Club Sale | It’s done!

Twitter is unbearable with all the children wanting dictators, Musk and investment firms. Glazers selling should feel like a relief, but instead I'm terrified Sir Jim won't sign the dotted line.

Not sure he has enough for all we need which I know sounds mental when he's worth £21bn

How are people still thinking net worth has anything to do with how they are as owners? Besides, we don't need cash injections, we need to be debt and dividend free so we can spend the club's own money on infrastructure and transfers.

Liverpool fans must have been disappointed when they pulled out.
They were left high and dry! They got those 2 jokers Hicks and Gillett

Pretty sure that was Dubai Investment Capital, a completely different entity
They're called 'Dubai holding' now and have assets worth $130bn. They're not interested in purchasing a football club according to reports. Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) on the other hand is reportedly interested and have assets worth $305bn.
Thanks for correcting me :)

They can and they will if Dubai make a take it or leave it offer. They can just buy Liverpool instead of paying daft money
I can't see it. I really disagree. Dubai will go hard for it for pretty big reasons. Firstly its been stated the crown prince is a Manchester United fan. Even spent time with Cristiano Ronaldo when he was a Man United player. Plus the biggest club in England with the most global fanbase is on the market which won't happen again for 20 years at least. You really think Dubai will put in a pitiful effort. If an Arab state/country wants something they get it. Look at the Fifa world cup. Qatar won hosting rights. Also out of the interested parties they are by far the richest and can offer the most. Glazers won't be able to resist and will accept it.

From what I've heard they both used to support United together and their favourite player was Ronaldo, Prince Hamdan is also now good friends with Ronaldo.
In response to someone saying they will just put in a take it or leave it offer, I disagreed and said they will try very hard. Am I right here? I just can't see them from what you said about them supporting Manchester United not trying hard. Sounds like when they want something they usually do all they can to get it.

Harris and Blitzer would be interesting, they own my NHL team, the new jersey devils. Some good branding opportunities by having two devil teams...

Imagine being a gay player for our club and the owner is the crown prince of this rule:

"All sexual activity outside of heterosexual marriage is illegal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and carries a penalty of “confinement for a minimum period of one year” "

feck that. We as people should condemn that sort of thing with every power we got.

And it aint ok because we're gonna bid for Mbappe or renew the stadium, that shit aint ok. Period

not denying your point but gay footballers still aren't able to come out properly even in the UK because of the amount of homophobia in the game.

Are we going to be DICed or we will end up in the hands of Brexit Glazer?

But you don’t mind UK selling weapons to Saudis who then use them to kill innocent women and children?

Safe to say we aren't gonna be totally united (excuse the pun) as a fanbase whoever takes over the club due to various factors

I wouldn’t mind that duo of the Boston Celtics co-owner and the Toronto Maple Leafs guy. Those are two of the largest and most valuable sports teams in North America, in both Basketball and Ice Hockey respectively.

edit: both franchises would be worth at least double what Newcastle sold to the Saudis for

What are their names again

It is rather being realistic after 2 decades of destruction

Its not being realistic to speculate the worst without having any idea.

The Caf is so self deprecating at times it’s very sad.

The news that the Glazers could well be going should bring delight. Instead we have posters trying mental gymnastics to suggests they’ve actually been good owners and each one of the newly mentioned interested parties is worse…

Classic hallmark of not wanting to leave an abusive relationship.

I don't know whether it was brought up or not, but what happens to the debt that came from the LBO which allowed the Glazers to buy the club in the first place, surely a new owner will not accept any debt after paying 6 billions to acquire the club.

I’m sure it will be factored in to the price

This is going to look like one of those games where you have multiple choices to combine options into a whole but with limited amount of money.

You have 10 bucks

1) Owner who cares - 5 bucks
2) Owner who has sufficient money - 6 bucks
3) No shady consortium or oil money - 5 bucks
4) No sportswashing, human rights violations etc. - 5 bucks
5) CEO is United fan - 4 bucks

We could potentially walk right into another Glazers situation if an US company takes over. Also, since the current owners will just sell to the highest bidder, it will be hard for anyone to compete if an Arab state steps up.

