Club Sale | It’s done!

Call me crazy but it’s a tad hypocritical.

A person that has directly benefited from financial investment from ME money is criticising people that want the club to benefit financially from ME money.

It’s pretty comparable if you ask me.
It's really not. In fact it actually shows he is objective?

Does that apply to many? Just find the whole guilt tripping thing a bit off, which seems to be aimed at everyone not completely morally disgusted at the possibility of ME ownership.

I am honestly not trying to guilt trip anyone. People can do what they want but don’t try and moralise it through silly arguments is my basic premise.

I don’t believe the Glazers can stay, but here’s my rough take on the numbers, mostly from memory and guesswork. Feel free to point out the many and obvious flaws.

Without considering the large premium Qatar or INEOS would likely pay, United are valued at approx 3.3B pounds, depending on what day’s stock price you take. The Glazers own approx 66%, say 2.1B pounds, giving each sibling 350M. For Avram and Joel to stay, they would need to pay the others 1.4B for their four shares, or around 700M from each of them. I don’t believe they have anything like that cash lying around, so that means borrowing, maybe from the Elliott vultures. 700M for a 10 year term at 6% gives annual repayments of around 92M, which is far beyond what they can take from United and hopefully far more than they can afford.

If the Glazer siblings want full Qatari value for their shares it makes the repayment figures above nearly 150M per year.

I don’t see how they can stay, but I am nervous that Elliott could structure a deal that makes it possible, while increasing the likelihood that the Glazers default (or maybe die) before the repayments are complete and hand the club to the vultures.
The other four will want their big payday and will value the club at the 6Bn mark being touted by the Glazer mouthpieces. Any deal structured to buy out the other siblings will break United, they are gone and if not we could see a civil war erupting amongst the Glazer siblings cause no way are the others going to accept a pay off without the premium or pass up on a chance to walk away with a billion each. Having seen the bids they will want their pound of flesh.

That’s just factually incorrect isn’t it. How many times have you called me out in particular?

If the Glazers stay on in any capacity, the fans will go nuclear. It will make every protest so far, look like a Vicars tea party.

Either he doesn’t want to turn down the financial benefits of his situation or he is too attached to where he lives to moves.
If it’s the first instance then he has no right to dig up old posts of others and shout at them on a forum. If it’s the second instance then he is shouting at people who are in the exact emotional situation as he was.
Morals just aren’t morals when you’re posting on a forum. Especially when he says it was out of his hands as if it separated te situation from this which is…out of our hands
You can’t lambast somebody for accepting oil money at United that they aren’t even receiving themselves when you are actually pocketing the benefits of oil money yourself.
It’s not even being that harsh.

He didn't get directly financial benefits of it, did he? I presume he hasn't pocketed anything, just indirectly benefitted from increase in asset value (home). He lived there before the area was invested in, he didn't pursue it. You know very well you can't expect someone to rip up their lives because of it. Imagine telling your kids you will move away from friends and school because you don't like the moral of the new developer in the area. What he can do is that he can boycott stuff like phones, clothes, holidays etc, basically any stuff that has a source which he finds morally shady, even if that is hard to do also - and not something you should expect from the common man.

He could also be extremely critical of the source of other potential owners (environmental) and funding (investment banks that has been destroying thousands of lives since their inceptions).

If you think the UK government are so evil, why do you support United?
Are you serious, or is this some kind of sarcasm I am not getting  ?

What a strange take. What does the British government have to do with united and the British public?

I hate my government in my home country too , does that mean I hate my country???

Fantastic breakdown, I really appreciate it.

Like yourself, another poster has broken down the figures, and none of them stack up for the Glazers to stay.

They're not in the best place to negotiate. It will come down to how desperate the buyer is to get United.
If the bidders called their bluff and withdrew their bids tomorrow the Glazers will struggle to hold on until 2024 in my view. Its all just posturing, we owe £300m in transfer payables and we still need a couple of big signings. If the two serious bidders put out statements that the sellers aren't serious and they are withdrawing all hell could break loose and tank our season costing us top 4.

I said yesterday and sounding like a broken record and after news there putting up season tickets there getting an investment from those gits and staying. Oh I realy hope they go.

I’m not even arguing against this, it’s his choice. I’m arguing against his brazen nature in this very thread by calling out posters who have less in the game than he has.
He made a choice in this thread and, imo, was over the top with it because of his situation and the questions he had to ask of himself.
That’s all. It’s easy to have morals on redcafe but he literally called himself one of the lucky ones when admitting how he benefitted from Abu Dhabi investing in England.
The man should have a lot more understanding but he’s on here roasting everybody from a very questionable moral position.
Not saying he was wrong to do what he did in his personal life at all. That’s everybody’s own choice the same it’s everybody’s own choice in how to deal with the shit owner situation we find ourselves in now, he has oil money inflating his worth right now that is connected with banning homosexuality etc. it’s just a fact. That fact is more damning than digging up some random poster saying he didn’t want oil money 4 months ago to saying they’d live with it today.

