Music Commercial Hip Hop Thread

I think people praise Kendrick for things that anyone else would get slated for.

Anyone else may get slated for it because they may not be able to pull it off as well or be as convincing.

Not anything to do with his clear talent or the imagery in his words & videos.

And I really do not think anything Drake is doing is over the top. People love to make jokes about Drake. And Drake seems to have a sense of humor about himself. Meek called Drake a fraud though. Music is the one thing Drake definitely seems to take seriously..

I don't understand either.

Drake has been kind enough to feature on both Meek's albums and even shot videos with him.

He supported him whilst he was incarcerated last year, he's cool with his label mates ie. Ross and is/was obviously very close with Nicki.

It all seems that Meek Mill wasn't happy that Drake failed to promote his new album via Twitter/Instagram because Drake knew that Meek knew about the alleged ghost writing.

Meek also went at Wale for not tweeting his last album so he would've called out Drake regardless of the ghostwriting thing.

I haven't written Meek out yet because I don't see how any one with a brain would want to go at the 6 God right now without having some sort of masterplan - Hip Hop is not just about authenticity and skill anymore it's about much more than that,so a beef won't necessarily be judged by those things...aside from the gods only Kendrick and maybe J.Cole ( to a lesser extent) can match Drake in terms of stature, even then Drizzy is still very much the bigger brand,Hov (largely considered to be one of the biggest brands to ever come out of hip hop, top 3 at least) might talk a good game but he still wasn't as celebrated (in his prime)as Drizzy is now (beyond the Hip Hop community of course).

Besides everyone knows July-September is OVO season - it's quite pathetic really I can't even listen to any of the classic DC mixtapes the same again.

And this is coming from someone who thinks Drake peaked at Take Care.

I guess that rules out a classic Drizzy verse on an MMG posse cut like the likes of Kendrick and Cole on Power Circle and Black Grammys respectively.

Common vs Lupe . Who will end up the better mc when it's all said and done? Thoughts caftards?

Lupe for me.

Food & Liquor and The Cool are two of my favourite albums ever.

I've personally never enjoyed an entire Common album, just certain tracks off them all.

Yeah i'm really thinking Lupe is criminally under appreciated. I'd have Lupe above common too. How about Kendrick vs Ice cube?

All of this.

My favourite Common album was Be, but I think that was largely due to the Kanye production as well.

Kendrick.

If he releases a 3rd studio album on a similar level to GKMC & TPAB then it has to solidify him as an all time great.

Does having a classic mixtape somewhat equate to having a classic album in this day and age where almost nothing is a classic?

Royce da 5? Has he even made a commercially successful album apart from his time with SH? No shade.

I think GKMC might have sold more records than the entirety of Royce's discography.

As an MC, theyre more even, but I think peak Kendrick surpasses Royce. The Kendrick doing these bullshit features, easily.

Sales shouldn't come into it. I agree with the point you made.

I'm trying to figure out what streak is greater; Section 80 through TPAB or Amerika's Most Wanted through the Predator by Ice Cube.

Mentioned it the other week, gone under the radar quite a bit. Only four songs but really love what Warren did with this.
