Of course. I just find it absurd that the people claiming it isn't, aren't then also trying to find out how it could conceivably be financed otherwise...He's just gonna find the money to invest in everything on a scale akin to state ownership, because he said so, and we don't need to look into it in the same way we're looking into every other bid.... No one would argue that in good faith unless they know it's state ownership, and just want a way to excuse it.

Just own it FFS
 Was hoping people were joking today, seems not however.

Right. People now have a reason to attack trans people that they didn't have before. For some this will be people who already held transphobic views that weren't relevant to air, and some will discover new transphobic beliefs because it's convenient.
What? Sorry whats this new reason?

Yeah it's bizarre the hoops people are jumping through here to delude themselves into thinking this isn't a state backed takeover.

Whatever helps them sleep ar nights I suppose.
The weird thing for me is it's not like there isn't a massive group of people on here already who just say "yeah I don't care where the money comes from, I just want to buy Mbappe". Like... you don't need to lie to yourself about this, there's enough of you already to just own it.

Indeed. It isn't surprising that some people here need that clarified for them though, as even some people you'd think would know all about how completely coincidental that relationship is slip up.

Yep mate nothing to see here. Its just a group of affluent like minded private individuals that are big football fans and want to own their boyhood clubs.

I'm sure Sheikh Mansour was a regular in the Kippax back in the day. Just as I have no doubt Sheikh Jassim has been in Bishops Blaze loads of times before a match.

Being motivated to defend new owners.

Hmm I’m not sure about that however fair enough. I actually think (outside of anything to do with United). Middle eastern investment in the west has forced conversations about these issues in the middle east that would not have happened otherwise.

Conversely it has also forced some of us in the west to understand differences in ideology that exist outside of the west. (Not speaking about LGBTQ here) but things like Muslim footballers fasting etc.

Saying that is not a + for middle eastern ownership of United because I think that conversation has had enough coverage and has been pushed far enough that United ownsership would no longer push it further

It's unfortunate that the conversation seems to be "exactly how late in the day should we leave it before we humiliate FIFA and ban any visible symbols of LGBTQ+ solidarity at the World Cup".

Whatever way you want to look at it, without the Qatari bid for United something like this never gets posted on Stretty News. That's extremely damaging to our LGBTQ+ supporters.

"We cannot expect rational thinking or common sense when it has become normal to resist biology. It’s simple anatomy. But still, it was not deemed out of touch to criticise Qatar for not abiding by the countless social laws created by entitled Westerners over the last 15 years."

And from another article - "Government in Qatar has always been a family affair and historically there has been no real distinction between the income of the state and that of the ruler."

Most people understand it the current establishment. The point is that some people will think the establishment not long lasting, and therefore, they want to separate the state with the current controlling power.
It’s similar to many other countries, North Korean, Iran, etc. not all countries are really for people, even though the controlling power always say so.

Things like that were posted on this very forum without the Qatari bid, especially due to the world cup. Even during the Newcaslte Suadi bids. Like I said before the discourse that has happened overall has actually been positive (you will always get some negative) usually from people with ingrained views waiting for the moment.

Anyway I was only making an observation.

If you cannot see the difference between a widely followed fan newsletter posting this on their site, passing through their editorial oversight to their viewership and individuals posting on a forum were they were correctly censored then I don't know what to tell you.

I'm sure @Raoul will be able to clarify Redcafe's stance on it's members posting transphobic material for you.

Why do journalists have selective, short term memory? How do you think Britain and the US were built and the untold devastation they committed around the world?

Edit 1:

Edit 2: Also, not that anyone cares, but I can’t reply and have a conversation about topics due to limited posting privileges - apologies if I can’t reply!

I used to set (I made an edit from 'write' to 'set' for the pernickety) crosswords for the Independent in the later 2010s, and didn't know about Lebedev's ownership. I can't say I wouldn't have done it, but I dunno.

I’m getting the sinking feeling that those greedy bald ginger cnuts will still be in charge after all this.

I fear if they stay, we would see levels of unpleasantness which could surpass Everton. Both public bidders have essentially called out the negligence under their ownership, whether they like it or not.

I can obviously see the difference. The discourse has been happening however for a long time (as I already stated) and overall the discourse is a good thing. Again though its not driven imo by Qatar and United. Its something that has been happening that precedes that.

Not sure if the translation is correct…

For those who don't know, the interviewer is asking if Qatar now owns Manchester Utd and the reply is that the takeover is done. Bit strange considering it's supposed to be a private investor

People are just asking.
Personally I think they are but it’s no surprise that sort of elitism is rarified air so link A to Link B isn’t as gotcha as made out.
Are these billionaires not allowed to branch out? There’s companies created out of thin air to recover covid loans and business from their ties with corrupt UK government, are they state owned now? It’s a weak example but look at the ties and career boosts major UK people in power get by just going to Eton.
People have asked but all I’m reading is posters quoting other posters confirming it amongst themselves and patting each other on the back.
Nobody is arguing there aren’t links but there is a difference in being state owned and the assumption of being state owned.

Interesting. These private bidders really need to declare themselves at some point to the fans and open up on their vision.

The problem is they don't, they could be a group who cares little what the fans think and do it all privately until the day.

Whatever discourse has been driven hadn't resulted in openly transphobic material being published by popular United supporters groups until now. You must acknowledge that's tremendously harmful to our LGBTQ+ supporters and cannot simply be handwaved away by some vague statement about "discourse happening for a long time"?

Pretty much nail on head.
It may well be but people should not be pretending they know it is which is very annoying

People should also not pretend that there is a viable source of wealth for this takeover that isn't directly from the state and the inherent ownership dynamic that creates.

Its Qatar bid for British club. Kind of like “British bid for British club”.

Then why aren't people asking where it's coming from then? If INEOS can be correctly scrutinised in detail for where they're getting the money, where they're loaning it from, whose going to benefit, what the debt will be etc etc... Why is a guy whose personal wealth is less than Ratcliffe's by about £4b, and even the 'Private fund he has access to' is less than what INEOS can access, not being scrutinised at all, despite promising to do waaaay more? - Clear the debt completely, invest in everything, give us all magic rainbows shooting out of our arses!

I've been asking this all day and yet to have a single good answer. It's perfectly fair to assume it's coming from the state if absolutely no one else is willing to tell us where it is coming from, or ever ask!... Despite spending huge walls of text telling us it's definitely better than the other guy, who definitely doesn't have same amounts needed. No? Surely? Otherwise it just looks like obfuscation

Just dipping into this “debate” now and again. The decision on who buys will come down to the sellers and the highest bid but it’s depressing to see how many of my fellow fans see Qatar as attractive, even desirable owners.

For me, the debate can’t get past gay and trans rights. If we truly believe we are a club for everyone then how are we so welcoming of this lot and their medieval views?
