As a true PSV supporter, i’ve been following this thread for a while. I’d like to comment on some of the remarks that have been made about Cody Gakpo:

At first, Gakpo has played his entire carreer as a righg-footed left winger. I have seen some comment that suggest he might be a future striker, but there’s no real proof (other then his shotpower) that Gakpo can play in that position. He rarely plays as a striker.

As a winger, Gakpo likes to come inside to aim for the goal, and his primary skills are his shot-power and accuracy. Gakpo scores a lot of goals from outside the box.

When going around the outside, Gakpo usually will cut back and go for the right footed assist. His second skill would be his passing. His stats will tell the rest. If he stays at PSV this season i expect him to deliver a lot of assists on Luuk the Jong.

Opposite from Anthony, Gakpo is not a great dribbler. Don’t expect him to pass tree opponents in a small space, he hasn’t got the skills to do that. PSV often uses the counter attack, and that suits him well. His long legs and fierce body makes it very difficult for opponents to get him off the ball.

When comparing Gakpo with Memphis and Bergwijn, i think Gakpo is further then Bergwijn when he left, but less decisive as Memphis when he left. As a person, Gakpo is an example for any other player; polite, gentle, far from arrogant, and greedy to get better

As his pricing: PSV will not let Gakpo go for less then 45 mln euro (excl extra bonus fees). Gakpo is born and raised in Eindhoven, and PSV is certain Gakpo will be the most expensive player to leave the club untill now (Hirving Lozano holds that record at the moment)

Is he worth the money? I think Cody could bring Man United a lot, but not at this moment. The situation in which Manchester United finds itself right now, will not bring the best out of Gakpo. I think only the true stars will be able to make Manchester United better, And Cody is not (yet) that kind of player.

As a PSV supporter i hope he will stay with us for another year. Curious to see which Choise Man Utd will make.

Probably more about people hoping that he can be a striker. Because we need one. We dont really ned a LW.

I also think people struggle to see that he has the pace or ability to take players on to be a LW in the PL. As a striker, their is quite a few quite players who did not have much pace or one-on-one ability who became very good. I guess Gakpo also have the «frame» of a typical striker.

This.

It’s the one I’m least excited about.

The problem with signing him means we are stuck with Sancho on the right who is clearly struggling compared to being on the left.

Leroy? His pace is gone. Another sanchez in the making.

Really?? I seen him but the burners on the other day for Germany. For the life of me I can’t remember who against but they was pretty quick themselves.

He looks terrible here apart from one good cross in

Runs a lot, falls a lot, doesn't really strike the ball well, a lot of misplaced passes

Rashford is better than him surely

Terrible?

Looks like his link up play is good and his pace and power was causing the full backs problem.

When's the last time you saw Rashford complete 3 passes in a row let alone cause his full back problems?

Remember Memphis absolutely murdering that Belgian (or Danish?) fullback that one time?

On paper yes but Rashford doesn’t run doesn’t do anything. This guy is better because he does all them things. I’m not saying we should get him but he is better currently for the side than Rashford.

Link up play was decent, he has pace but I don't know about power, falling all over the place.

He's good at dribbling around the centre but hardly seen him pass the back 4 much, he runs to their defence and tries a pass. His way too raw in that video, nothing special.

On Rashford, I don't rate him but I can't see Gakpo taking his place

Not really watched him, but would be interesting to know if he's actually better than Garnacho.

Obviously Garnacho is a kid, but he did the business when he was given the one chance. Just wondering if some of the answers we're seeking are sitting on our bench (overly optimistic I know, but if you're good enough, you're old enough)

Personally I'd sell him to PSG, get more money and invest in a better forward than Gakpo

I honestly thought he was only 21, think he's potentially great but I'm surprised he's still playing in Holland given his reputation as a top talent. He's more of a risk than I thought.

If Ronaldo leaves, there is only room for one of Gakpo or Antony. Other signing has to be a physical number 9 type to give us some sort of plan B

Genuinely don't want this guy. His technique is average, passing and control just aren't clean at all and as a result he'll immediately struggle with less space and savvier more aggressive defenders in the Prem. He'll just become another squad problem in 2 years.

If we buy him because he's cheaper than Antony we'll regret it, the same way we went for the budget deal in VDB instead of shelling out for Grealish who was clearly superior and more suited to our needs.
