bad ones over here are mostly just petty or annoyingly authorative.

Interestingly enough, we don’t do that.

In all seriousness though, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure is in our Bill of Rights.

The courts need to get more serious about how “unreasonable” is defined to reel the police in a bit.

I’ve actually been on the receiving end of a rather physical arrest when I was younger (nothing major we were drunk and loud and I pushes one of em, they don’t like that). They didnt use too much force though. One guy sat on top of me while another one cuffed me. I was actually kind of laughing saying what the feck, this is so wierd, I’ll come willingly you meanies.

They were friendly enough to bring me breakfast in the morning and gave me ride to where I left my bike the night before.

That’s just one account though and Im an agreable guy so meh.

Jesus feck these thugs are stupid.

A massive Napoleon complex with a gun, that won’t end well for someone. Interesting that he was the only cop who pulled his weapon, it’s almost as if the other cops were not paying any attention to him as if they expected it / seen it before.

Looks like another instance where the cop hiring process might have let the community down.

Literally stories every day, sometimes multiple stories every day.

I can't tell if it's becoming more common, or if social media is just making these things transparent.

It’s sickening watching/reading some of these stories. Part of me wants the thread closed but only after we agree that something is seriously wrong with US law enforcement when it’s failing to take these rogue coppers to task for failing to protect & serve.

Like a darkness has been unleashed on the country.

There’s a thread there if you click on it. How do you possibly get away with that?

I don't think you can say they are just rogue when it's so clear how systematic it all is.

It’s systematic but socially media certainly makes it look worse than it is. American law enforcement employ 1.1m people, that’s more than the population of Birmingham (UK) or nearly 3x the population of the Bahamas. There’s going to be daily instances.

America is royally fecked up. It doesn’t surprise me that cops are jumpy or trained to act aggressively when you consider the ease in which it is to purchase a gun, and the percentage of civilians that actually do own one. It also doesn’t surprise me that civilians are as wary of police as they are, when you consider how they are trained. There’s a complete break down in trust and it’s only going to get worse.

I got home from Europe last night. This morning I heard gunshots somewhere in the neighbourhood, three separate times, so I called 911. A quick return to reality for me.

Terrible police work. It shouldn't take four of them to handle one argumentative person. One cop should do the trick. Someone also apparently wound up getting their ponytail cut off in the fracas.

A few hours is all it took to shoot a 17 year old in the back.

The departmental hiring processes need to be completely revamped to keep out those who are predisposed to acts like the police cited in this thread. It’s not just the job that brings such actions out, there is a common mindset that these lunatics possess and see police work as a way to satisfy urges.

just imagine how often shit like this goes on when its not on camera

And the police union is reportedly appealing. Now, I'm big on unions, unions are good, but the American police unions clearly need to just go away and never come back.

The coroner in the Eric Gardner case ruled his death a homicide. The head of the union went on tv and said it was a textbook arrest even though cops are told not to use a choke hold to subdue. Behind the bullshit they operate like a criminal organization.

I know that an automatic appeal is typical in almost every case, but what is the police union's argument against the idiot being fired?

This is a pretty lengthy video but shows just how bad policing has become in America.

They love their intimidation tactics.
