Communicado Official: Casemiro #18

Absolutely love this guy already

I think the language barrier will affect how effective he is in this aspect initially. Great to read about such levels of dedication to his game though.

Well it doesn’t actually suggest that at all. He’s lived in Spain for about 15 years so it would make sense that he speaks fluent Spanish. Portuguese also isn’t that far detached from Spanish. I’m sure he’ll be fine though, Ancelotti thinks he’s a future manager by the way he reads and studies the game and he’s already said his family and he want to learn English ASAP.

He has lived in Spain for 9 years of course he is going to speak really good Spanish, and it doesn't mean he is intelligent because he can speak the language of a country he has been living in and speaking for almost 10 years.

Cristiano also lived in Madrid for nearly 10 years and doesn't speak great Spanish.

Casemiro's accent, pronunciation and general rhythm of speech is the best of any Portuguese speaker I've heard, certainly out of the footballers anyway.

It suggests he's intelligent because he's able to pick up subtle nuances in the language.

Oh that's interesting to know. I just lazily assumed Portuguese speakers would pick up Spanish really 'easily'.

What about other foreign footballers that you rate speaking Spanish?

Hats off to Casemiro for learning english.

He is clearly smart and wants to be a leader anywhere.

I feel sorry for the feckers who are still devoted to spending the last days of the transfer window in the miserable De Jong thread when we have signed this gem :drool:Can't wait to watch him on Saturday.

There's a difference between communicating effectively and speaking well.

I can't recall seeing that many interviewed in Spanish but from memory I think Varane and Modric speak Spanish well.

I just love everything about this signing. He's gonna drag this team forward and it feels like he was made to play in the Premier League.

BTW Casemiro speaks really good Spanish which suggests he's pretty intelligent and will likely pick up English quickly.
Yes the way he speaks you can see his intelligence. Also he is student of the game, of watching film and studying tactics and will likely be a coach when he retires.

Sometimes a club gets a windfall where things happen to line up for them by luck. I think Casemiro is one such addition. And in a season where the new manager is installing a culture of accountability and daily improvement the addition of a player of this magnitude is significant. We are going to feel this addition once he settles in.

Just a training clip, but this is clearly not a man who came to Old Trafford just to score likes on his dabbing videos on insta.

He probably got Phil Jones'd
What if it turns out that Jones is head and shoulders above the rest of the team in terms of fitness, but he keeps getting an internal ban for smashing into a team mate during training?

"Okay, Phillip. Week is over. You can come out of the punishment box. Off you go, free again!

....no! NO!!! BAD PHILLIP! BAD!!!"

So is it like a charm offensive or is it more of a 'I wouldn't take that card out if I was you, I know where your little Sally goes to school' kind of thing?

I heard something on the radio which suggests his Mrs. already speaks decent English and his kids have already been learning too.

I was all in for De Jong and was hoping we signed him BUT Casemiro is one of those players who is a back bone and he’s attitude and dedication you can’t not admire. Didn’t think I’d feel so excited when we first signed him but now I can’t wait to see him play. De Jong who?

And they do. Portuguese speakers understand and speak Spanish even before coming to Spain. They always keep a strong accent such as Figo who lives in Madrid and still has a strong accent but they understand Spanish by default just like Italians. They learn Spanish in days but not the other way round we don't understand them and need longer to learn their languages. Our phonetic is very clear and easy while theirs and french is much harder and irregular.

Casemiro and Cristiano are totally bilingual with 100% understanding of Spanish and excellent command spoken.

Cheers, never know what new thing I learn when logging onto the caf!

So what are people making of his performances so far? And the fact that he’s being slowly eased in despite us having only League Two options in McT and Fred (supposedly)?

Gave me a fright with a few passes in our half against Leicester, I have to say.

Really good DMs are often under appreciated. They make it look easy because they always just seem to be in the right place. It's the getting there that makes them top class.

Rice has it too. He quickly identified Richarlisons threat the other night and adjusted his positioning. Hard to pick up on TV and most people wouldn't notice, but it's there to see if you're watching him closely.

I wouldn't expect to see Casemiro run games, or get regular clear MOM recognition. Hes more likely to be quietly very efficient, amd we'll see an improved solidity and efficieny in the first two thirds, and he'll be integral to that happening.

Thought he was good. I wouldn’t worry about the one big mistake, shit happens.

Twice he’s come on and the team is suddenly able to play higher up the pitch. Leicester avoided our left hand side after he came on.

I’m not worried, really, just trying to spark some convo in this thread :)

:D

Seriously though, this guy is going to transform the midfield. He can shield the defence as well as play proactive passes forward

It looked simple, but the way he was shielding the defence inspired confidence in the team to play higher up the pitch. Simple, crisp effective passes, control of the tempo are just few things the team is missing for a long time. I mean, I am not a fan of Scott but even he played rather well in the last couple of games. I guess better players coming does help and improve others.
