Do you think a manager can just come in and make whatever players he inherits (mostly shite in Arteta's case) play his style of football immediately?

Go and watch the game vs Utd again, and read the match thread. The best team doesn't always win, that's life. Do you even watch football? ;)

Losing Kulusevski has been a huge blow and it shows how much more work is required in the squad because we really do not have anybody else in the squad with a similar skill set to him, so when he is out it has a massive impact.

I've always felt that Conte's teams are in a constant rebuilding state - constant player churn.

This isn't really anything to do with Conte though - whoever the manager was would have to rebuild the squad - Poch said as much in his last season 'we need a painful rebuild'

I still think Ronaldo is to ETH what PEA was to Arteta and ETH needs to get rid of Ronaldo to truly establish himself as in control.

Plenty on here and elsewhere were telling us it was boring as well. There were Arsenal fans on here calling out our style of play as well, most saying if we wanted to get to the next level that had to improve, some were even calling it shocking and wanted Arteta gone.

I'm not sure I'm getting your reasoning here, because we lost 1 game vs Utd we can't voice our opinion? Yet it's fine for Utd fans to voice an opinion?
 
Guardiola perennially underachieving with the most expensive, deep and talented squad ever is a revolutionary ‘league specialist’. Conte perennially overachieving with half-baked squads from 10-euros restaurants is a boring ‘CL failure’. Am I doing well, right? :drool:

I know you're jesting but I've thought for quite some time that his inability to rotate is by far his biggest weakness. It's half the reason why City are dominant - a deep squad and rotation. Spurs do have some injuries but players like Bissouma, Sessegnon and Spence have to play at least one of the 2 games they've had in 3 days, at a certain point fresh legs matters more.

Bissouma picked up a knock over the international break and Doherty is still not fully fit after a ruptured knee ligament injury he got at the tail end of last season. We have a stronger squad than we had, but we still lack some depth especially compared to the top teams.

I'm interested in your opinion. Is this all hyperbole and you are happy with the style of play you have just now? How do you see it evolving under Conte? What are your areas of weakness you think needs addressing?

You clearly didn't get my post. I never said arsenal fans can't have their opinion. I just find it funny how Arteta's football is suddenly considered expansive and brilliant based on 7 or 8 games this season while forgetting the drab he was producing for 2 and a half season. To say we don't want Conte's style is one thing but to add arteta as exciting manager is premature is my point.

Yes I have watched enough football to say you lot under Arteta played a shit football which most of the Arsenal fans themselves wanted him gone. So let us not pretend based on 8 pl games that Arteta has always been wanting to play like this. 2 and a half season is enough time given to him and he is finally clicking but one can't write those 2 and a half season off based on 8 games.

I think we can definitely improve however I am encouraged by the amount of chances we are creating - really good quality chances while also looking pretty tight at the back - the main problem we have at the moment is that Son and Kane are both in poor form and instead of putting one or two of those chances away in each match they are missing them. That is costing us a lot right now but that is not on Conte - he can only hope they regain form. I think once Bissouma is fully fit we will see some changes within games with 3 in midfield and moving to 2 up front - he may even start games this way from time to time. That will help for certain games no doubt and unfortunately we haven't really had the opportunity to do it yet apart from the Leicester match which turned the game. We also really need a player who can rotate with Kulusevski and slot in if he is unfit - Richarlison doesn't suit playing on the right so it's not working. Again this will take a transfer window to sort and I know Conte was trying to sign Zaniolo in the summer for exactly this reason.

As a Spurs fan of almost 40 years I have seen all sorts of managers come and go, some very attacking, some very defensive and we have won almost nothing. I want to win and Conte in my opinion is the best chance we have of doing that as he is without doubt the best coach we have had in the modern era. Our weakness is clearly the wing backs - particularly on the right side, that needs addressing but it's likely to take another transfer window to sort as Conte doesn't yet think Spence is ready, Emerson is not good enough and Doherty may never fully recover from what was a serious injury at his age. I'm content with the style of play as I enjoy the tactical side of things and I can clearly see what Conte is trying to achieve with the players he has. I don't really care if we are very attacking or very defensive as long as we get success.

I'd disagree it was 2 and a half years of drab football. There were clear signs of how Arteta wanted Arsenal to play and evolve to last season, it just wasn't consistent enough and suffered greatly through lack of squad depth when his first choice team wasn't available. It was commented on here a few times by Utd fans when we were on our runs that you could see a style of how he wanted to play and what he was trying to do.

