I get that.
But when you never hear the word 'no' then if he wants it he will get it.
He has so much money that he couldnt spend it in 1000 lifetimes

True, but in my experience, even very wealthy people do not like feeling as though they are being ripped off. Anyway, we shall see - within 10 days or so we should have a better idea about how many of the press reports in the last few days were true and how many of them were Raine / the Glazers desperately trying to drum up interest.

I’ve just accepted this is just the next step in the evolution of football. The warning signs were there when Murdoch tried to buy us in 1998/99, everyone was disgusted by it and swore to stop supporting if it went through.

Then came Abramovich, then came the American opportunists, then came the Middle East. The Americans are starting to rejig their plans by having new consortiums or they’re just cashing in completely.

Arsenal will get oil money sooner or later, so will Liverpool and so will Spurs. The end result being the Premier League IS the Super League.

disagree. most of us can see the moral complexity of the situation, but for someone to make themselves feel particularly superior to others in saying theyll walk away to then not follow through with it (which the vast majority of them won't), is 100% worth of mockery
I don't think they are doing it to feel superior. I think you are just insecure.

Since he is a fan and filthy rich, now whatever its worth, Qatar takeover is fine with me.

All the whitewashing projects took a relatively unknown team to glory, but the level of scrutiny that comes with Manchester United football club might end up benefiting Qatar as well and improve some of the things that needs correction. If not then there is nothing else we can do anyway.

Whoever it may be, I hope they will keep the staff intact. After years of struggles it seems that United is finally able to build towards something under ETH. Would be very wasteful to see a Chelsea 2.0

You are attributing an intent there (to makes oneself feel superior) when that may not be warranted. They may simply be expressing how they feel at this moment. Again, I don't think it is worthy of mocking fellow reds, some of whom will definitely be questioning whether they need to walk away from something that may have been a massive part of their lives for many years. You are not really in any position to question their motives or their conviction.

People called bullshit on those who talked of walking away in 2005 - but many of them did and then went as far as forming a new club.

If some of them later find that the connection to United is too strong to cut loose from, that's hardly a risible position to take. If anything, it's understandable.

Insecure posters getting very defensive over their positions. If you’d just say “i care more about my team winning than my team not being owned by state sponsored human rights abusers” we could all move on. YOU sticking your head in the sand on this, does not make any counter arguments a moral high horse, and absolutely not racist or xenophobic. Grow up.

For you perhaps, but most fans will continue to support the club, irrespective of who owns it.

Our loyalty is to the club, not whichever scummy billionaire who owns it for whatever heinous motivations they have.
This is it for me.

No matter who owns the club, Man United is man United.

The heart and soul of the club is it's history and fans, not who own the deeds.

Elon Musk or Qatar what a choice:eek:

Would have to be Musk for me though his knows what that works being. He would probably make himself Manager and sack Ten Hag first day

There will be a lot of heat that comes with Qatar ownership, far more scrutiny than City and Newcastle ever experienced. Guaranteed there will be a massive media uproar about state ownership, human rights etc, the second it can be used against us. Questions about the integrity and death of the game incoming.

Qatar has invested in twitter as well. So if Qatar state wants United, Musk wont get it most likely.

Same here, as much as I'd prefer the club not to be owned by the Glazer's or another iffy family, an investment group, or a state-backed enterprise the reality is we are and will be

Maybe they'll give UEFA a guarantee that they'll sell PSG in a couple of years?

Not sure if the bbc article has already been posted and discussed but it looks like the PSG president will have to use his position as chairman of ECA to get this over the line and get UEFA to modfidy rules on dual ownership.

Why is Al-Khelaifi key?
I don’t really think any rules need to be modified given Red Bull and City Group. Wonder why it’s a problem for us and not them?

The parting gift from the Glazers - selling Man Utd to that disgusting qatar regime.

The worse thing that ever happened to Utd was the Glazers.

For me personally, the moment that sale takes place, Man Utd cease to exist.

Thats terrible. Can't we just not bend the rules for a proper takeover. Feels like cheating.

I don’t particularly like the Glazer’s and what they have done to our club, but now that things seems to be turning around and we are heading in the right direction, I somehow wish they wouldn’t sell us.
No matter who ends up buying the club I fear it will be the beginning of the end.
Football as we know it and love it is doomed unless FFP rules are rewritten and enforced so that clear breaches like we see at PSG and City will not happen again.

Dual ownership issue is not that big of a deal. Red Bull has already shown how to get away with it. And also they wont bid unless they have the waiver for this. We are talking about 5bn dollars bid.

The only thing about that is - the ‘heart and soul’ of the club will now be irreversibly changed.

Depressing read. Subverting the rules is already needed to even make it a feasible bid in the first place.

Steady. Worth noting that Qatar have not actually submitted a bid (at least not yet). Indeed we don't in fact have confirmation of any interested parties, aside from Ratcliffe. At this moment, it is very much 'paper talk' (and, from the Glazers' perspective, highly-convenient paper talk at that). We should hear next week who actually put in offers in advance of Friday's deadline and whether the Glazers are minded to accept any of them. Don't get too excited, there is still the possibility for massive, crushing disappointment here!

Bloomberg confirming Qatar's interest is more than just paper talk. It's real.

It's really not hard that hard to believe that this would be the straw that broke the camel's back for many people. You'll be surprised to learn that several thousand fans left the club when the Glazers took over and formed their own club. Some people have a different moral compass to your own - shock!

Again I must be being naive, but why is it only an issue for Qatar/PSG when Ratcliffe also owns Nice? Same competitions or not, it is a dual ownership with the POTENTIAL (even if small) to cause same issue as United/PSG

You don't have to take money out of an investment to get a return on an investment. Capital appreciation is a concept shareholders are not unaware of.

Look at the amount of money the Glazers took out of the club per year, then compare it to the amount of money they have made through the asset appreciating in value, then count how many years it would take for INEOS pay off the cost of buying the club by leeching that money out of the club, then take a look at their annual income as it stands. At that point it should be clear why taking money out of the club isn't going to be a pressing concern for any stakeholder involved.
Yes the Glazers have made that obvious to anyone that had not thought of it before, but it doesn't alter the principle. The Glazers haven't invested in the stadium in the way United had before, or spent as much on players as they could have (until they became desperate out of the CL), because their end goal has always been profit. An owner who's end goal was not profit would be quite a different animal.

We've been told that, if the Glazers just spend our own revenue on the club, then we'll be fine. So surely INEOS could do that? Nobody is buying us to make a profit anymore. We're simply not worth investing £5b+ for £20m per year dividend. Waste of time.

Some will want to spend the money in hope of building the value of the club, and not by dividends payments.

We would be a financial investment for INEOS, and a small vanity project. With ME investors, it would be the other way around.
