College Football Season Begins...

-Young will leave. He's losing the best players on his line. The only reason he might stay is to solidify the fact he's a QB, as opposed to being drafted as a receiver or something, like Matt Jones.

- I will put AT THE VERY LEAST 5 Tight Ends ahead of Thomas...

Marcedes Lewis, UCLA
Leonard Pope, Georgia
Vernon Davis, Maryland
Dominique Byrd, USC
Tim Day, Oregon
Zach Miller, Arizona St (so)

-I agree on Scott, and ranked him accordingly in my head to head matchup
I'd still put him behind D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Eric Winston

-I agree on Blalock. As I have said and ranked him accordingly head to head.

but he is behind Scott, Ferguson, Winston, McNeill and Justice

-I'd put AT LEAST 8 OG's ahead of Allen.

Max Jean-Gilles, Georgia
Davin Joseph, Oklahoma
Taitusi Lutui, USC
Mark Setterstrom, Minnesota
Ryan O'Callahan, Cal
Matt Lentz, Michigan
Charles Spencer, Pitt
Jami Hightower, Texas AM
Kyle Ralph, North Carolina

-Rod Wright was disappointing last year, though he is a great player. he is still behind a few DT's I'd put ahead of him.

Haloti Ngata, Oregon
Jesse Mahelona, Tennessee
Claude Wroten, LSU

-Dibbles---he has a ways to go before he is even a top 15 DT.

-Harris---good player, usually overshadowed by Derrick Johnson when he was there...but not a top MLB yet...I'd put quite a few ahead of him

Ahmad Brooks, Virginia
D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland
Abdul Hodge, Iowa
Patrick Willis, Ole Miss
Freddie Roach, Alabama
Nick Reid, Kansas
Justin London, UCLA
A.J. Nicholson, Florida St.
Anthony Schlegel, Ohio St.

-Griffin, good player...maybe 5th or 6th best..these are all better

Jimmy Williams, Va Tech
Jason Allen, Tennessee
Charles Gordon, Kansas, Jr.
Devin Hester, Miami, Jr.
Will Blackmon, Boston College

-Huff - great player, But Bing and LaRon Landry are better than him.
Marcedes Lewis is the best TE in the nation - hands down.

Justin London has all the talent in the world - but has been playing hurt most of this year and become slightly "ineffective." Spencer Havner is light-years better than him, anyway. I'll be sad to see Spence go - he was fantastic his entire time @ Westwood.

i know, that's why I ranked Marcedes #1. ;) I am fair, and I can spot talent even if it is a Ruin. ;)

I'd have put Havner in there, but there was no space for a comparison of OLB's, just MLB's.

I didn't actually read any of that - I just scanned for the Fantastic Four letters :D

If healthy, London belongs in that group, easily.

I can't believe this Saturday is only going to be your 2nd home game out of the first 7 - is that right?!? Can't be - I read that somewhere recently, though.

Wazzu is our 8th total game and 3rd home game. ( 4 of last 5 were on the road, Oreg a, ASU a, AZ h, ND a, Wash a, no bye weeks either )

sc doesn't have to leave cali the whole rest of the way thankfully.

you are in the clear minority of people who think that Texas is on a par or better than USC.

You're full of shit. Not once have I made a statement that Texas is better. I'm simply saying they would put up a good game against USC, and may even win. This whole debate has been me defending the schedule and the lack of "high-octane offenses." You make a new outrageous claim each post.

Twisting facts to support your argument. You got some Michael Moore in ya.

It would be a close game, but I think Texas is playing with a slight bit more tenacity than USC are at the moment.

as said...Texas hasn't faced any high octane offenses, at least that haven't been beating up on D1aa opponents

and SC is still the better, more balanced team....with the tougher schedule, the better offense, and the tougher opponents.

no facts have been twisted...every single one has been laid out, accurately, plain as day for you to see...maybe you just don't like what they say.

USC Stomps Wazzu into the ground 55-13...450 yds offense in the first half

ran up 743 yds total offense (310 Rushing, 433 Passing) with the whole second and third string playing offense in the 4th quarter

USC's "weak defense" held Wazzu's offense ranked

18th rushing - 217 YPG to 195 yards
16th passing - 302 YPG to 89 yards
6th total off - 519 YPG to 284 yards
9th scoring - 39.14 PPG to 13 points

and that was with 7 TRUE FRESHMEN on the defense for the entire 4th quarter.

---------------------

Georgia goes down, so only 5 unbeaten's left, with about 4 games left for each before the end of the season.

trojans back on top and vtech makes up some ground

btw, what happens if the winner of a conference with an automatic bcs bowl bid doesnt have the required 9 wins and isnt in the top 12 of the bcs? could happen with the big east this year ...

who knows...the whole things a fecking mess.

last week in two of the computer polls that factor into the BCS, USC was 5th in one of them and 4th in another.

you can make a case for texas or va tech at #1 conceivably, but having USC at 4th, let alone 5th is pure madness

the one computer poll that didnt have texas as #1 now, after they had some problems with oklahoma state early on, moves them up to #1 and the trojans down to #2?

the polls youre speaking of had alabama at #2, flashie ... thats madness

I know...completely absurd.

