Andy Mitten said on yesterday's Talk Of The Devils podcast that he understands from a very well-placed source that the current delay is the non-executive directors on United's Board taking their time to review and sign-off the deal and that it is a long and tedious process.
What mitten said re. Dual ownership of clubs potentially in the same European competition.

Of all the theories thrown out there for the delays, that is among the least plausible for me. They've known about this for well over a year. This isn't a problem that suddenly popped up. Red Bull did not have much trouble handling this, and you know we will hardly hear a peep about Girona. My best guess is the delays are just due to the Glazers being their typical selves, or the deal is a lot more complex than a simple 25% stake and contains a defined pathway for future equity acquisitions by the Rat Pack.In fairness Mitten said just last week that he thought the delay was around Nice and CL competition so who knows

Why is that a problem here but don’t we hear anything about Girona and Man City. Man City group own 47 percent of Girona I thought? Ratcliffe would only own 25 percent of United. And Girona is already 12 points in front of the number 5 in the Spanish league, so there is a bigger chance Girona and City will play CL next year than Nice and United.
The spot goes to the team that finishes higher in their league so City are probably not worried about ending in third while Girona finishes second in La Liga.
We're in a tough spot because if Nice finish second or third we're unlikely to get a CL spot by bettering that position.
City don't run the footballing operations of Girona do they?

Yes, I think it would matter. Mitten did mentioned that there are some legal issues when one owner has footballing control on two clubs in the same competition.

Reading on reddit that a journalist who used to be tier 1 for Newcastle related news has mentioned it happening also. Apparently Newcastle are looking to replace him with the Technical Director from Bournemouth, who has previously worked with Howe.
Oh really that sounds very promising then.
People talking about Ashworths work at Brighton and Newcastle but some of his best work was with England and the FA. He was the man behind England DNA and he is arguably the best man we could get to build a proper structure. Actual best in class.
The press don't have a clue on anything about this deal, never mind what personnel will be involved.
We seem to be the ,masters at keeping the fans on the hook whilst padding for time.
But he just started a big project at Newcastle. How realistic is it he would leave them so soon again?

Maybe he just wants to be respected for his work, which you're never really going to be at a state owned club like Newcastle.
Getting United back to the top would be a maasive achievement, and I'd imagine a massive incentive for him.

The pitch must have been quite impressive to steal Ashworth away from a literal endless money pit of a club.
I suppose if he comes to United and in 3-5 years we're challenging for big honours and the team is playing the type of football people want to see then he'll enhance his reputation immeasurably.
At Newcastle he's got a good reputation but if they started to win like city, he'll never be given full props for it because of the endless money pot that they have.
If he fails to turn united around he'll still get jobs because united is seen as a poisoned chalice
