College Football 2023

Dabo got heated on his call in show. As a coach, I am wired to typically defend coaches when folks question their decisions, since they don’t know what all is happening. The caller probably shoulda stayed away from the money angle, since it isn’t gonna get you anywhere in an argument, but the other stuff he said is spot on. Not a good look by Dabo in my opinion.

I really wish I knew which Tyler from Spartanburg it was that called in. I'd buy him a beer.
Something tells me he’s about to reach media fame he never expected in very short order, even if it is just local (which it won’t be).

Is there any truth to Dabo being limited by his attitude towards using the transfer portal, NIL and so on?
I'd say 100% yes.

Edit: to add a bit more nuance...

It's a combo of rejecting new changes to college football + poor recruiting & development after certain members of the coaching staff left.

I'd say definitely. We have utilized something like 65ish% transfer portal players this year & it shows in our performances. Our players are older & more seasoned across the board which is only a positive. Not sure how many other ACC schools use a similar percentage, but I'd say all use it more than Clemson.

To my knowledge, we don't have a single transfer portal player in the lineup.

That's why he says he's doing it... and that's admirable, but...
...it will always keep a team younger than its opponents unfortunately. Makes a difference having a fifth year starting QB v a RS sophomore. Check that, at any position.

I'd be pissed if my school wasn't actively involved in it.

5 years ago, I’d have said 100%, he’s probably that guy. Now though? I don’t know.

Alabama certainly doesn’t have an issue with the transfer portal and NIL and they definitely aren’t going to bring him in to undo their policies on those two issues.

I think what you heard there was a prideful response from a guy who has basically never been criticized by his fans before in his time as head coach.

Current day Mack Brown and Lou Holtz, had his days on top of the mountain but there's only one way off and it's a long fall.

 ffs

I've paid zero attention to this "issue" to date (and I hope tOSU is too, 2 defeats in a row is motivation enough)

This is interesting however. They wouldn't fire him if there was no fire, right?

Nothing will come of this though. Let's just beat these feckers on the field

They flipping survived up three in OT against four downs inside the Texas 6.

Will Howard, the K-State QB, keep an eye on him in the next draft. He's got that mechanics, talent and size to make it in the NFL.

Ugly, but effective.

Can't remember the last time we were in the ACC Championship game.

Single Caf-ites, find yourself someone who loves you half as much as Riley loves his boy Grinch and you will be happy forever. Is this the worst defense in College football?

About 18 months too late, but at least Riley got to keep his drinking buddy around for all this time to create all those great memories.