Texas has serious problems with the 97th ranked team...we pasted the #67 team...Texas moves up...we move down.

the AP and Coaches polls worked fine before the BCS. just go back to the AP and coaches poll, take the top 4 at the end of the season, 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3...winners meet for the championship.

so fecking simple it's ridiculous.

it would also make them a hell of alot more money...having three huge bowl games as opposed to just one huge one.

one major conference (i dont consider the big east a major conference without bc, vtech and miami) would still cry "foul" if you only had a 4 team "playoff" but your solution at least gives 2 more teams a shot at the title. if alabama wins out i expect the sec to make some trouble.

well the way I figure, there are never any more than 4 teams that deserve a shot really, so screw the whiny conferences.

if their are 3 undefeated teams and several one loss teams, you take the 3 undefeated's and try and take the best of the one loss squads.

better to have people whining about being left out at #4, than a deserving team like Auburn being denied any chance at all, or the travesty with USC in 2003.

Cant see Bama going unbeaten with LSU and Auburn plus the SEC Championship game to go.

I agree...I'm hoping so. I'm glad Bama is back, but they have zero offense. if they somehow make it through the last two games and the sec championship and USC-Texas go unbeaten, the SEC is going to start griping...but they really can't complain...there isn't a half decent offense in the sec this year.

I'm just crossing my fingers that they lose, but I do hope they go 11-1.

the Canes defense looked great vs. Va Tech...shades of old. completely shut down the hokies. their lock down coverage corners were great, Kenny Phillips is probably the next sean taylor and ed reed. Willie Williams is starting to get lots of time, and they are as good if not better than their illustrious cane predecessors. their defensive numbers are absolutely ridiculous.

there is only one team that could handle that defense and that's USC. Miami's defense would smother Texas' offense, same way they did to va tech, who have a similar QB and receiver corps that can be shut down by a strong secondary and a qb prone to turnovers. Texas couldn't get away with those mistakes against a miami defense. It would remain to be seen if the miami offense could put up points on Texas...but if they could hang 20 on VT at home, which is a much better defense than Texas they'd take Texas down as well.

offensively, Charlie Jones looked great filling in for Moss, but I haven't been sold on the Miami offense at all.

they have too much talent to be mediocre on offense. Wright is going to be a really good QB, but his receivers have got to step up, and while JOnes has looked good and this could be his breakout game, they haven' had a great back since McGahee, and that's unacceptable for a program as good as UM.

Leggett has all the potential in the world, but I've been disappointed with his play so far...he should be much farther along.

Hester has been a major disappointment...I think he bought into his own hype way to much in the offseason.

Winston is a tremendous tackle...#2 only to D'Brichashaw Ferguson IMO this year.

I'd probably put Penn State above Bama and would somehow find a way to drop UCLA from the Top 10.

That Greg Olsen kid is going to be great as well. Somehow, Miami just keeps on pumping out good TEs.

yeah, they got another good TE last year in recruiting as well.

some schools just tend to produce great players at certain positions..

Canes have always churned out great LBs DB's and Interior DT's

recent years produced great RB's (James, Portis, McGahee)

some great OLineman as well, but they produce shit receivers recently( Johnson is good) and their QB's all suck.

I watched 'The U' put a pasting on the Hokies last night. Christ can they play 'D'. Watched the first half of the USC game (just to see the song girls) and they completely overwhelmed Stanford. I haven't see Texas yet but I am curious if they can beat someone decent. How about a playoff?

that's what I have always said. 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3 winners meet for the championship. it can also still be done within the 4 major bowl framework, you just rotate the games every year, and the odd bowl out gets a matchup of #5 vs. #6

for example...

year 1

ROSE -1 v 4 semi
SUGAR -2 v 3 semi
FIESTA -championship
ORANGE -5 v 6

year 2

SUGAR -1 v 4 semi
FIESTA -2 v 3 semi
ORANGE -championship
ROSE -5 v 6

year 3

FIESTA -1 v 4 semi
ORANGE -2 v 3 semi
ROSE -championship
SUGAR -5 v 6

year 4

ORANGE -1 v 4 semi
ROSE -2 v 3 semi
SUGAR -championship
FIESTA -5 v 6

repeat the cycle every 4 years.

this is an article which is excellent and is exactly my solution and shows the predictions of if they had this system they last seven years or so...

well talk again when 2 of the 3 remaining unbeatens dont win out ... now that would be fun

If Texas and Bama lose then Miami will definitely have to play in the NCS game, as they would've just gotten loads of BCS points by having beaten VTech and presumably FSU in the ACC Championship game. Alabama have a great chance of losing imo. Texas probably wont slip up, although anything can happen.

From what I have seen, Miami has the best D in the nation. That being said, I don't think they are as balanced as either Texas or USC. Now, I highly doubt that Bama will win out, but if they do, they should play Miami in a Bowl Game while USC should play Texas for the National Championship.

We had Martellus Bennett on board early but he decomitted and went somewhere close to home in Texas. We ended up with DajLeon Farr, who is going to take over from Olsen in a year or so. The funny thing about Olsen is that he went to Notre Dame because his brother went there, and when his brother left, he came to UM, citing that thats where he wanted to go from the beginning. We also narrowly missed out on Zach Miller a couple of years ago. I dont think any of them are as good as Shockey or Winslow.

UM fan too Raoul? Good to see it. Excellent game against VT, although Wright could have performed better. Our running game continues to get us out of problems. We should make a very good push for the ACC title and into one of the top BCS bowls.

It'll be awhile until Olsen can be put into the same shoes as Shockey or Winslow. Thing about those 2 is that they put out in the big games and Olsen hasn't really done that type of work this season (missed the 2 big chances against FSU and had a dropped TD against Clemson in reg time).

Bama will not go undefeated, which leaves Miami in a very good position. Was hoping Stanford would hold up against USC, but USC wanted revenge for the close call from last year I assume.

FSU in the ACC title game ... sweet revenge, here we come.