If the UK government have nothing to do with the ownership of Man United why did you bring them up in a response to the Qatari government who are buying Man United? You have identified the difference in your post above.

Okay.

What should I have done?

Pretty much. Think we can all move on from that now.

I don't think the Glazers will stay but they could be exercising the bit of wiggle room coming their way with team looking secure for a top 4 spot and entry to the CL and possibly a decent run in it under ETH which brings in extra funds. It allows them to kick the can down the road for a year or two and hold firm in these negotiations.

@Wumminator and a couple others are literally chasing everyone on this forum who have different opinions, so weird. Always amazes me how grown up people are so insecure.

Why have you not responded when asked what I should have done?

It’s really simple and it’ll make your argument for you!

I’m a hypocrite! I owned a house in an area before a group gentrified the area and made my house price shoot up.

I’m against a different Middle East group owning my football club.

So in that scenario, what action do I take to avoid being a hypocrite?

Not at all. I’ve said to some people they’ve made some great points.

Posting someone’s own words back at them isn it guilt tripping at all. It’s reminding them of something they publicly posted.

This thread has been going in circles for about 500 pages now.

Whatever the outcome, be it JR or Qatar, I really hope that it moves quickly (As quick as something like this can move) as this discourse is becoming unbearable, though of course it is the biggest topic of discussion right now.

What is a fan supposed to do?

Well they could stick to their morals and stop supporting a regime they find abhorrent. Or they can admit the football clubs success (not the football club - just winning) is more important than their morals.

They’re the only two options.
Or you could be someone with real day to day problems like living pay check to pay check, working a shit job, mental health issues, suffering from illness or family members suffering from illness and just want to watch the team that they love to bring them pleasure and a brief distraction from their stressful lives. Not everyone has the privilege or physical/emotional bandwidth to be morally outraged about every god damn thing going on in the world. Personally, I'm freaking exhausted with all of this ownership back and forth. I just want to get back to watching football with my family and friends and whether it's the Qataris or Radlciffe, that's never going to change. If that makes me a piece of crap non-virtuous asshole, well so be it.

I’ve noticed the term “whataboutism” has now become a life boat for people whose moral high ground starts taking on water. So you’re not actually outraged by violation of human rights. Let them all get slaughtered as long as it’s not a rich Arab trying buy United that’s doing the slaughtering.
I don’t know what this moral high ground is you keep banging on about. I have respectfully stated facts. I’m not judging anybody, I’m not insulting anybody yet you seem to be spoiling for a fight. All out of stating my belief that the Qatar bid is a state buyout in all but name, and that raises ethical questions, questions about competition integrity and issues related to financial doping and the effect on the wider sport.
This is a separate issue to gulf wars, Easter risings, US invasions and Covid to name just a few. I have no interest in discussing those things here in a thread about the sale of Manchester United and derailing the thread but that doesn’t mean I in anyway condone any of them either.
A large part of partaking in this debate is to educate myself and come to a firm conclusion about my support for the club and my stand on issues relating to the sale. However, should I come to the conclusion that I’m ultimately okay with the club being Qatari state owned, then I will absolutely be guilty of condoning all of the things discussed in this thread.

It’s not the hypocrisy that I take issue with. It’s the sanctimonious and condescending attitude.

Nah that’s cos you claim to support 4 teams ;)
Only joking!

As far as I am aware you’ve never taken umbrage with Qatari ownership or implied you hate their morals, that’s fine! I completely get your point of view and it doesn’t make you a non-virtuous asshole at all!

This thread is a fecking shambles, it’s just a handful of people posting the same shite over and over.

I opened it earlier to see if there’s been any news and it had grown by over 20 pages and feck all has actually happened as far as I can see.

It’s so tiresome.

It'll be like the Boston Tea Party all over again, except this time the good guys will be the ones rioting.

They’re going nowhere. No bids are getting rejected either, that’s for sure.

Fair. I’m boring myself now and had my say so I’ll just stop posting in here.

Great post too btw, I agree with you - and really you’re honest about your opinion and why you hold that opinion so I don’t think you should be judged or name called.

Why wouldn’t they? It’s not something decided yesterday, will have long been in pipeland, was absolutely due, looks better on financial forecasts when Qatar and INEOS do due diligence etc.
Just because the club is up for sale doesn’t mean you stop running it.
