Course they are, the mugs have come knocking.

Can someone who watches Eredevisie convince me. Gakpo is a decent player? I've watched the Monaco and Rangers game and he looks bang ordinary.
Watch Eredivisie every week and I do believe he is decent however Monaco/Rangers may be what he's got. I hope he will be better than Depay/Bergwijn in PL, but I am not convinced.

For me he also needs to prove himself in European games and so far he hasn't really. He was woeful against Monaco (twice), but did recover against Rangers in which he was decent. However he has not convinced me either. He's the exact same type of player as Memphis/Bergwijn. However I'd say his end product is better than Memphis/Bergwijn's was when they left PSV. Gakpo is a better finisher and his crosses are better as well. However like Bergwijn and Memphis he's not a winger with great skill and therefore not one that will just get past one or two defenders - unless he can use pure pace.

Gakpo could be a decent squad option and he might be more effective than Rashford at this point. However I don't see a future star in him.

Ergh will support him if he comes but he looked quite shit

We already have enough mediocrity in our squad. Do we need to add another one by spending 40-50m?

He only makes sense as a CF from what I can see in the clips. Doesn't seem to have quick enough feet to be a great winger in the PL.

I think this will work out well for us. While Antony does look great + is left footed, I’m very skeptical of paying that much money for someone with not great G/A stats in the Dutch league. Gapko looks like a unit physically and looks a good finisher too, think he would displace Rashford from the starting lineup fairly quickly. Can play CF too if needed. If he flops, at least it won’t be a 100M flop.

Hope we get him, don’t have much to lose.

They want 40-50m for him. He isn't coming for 20m. How is that amount of money being spent mean "don't have much to lose"? Depay was technically more gifted, had better stats but he didn't work out here as well. 50m flop is better than a 100m flop sure but thats still an expensive flop. We already have 1B worth of flop transfers to account for over the past decade.

The issue is he's not really favored as a CF. He's not being bullied, but he's not as strong for his size suggest. He's corner taker, crosser instead corner, cross attacker.

So buying him for whole new experience CF in most physical league is questionable. As LF signing is a bit silly since we can easily shift Sancho to left wing, and play Eriksen as right wide play maker.

Get a more natural CF, else a more proven wide attacker. Sick of buying player then try to shoehorn in less natural position.

By that logic, why not Depay instead? Cheaper so less damage if flop.

Gabriel Jesus PL proven, have more international experience, just moved from Man City to Arsenal for a little over €50mil. Now it's being reported that PSV would ask €40-50mil. Explain to me can this look good value

At least with Antony, you can envision how he could look like a top-class player in a year or two.

Gakpo doesn't seem to have anything that would make him stand out in a much better league.

Think the price i’m seeing is 40M Euros. Thats not a lot tbh in today’s market and the lad if I’m not wrong was the league’s player of the year.

With add-ons it’s 50m Euros. Being Dutch league player of the year doesn’t mean shit when you come to England. I’m bringing up Depay again. He was a consistent performer in the Dutch league for a couple of years before he moved here. PSG were so close to signing him. We only got him cause we had LVG. Martínez was Ajax player of the year. I know it’s super early to judge him but making that jump up to the premier league isn’t easy.

How do you pronounce his name? I think I heard melissa reddy say 'Hepko'

As a true PSV supporter, i’ve been following this thread for a while. I’d like to comment on some of the remarks that have been made about Cody Gakpo:

At first, Gakpo has played his entire carreer as a righg-footed left winger. I have seen some comment that suggest he might be a future striker, but there’s no real proof (other then his shotpower) that Gakpo can play in that position. He rarely plays as a striker.

As a winger, Gakpo likes to come inside to aim for the goal, and his primary skills are his shot-power and accuracy. Gakpo scores a lot of goals from outside the box.

When going around the outside, Gakpo usually will cut back and go for the right footed assist. His second skill would be his passing. His stats will tell the rest. If he stays at PSV this season i expect him to deliver a lot of assists on Luuk the Jong.

Opposite from Anthony, Gakpo is not a great dribbler. Don’t expect him to pass tree opponents in a small space, he hasn’t got the skills to do that. PSV often uses the counter attack, and that suits him well. His long legs and fierce body makes it very difficult for opponents to get him off the ball.

When comparing Gakpo with Memphis and Bergwijn, i think Gakpo is further then Bergwijn when he left, but less decisive as Memphis when he left. As a person, Gakpo is an example for any other player; polite, gentle, far from arrogant, and greedy to get better

As his pricing: PSV will not let Gakpo go for less then 45 mln euro (excl extra bonus fees). Gakpo is born and raised in Eindhoven, and PSV is certain Gakpo will be the most expensive player to leave the club untill now (Hirving Lozano holds that record at the moment)

Is he worth the money? I think Cody could bring Man United a lot, but not at this moment. The situation in which Manchester United finds itself right now, will not bring the best out of Gakpo. I think only the true stars will be able to make Manchester United better, And Cody is not (yet) that kind of player.

As a PSV supporter i hope he will stay with us for another year. Curious to see which Choise Man Utd will make.

From your description, he sounds like how Rashford used to play before he turn to shit.

He has talent but I guess we didn't watch Gakpo against AS Monaco. He was rubbish. He looks like a little boy and needs to invest a lot of time in the gym.

Surely that rumour of us bidding again for Antony is bullshit then. No way we could buy him and Gakpo...

I hope it's just a smokescreen for Antony. The fee for Antony is crazy but I'm pretty confident in him being the right guy for what we need. Gakpo is a winger who I think would face similar struggles to Memphis, but generally wouldn't be a starter long term or short term. Maybe he develops centrally. But he hasn't played centrally at all nor has he shown hold up play ability so I dunno.

Totally agree. He’s very good with his back to goal and turning. There is no chance it’s Antony or Gakpo in my opinion - I think we’re after both with Ronaldo leaving.
I actually think we forget how much money ronaldo leaving would free up.

Lets be honest he's relatively mediocre
Mid table in PL at best.

The only way this would make sense would be if Rashford is off to PSG. Otherwise, doesn't make sense.

Unless we are going to use him as a striker, I don't see the need. Sancho, Rashford and Garnacho can all play on the left. Although far more expensive, there is a much greater need for Antony.

Antony looks a better talent tbh. Again this one works only if he can turn into a quality CF
