ok...first off 15% increase in the stock price is insane value for anyone who owns a substantial amount of shares

secondly....anyone who is worth 335billion well taht is just downright disgusting to have that much wealth. The question of that wealth is it liquidable assets?? or is that based on tehm being the ruling family of Qatar and that is based on value of the State for oil and other investments?

Pep Guardiola is a decent manager (but I'd be a decent manager with prime Lionel Messi in my team!). I think we are seeing recently that without a strong assistant manager (e.g. Mikel Arteta) he is prone to making weird decisions - the team setup vs Spurs on Sunday for example, and when he did get City to a CL final he decided to 'experiment' when if he had stuck to the system and the players that had got them there, he would have probably won it.

Nah Pep has always been an eccentric tactician experimenting all over the place. I mean he was the one that stuck Messi in the middle and popularized the whole "false 9" position in recent times. Also turned Lahm into a DM at Bayern, as well as a bunch of other stuff. Don't think the other day was any different. It's the one drawback you get with Pep, he's always trying to outsmart the game and sometimes it comes back to bite him.

It's his family being worth that much, and definitely isn't liquid to that extent. Definitely more based on them being the ruling family

This is true, it wouldn't surprise me to see Haaland in goal at the weekend (Edersons not that great anyway) he could go up for corners and probably get as many touches as he does playing No. 9!

I'm not a great believer in what he says but Phil Brown said this in Dec:

But whether or not he was just stating what I thought would be an obvious thing I dunno.

so that goes back to the purchase then of making the club debt free again plus rebuilding/revamping Old Trafford. Purchase price is 6billion and another billion say for infrastructure would require some significant liquidable assets and not "borrowing" money from the state

Phil should get credit for this. I listen to his podcast and he absolutely called this.

Qatar and Abu Dhabi have no love lost between each other. If they get United and propel us to new heights while Citeh crumble, it's satisfaction enough for them.

this wouldn't shock me one bit given Beckham's relationship with them from his time at PSG

Isn’t it an easy enough shout when Beckham is working with Qatar before this and Glazer was literally photographed over there?

Do we really want to risk the club especially after what happen at shitty ?
City are a non-club. They couldn't and still can't afford their spending. We can. All we need is an owner who will take care of the other side of business - debt and infrastructure mainly. The club has more than enough revenue to pay for wages and transfer expenses.

We get owned by any of them oil states and 7 years from now we'll get dragged down the same mud the city cnuts are in now. Don't trust them for shits. They'll stain the club with their filth. It is a very sad fact that it's looking close to really happening.

The reason why City wanted to cheat or had to is that they wanted to inject financial steriods into the business to grow the club quickly -- rather than organically.

United doesn't have to grow its revenues that quickly in order for us to compete -- it's already there.

We can increase commercial revenues further by winning consistently. Thats a football management issue -- not financial as proven during Woodward's reign.

It's debatable whether matchday revenues will be that critical going forward (and thus the need for a new and bigger stadium/major infrastructure investment) ---- since commercial revenues will eventually outstrip matchday revs by a substantial amount.

Beckham and Qatar... wonder where he got that idea.

Easy this twitter lark

I always hate this argument. Do you love your hotel, the aircraft you fly, gas in your hob, mobile phone supplier, the car you drive as you love United and have a connection with? Anyone who doesn't like us going that path, just let them. Why always bring up these stupid arguments. I, myself, am not sure how I feel about it and how I will feel if it actually happens. If its a consortium, it might be different, but even then I'm not sure.
I agree with your statement 100% but unfortunately we are not in an either/or situation which is hard on everyone because every supporter will have a struggle with it one way or another. It's difficult to find a billionaire in the ideal status to invest in this club and much less, a Man Utd supporting billionaire.

His personal wealth is his family's and, therefore, his country's wealth. If he's getting involved, then the Qatari state is definitely getting involved. It's why I don't think this private investment group will involve him.

Top 10 richest persons in Qatar

These Al-Thanis are everywhere!

I suspect we will see a Beckham Al-Thani on that list soon.

If they're talking of fan engagement then who better than Beckham to be the one for that.

We don't need financially doped but I'd take a one off splurge at the beginning regarding OT, Carrington and some on-field additions to bring us back to where we should have been had the Glazers not been bleeding us dry. Thereafter we tick over and keep developing with our self generate funds. Jobs a good un.

If that's all we need then Ratcliffe or any consortium can do it. We just need them to wipe out the debt and sort the stadium and put the right people in charge. Don't get the obsession with oil.

Tragic day for football, Manchester and United the day one of the great clubs becomes a plaything for Middle Eastern human rights violators.

Nothing is sacred anymore.

Maybe they can ship over the poor slave grafters from the World Cup stadia build to do the job on Old Trafford as well.

This 100%.

It’s not an Oliver Twist club or fanbase like City or Newcastle - United just needs to be unshackled to organically sustain itself at an elite level.

The stadium renovation cost could be covered by loans/naming rights, while circa £150m per annum for transfers would be generated by revenue.

To be honest, I am not a big fan of this Qatari take over..I don't understand the craze. Spending has never been our problem, thanks to our global fans/reach/merch etc. The problem has been footballing decisions and direction. Big part was hiring the right manager and it looks like we have settled down with a modern manager with a plan and not some outdated big name or a board stooge/ex-player. Next, the focus must be on buying the right players. Again, considering we just fixed the manager, this is also likely to improve.

I would be happy to get rid of the Glazers, sure. But not for a shady consortium from middle east! Not a big fan. As of now I have my reservations.

Doubt it with them already owning PSG.

The story will get a lot of clicks for the Mail though.

I don't think Ratcliffe can do it. He needs to spend 6+ billion, plus another 2 billion for the stadium and training grounds, plus another billion for the debt. And this is not a business decision because the person willing to do that wouldn't expect any sort of profit in the near future for his money. That leaves only oil states or tech giants. The latter is highly unlikely because they don't need to invest in football clubs

This is a misunderstanding of what has happened at City. They have cooked the books and used creative accounting in order to bypass premier league rules on spending and financial fair play. United would be at no risk of this.

We don't need oil money to compete but it's the quickest path to clearing the debt those leeches saddled us with.
For me its not about transfers or even the debt because I believe a few seasons of continuous CL qualifications will see our revenues bring it to an acceptable level or if wished ensure we pay it down over the years.

My biggest wish is to see the back of the Glazers and their business model where they entrust an Accountant with the decision making power over football matters for a decade. That incompetence is shocking.

Why would someone simply put money from their own pocket ? If they clear the debt it would be by keeping Club as a collateral. No one is putting their personal money because they love the club.

If it's a company, the trust won't approve putting 4 billion from their assets either. It's how corporate Financials work !

It's either Ratcliffe but with debts on the club to be continued, limited budget , stadium would be another challenge and so on.

Or state club trying to create an image who has unlimited money and the club would be self sufficient going forward.