Its quite simple. The new owners will be the people who bid the highest. Glazers don't care if they are from the US or middle east. I know they have made some idoitic decision but they aren't that stupid in accepting a lower bid. Therefore speculating they will be US owners is pointless. Out of all the interested parties the investment corporation of dubai have the means to bid the highest so chances are they will.

I think everyone is being a little naive here. This 'story' was obviously timed just after the Cristiano story to stop people talking about that.

We already knew the Glazers were seeking investment to fund stadium redevelopment and that a sale was possible but not preferred.

I don't think anything has changed and that a sale is no more likely now than it was in the summer when Jim Ratcliffe said they didn't want to sell.

If you look at Ineos record as owners it paints a very grim picture. Thats why a lot of us dont want them and Jim

Bloody hell. Some of the replies on here.

We have been through 17 years of shitty ownership and we have fans on here arguing over things that haven’t even happened yet. It should be celebrated that the Glazers are even considering selling let alone putting the club up for sale.

Forget about the purchase price. That means little to us. What we need is an owner who is willing to invest at least 1+ billion into the infrastructure of the club and probably another billion into the playing staff over the next 3 or 4 years.
That’s an astronomical amount of money and the pool of people who can afford to do that are minuscule, the pool is even smaller for people who want to do it.

We have two options as far as I can see.
1 – An investor or investor group who will want to see a return on their money. Profit before success.
2 - A state that will use the club for PR purposes but will run the club effectively and not for profit.

Neither option is great but we are just too big off a club now to have any other options. Maybe people are underestimating just how much £1 billion is let alone £8 or £9 billion

Be nice if he can find a partner or two. Probably better that one man isn't in total charge (cf Musk). Preferably person/people who at least know our history or, better still, are United supporters (how rich is David Beckham these days? Joking, he surely isn't anyone close enough). At least the figure being quoted is, I presume, out of Murdoch's range...

So you think it will just die out?

Don't like option 1. Also if the new owner is about profit, I doubt they want to spend 1 billion on infrascture and a further 1 billion on players. On the other hand, a state happily would. Your right though. If its a state, people shouldn't complain. Due to the Glazers mismanagement we have to spend a vast amount to compete.

There's no perfect billionaire folks, we're not all going to agree on the right person to buy United but the fact still stands that the modal that most people want is by and large an state funded owner.

Avram Glazer doesn’t commit to selling the club in that quote , I can def see a situation where we sell just part of the club for a hefty fee and the glazers cling on.

Unfortunately its the only to way compete. I am suprised so many billionaires want to buy Manchester United. It will cost a fortune to buy the club then another fortune to invest. Thats why I doubt Jim Ratcliffe will buy it.

Based on a quick google search, if the outright sale happens in the form of stock sale, then normally the buyer assumes the liabilities, current debt on the club as of June 2022 is £514.9m, but most of it was incurred due to the LBO and not due to operational requirements, which might complicate the sale, unless, as you say, the valuation is structured in a way that accounts for the half billion debt (for example Club valued at 6B, sold for 5.5B).

That wont happen. Who in their right mind would give those incompetent owners their money. They are selling because that is probably not an option now.

There is no way anyone will go as high as £8bn or £9bn. Most I've seen quoted is five. There was some discussion a few weeks ago when Sir Jim R first talked about buying us. I said then it would stir the Glazers enough to at the very least think of selling and I was pretty much shouted down. My guess is one of their bankers is squeezing them now that interest rates are on the rise. No idea what the difference is between what they were paying this time last year and what they are paying now. Astronomical, I would guess.

It would be nice if we could find someone as like Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha as possible. Probably not perfect but seemed decent enough and took the club to heart, but finding that - with he/she being a bit richer -- might be a pipe dream. It is, of course, more than possible we'll get another version of the Glazers. They won't give a damn who they sell to...
