something police in mumbai are known for - beating up street vendors and homeless people, tossing out their property. used to happen a lot near my house. it was a corrupt thing all the way - most cops took a daily/weekly bribe and looked the other way, other times a local politician would warn the vendors if a raid was coming and they'd hide their stuff. but when the municipal govt wanted, they would do the violent raid and make the carts and stoves unuseable, lying in a heap on the pavement which they were supposedly clearing.

A problem in some of those videos is doubling-down on everything. The one on the bench on the railway station shows exactly this. He's ashamed to repeat the actual reason because he knows it's ridiculous. In life you make mistakes, you reevaluate and you change. Some of these cops are aware of how pernickety they're being but they'll never admit to any sort of lapse in judgement.

Their training has too many militaristic elements to it and many of them are ex-military. They see people as the enemy.