Good honest reply. I think we all prefer expansive attacking football, but we all want to win as well. As long as Conte can get success I'd imagine that's all Spurs fans care about in the end, and as someone who started liking Arsenal during the George Graham 1-0 to the Arsenal era, I don't want to be a hypocrite about Spurs. My only point is just that I think to achieve success, it will need to evolve, and again the doubts are about how long Conte stays around to evolve it.

It's the same way all Arsenal fans seem to have been lumped in together saying we were overly critical of how Utd beat us. Some were a bit mouthy about it, me, I think Utd did what they had to do to beat us on the day. It certainly wasn't defensive, it was clever and produced several good chances. And I'm sure they'll look to evolve under ETH further.
 
I seriously doubt Conte will be Spurs manager next season. The play is unattractive and trophies will not be amassed.

I don't really like it when they're made victims of their trophyless club career, they choose to sign big juicy new contracts knowing how hard Levy is to deal with, no one else.
 
Conte was always going to be a bad choice for Tottenham in the long run. Firstly, he’s a winner. His football isn’t pretty but it generally gets results. At Chelsea he had Kante doing the job of two midfielders which allowed Fabregas to express himself and create.

He hasn’t got this at Spurs. What about Inter, though? Serie A is having somewhat of a resurgence now but when Conte won the Scudetto a few seasons back, it wasn’t the most competitive.

Anyway, like I said - he’s a winner. And this is bad…how? Because at Spurs he hasn’t got Kante and Fabregas. He’s got Hoijberg (sp?) and some other cloggers which probably means Spurs won’t be winning anything anytime soon. No trophies = a very unhappy Antonio. And as we all know - Spurs are allergic to silverware.

Football has changed since Conte’s stint at Chelsea. My work colleague is a diehard Spurs supporter, doesn’t miss a match home or away. He hates the football they play under Conte this season. But he was happy last season as it produced results.

This is the thing with Conte’s brand of football. If you’re winning, it’s fine. But when you’re not, it’s pretty dire. His obsession with wing backs will cost him his job. Kane is too slow and doesn’t press enough to thrive in a Conte setup. These days, Son looks like a player who won a raffle to play for Spurs. Richarlison is an exciting player on his day but isn’t ever going to produce the numbers a prime Harry Kane did.

Personally, I hate watching Spurs under Conte. It’s tumescent stuff at times. We had fans saying last season that we made a mistake not getting Conte when he was free. But I was relieved when Spurs picked him up. Champions League football for one season or a long term project under Ten Hag? Of course, we can’t predict the future and Conte might win the Premier League this season and our Eric might finish 7th and get sacked.

But it wouldn’t surprise me if Conte ends up falling out with everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by the next transfer window.

Bentancur is far from being a clogger, him and Hojberg have probably been our best players so far this season. If you don't like watching Spurs then go watch other matches, nobody is forcing you to. What an unbelievably negative and ill informed post.

I don’t watch Spurs if I can help it. I just happened to be in a bar when you were playing on Wednesday night (or was it Tuesday, can’t remember?)

Conte’s Spurs are renowned for playing dreadful football. That’s hardly an ill informed post.

But if you don’t want to read negative comments about Conte and Spurs, nobody is forcing you to.
 
One of the more bizarre managerial performances you’ll ever see. Dominated for nearly 80 minutes before a sub was made. I mean if you were trying to lose you’d do something similar.
 
He plays like flat back 5s aren’t exploitable and he’s meeting Klopp for the first time. It’s a 2016 mindset and tactics.
They seem to get swept like this in most big games.
Flat formation and not playing out from the back means you’re getting pressed into oblivion.
 
Think it's time for Conte to threaten with resignation unless he can spend 200 million this winter.
 
His Inter were the same, never played great football. Good manager but too many flaws.

I guess the only positive for them from that is they have got most of the away games out of the way.

For United, the big positive is Chelsea have a hell of a lot big games remaining. If we can get a positive result when we play them next, we're in a good position for the run up to the end of the year.
 
Really glad we didn’t get in Conte (Mourinho without the European Cups.)

At least Jose is pragmatic. Conte is neither that or progressive. It’s the same, drilled dog turd every game.

I’m so happy we don’t have to watch that rubbish every week.
 
And to think so many wanted him after Ole was sacked. We’ve already slept enough through LVG and Mourinho’s drab ball.

He’ll piss off back to Italy soon enough once he inevitably falls out with Levy.
 
They're total shit and have been very, very jammy in so many of their games to have as many points as they do. Every half decent team they've played has had them on toast. We stuffed them. Arsenal stuffed them. Sporting stuffed them. Chelsea stuffed them (and they were hilariously jammy to be given a point).

Watching them today, parked with 11 behind the ball in the last minutes, while losing 2-0. :lol: I'm so glad we didn't end up with Mourinho Jr.
