Also, the atmosphere was shite. So much for McGregor fans being mental, need to take lessons from Hatton's.
The fact that McGregor had to go to boxing to make serious money tells you all you need to know. Boxing is fine.Given there were 2 or 3 title bouts on the underused of this fight that were as about exciting as watching paint dry tells you everything about boxing and where it's at right now. That's pretty much what sport boils down to, the popularity of the stars. No doubt when Lomachenko starts getting title fights that will change completely because he's exciting as you can get. Other than that boxing is going through a real dry patch when it comes to legitimate stars.

OK Conor can't be expected to sail through 12 rounds of boxing in his first fight but after 12 months of training for this his stamina was surprisingly bad. He should have been working in the gym all year in three rounds bursts with one minute intervals in everything that he did and we know he sparred extensively.
@MoneyMay
Does he carry too much muscle maybe?
Isn't that a rather naive strategy? Did they really expect to KO Floyd Mayweather in the first 4 rounds? In my opinion, nothing wrong with his stamina, it's the self management of his tank.
Regardless of how fit you are, the tank isn't limitless. So blazing in hot for four rounds, he fell off of a cliff.

I'm only a casual fan of boxing so I understand someone who is a real fan would look at it differently. But I haven't had anyone make me go watch a fight for a while. Paquiao Mayweather was the last time I went out of my way. But I can't think of anyone right now that I purposely watch other than Lomachencko. When would you say the last time was that boxing wasn't in a dry patch?
Honestly when I seen that I thought how the feck did cleverly win the belt. That was a pretty pedestrian fight. The fact that McGregor had to go to boxing to make serious money tells you all you need to know. Boxing is fine.
Also, you thought Jack beating the piss out of Cleverly was boring? Horses for courses I guess.
He was a paper champion to be fair. He retired afterwards. Probably for the best.Honestly when I seen that I thought how the feck did cleverly win the belt. That was a pretty pedestrian fight.
I agreeHence why Mayweather is always getting called out, he's the only bloody fighter that can sell out Vegas and pull in the PPV figures we've seen over the years.
The sport needs to move on from Floyd now, he's had his day and I doubt we will ever see a guy earn as much ever again. The truth be told his last ten fights have mostly been boring affairs and the majority of people have watched in the hope someone might pull off a huge shock. He's now looking his age, he wasn't fit to fight last night and he laboured to a victory against a novice.
What do you mean paper champion? Interim or something? He didn't look that good a boxer. He was a paper champion to be fair. He retired afterwards. Probably for the best.
His belt was a joke. The lineal light heavyweight champ is Adonis Stevenson. He holds the WBC title. Andre Ward holds the other belts and is generally recognised as the best in the division.I agree

Most boxers do the exact same thing and are fine for twelve rounds though. Perhaps not as much weight cut in the last week but in terms of rehydration, 16lbs is nothing spectacular. For those asking why conor got so gassed, it's really simple. There is no healthy way to gain 15lbs after a week of dehydration and it not to have an effect on stamina. If he walked around at 160, did all the cardio work, weight 154 on the night then gained a few lbs he would have been fine.

Presser on now
The girl standing around during the post fight interviews was the best thing about it. fecking hot!

Lend @Amadaeus a few quid??Won 23 quid.
Put 1 quid on 10th round stoppage at 22/1
Wish I'd put more on now.
Cheers btw. Can't post streams on here can I? I'll mail you it then these lot can ask you for it
He didn't work that hard though he only threw 430 punches in the whole fight. A volume punching boxer can throw 1000 in a fight.
Cheers btw.
Ffs, I fell asleep during the last undercard fight and missed it. How was it as a contest?
Very few boxers ever throw over 1000 punches.
This sums it up perfectly
Also, the atmosphere was shite. So much for McGregor fans being mental, need to take lessons from Hatton's.
Loads of boxers have done it including Froch, Calzaghe, Paul Williams and Nathan Cleverley. Quick look on Google says Margarito threw over 1675 in one fight against Clottey.
Cleverly vs Fonfara
Both fighters threw over 1000 in this fight

Does he gas like that in MMA fights? I've only seen the Aldo fight (not a great yard stick since it lasted 13 seconds ) and the two Diaz ones.
I fell asleep too mate, was on way too late!Cheers btw.

Can someone explain the stamina issue? Why was Conor gassed so much faster than Mayweather? Surely if there's one thing you can be as good at as your opponent it's stamina? (Compared to natural talent, experience etc)
Yeah its hard to understand why McGregor for having a bit of a mouth on him (all part of selling the fight) is seen as worse than that other woman beater.A lot of people didn't want him to win because he was Irish too, I'd say.
I mean what was the story with the people that wanted McGregor's face torn apart, kissing the canvas etc just because they deemed him a mouthpiece. Same people were totally ignoring what Mayweather was outside of the ropes. I'd love to know the real reason for the hatred towards McGregor with a certain few.
It's more a case of Floyd being 40, taking zeros risks and playing with his food than McGregor 'making a fight of it'. Pacquaio or Alvarez would of taken Connor out inside 3rounds
Imo not much of a contest at all, it all went Floyd's way and a little too much as if it was pre planned or something.Cheers btw.

The average would be nowhere near 1000, particularly at welterweight.
Always gonna be the exception to the rule I suppose.
And then you get these clowns, breaking the record for most punches in a round in round 12.
