Homosexuality is still illegal in Dubai and it is still regularly criticised for human rights violations. Being one of the more liberal states where that is the case isn't enough. It's still abhorrent.

The rate which Dubai is progressing towards a liberal society both politically and religiously, you kinda half-expect that by 2030 that wouldn't be an issue anymore. All I know is boycotting would cause more harm than international pressure and dialogue.

According to sky it will probably be an American consortium

I think it will likely be this too. Those who missed out from the Chelsea bid plus some new consortiums as well. Can't imagine Middle East interest in the club

Good for them. But this is reality 2022, not imaginary 2030. They should be nowhere near our club as it stands.

I would bite your hand off if you offered me new owners with the moral compass of the Glazers (as long as they are competent - committed to wiping the dept, improving the club infrastructure and investing competitively).
Anyone associated with G.W Bush, is morally dirty. Anyone associated with an Israeli PM, is 100% morally dirty. They are not better than the likes of psg owners.

You don’t need extreme wealth to compete with City on spending.
United are already bigger and have much further reach than City or Newcastle, it would be like someone buying Barcelona it could self sustain instantly.

Initial purchase would be large but most of the money the clubs spend would be its own.

Dont be blinded thinking we need equal wealth to Qatar, Abu Dhabi or Saudis That wealth is wonderful but it’s not like they use that entire wealth to spend they use a tiny tiny percentage to invest into these clubs to get them to a point of sustainability and propping themselves up.
The issue goes beyond sustainability for us. We need a new stadium or at the very least a considerable revamp of OT, as well as renewed facilities, and bringing up the club to modern standards. All that is going to cost us potentially billions. And thats not even going into the investment into the squad that we need to stay remotely competitive. Like it or not we're going to need a considerable investment in the immediate term, and the only suitors who are capable or willing to inject the required funds in the short term are the Middle Eastern ones.

To be fair 36 pages is a lot considering it’s not even been 24 hours since the news broke.
It’s not bad in normal terms but this is potentially the beginning of the end of the Glazers - if it ends in fit and proper owners then United should be as big as Real Madrid and title challenging again

I’m sure the Ronaldo thread after his interview quotes started leaking was much higher at this point

Yeah that's how I see it. I'd love to know how much American consortiums plan to make from this. The Glazers got lucky...but making money out of football is like picking a winner at the Grand National.

Bush is a stretch but not Israel. absolutely reprehensive regime.
No doubt, and I'm not claiming the Glazers are saints. But even if all things were equal, supporting those things and being the ones responsible for those things are entirely different circumstances

At £4-5bn I can't see one person buying the club - much more likely to be a consortium (if not a country...). But here's a something to make some people here curse, Cristiano Ronaldo is probably rich enough to be part of any consortium...:nono::):) (joking)

My hope is the considerable investment required will put off the Yanks. They tend to be in it to squeeze as much money out of their investment (like our very own parasites), so expecting to drop billions off the bat might be off putting. Arabs on the other hand see clubs as (unfortunately) a sport-washing venture or merely a vanity project. They'll be less inclined to worry about overheads required and more obsessed with having the best in class.

The Glazers are looking for $5-$9bn? But the Dubai Consortium are going to offer $10.6bn? Which is the top end of the scale. If that is an indication of their commercial acumen, then it's not a good sign :D

sorry, misread the conversation. yes, agreed.

It's an indication that no one has a bloody clue.

The writing was on the wall, but still can’t believe it’s happening! I didn’t check caf or any football news yesterday, came on today to see Ronaldo is gone and the Glazers almost gone! Wild day yesterday.

It's a matter of opportunity. If you can support something abhorant, you'd likely do it to - given the opportunity.

Elon Musk started computer programing and invented how we today read «live» newspapers online. Then invented paypal and had to sell and got 160m dollars. Then Tesla and so on. You might not like the guy but he is a genious

Who cares what he invented! Does that make it ok to be a prick?

I don't understand this fanboy attitude... these people live in a different world, and here we are defending them like they are saints and our best mate.

Because other billionaires are also not saints doesn't make it ok either.

What's the appeal? Genuinely can't think of many places less appealing.

Its great for us as a family. The hotels are really good, the one we're staying in has a waterpark which is perfect for the kids. My daughter loves the giant aquarium in dubai mall. Plus its warm in december so greaet for us to get away.
