Ooohh great spot, Hercule Pocco!

Thing is, I’m not a multi-billionaire who can be in Manchester, in an exec box in an hour if I want to.

I was GIVEN a season ticket (as my post says) while living in London and earning minimum wage. I didn’t pay for it.

I’ve also not tried to buy Palace using my Palace fandom as a ploy.

Ratcliffe has chosen Chelsea games over United, and given his very regular attendance at Chelsea while being able to attend any PL club in complete luxury coupled with attempting to also buy Chelsea, it seems fairly obvious that he’s a Chelsea fan - which is fine, but diminishes the ‘local Olde Jim the Utd fan’ narrative quite a bit.

Also his keeping Glazers on board is very out of step with someone who actually identifies a Utd fan. Any fan of Utd understands that they must be removed, completely, from the club.
Don't pay any attention. You are magnificent Weird Animal Yankovic.

Don't forget, his old man is very wealthy (far wealthier than his Forbes listing). Definitely not a state bid therefore. ;)
Didn't Forbes increase Donald Trumps wealth everytime they received and angry phone call from him? I seem to remember an interview with one of their editors who admitted this. He was donning a fedora during the interview so it was hard to take him seriously.

In Putin's case, his wealth is down to pure corruption. His actual Presidential salary is only 120k per anum. I'm sure old man al-Thani has more than his Forbes listing as well, but that's a separate issue from whether his son has the money to buy United outright and another 1 billion to build a stadium.

Sure but his father used to be prime minister and very friendly with the emir and negotiated an awful lot of purchases and investments for them, if he was a llowed a small cut of each which he might have been having been on very good terms with the old emir that would mean an awful lot of wealth he accumulated. I mean apparently Qatar spent 200bn on the world cup, its not unimaginable that a man who was once the second most powerful in Qatar could have acquired a fortune of 20bn upwards. Now to my mind, that isn't particularly separate from the state regardless but it would technically be private wealth now that he no longer holds a position

It appears Britannica have an article on Sportwashing, led by.....a photo of Qatar (followed by one of Nazi Germany's 36 Olympics).

https://www.britannica.com/topic/sportwashing

It’s not a ‘photo of Qatar’, tbf.

It’s fronted by that ridiculous draping Messi in the bish by the Emir of Qatar, which was imo completely distasteful and as blatant, cringeworthy and obvious a piece of sportswashing that you’ll ever see.

But are we gonna keep equating everything bad / cringe decision that the Qatar government has made with the specific guys that are bidding for Utd?

Jassim might’ve found that cringe, he might’ve disagreed with censoring rainbow armbands. Or not, we don’t know.

Prince Phillip was a racist, but Harry married and had children with a Black woman. Same family, different people, different views.

Stuff like this from glazed, with the ‘wash that Jassim’ comment is out there (not saying you shouldn’t be drawing attention to it glazed, but it has feck all to do with Jassim or the takeover of Utd)

Timely reminder of what the Qataris are really about. Wash that, Jassim....

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ffer-in-the-silence-of-qatars-broken-promises

It’d be like linking articles detailing Brexit’s effect on the NHS and typing ‘explain this, Jim’. It’d be ridiculous, and that’s actually a policy that we know he was into and supported.

yeah we’re getting in the weeds now but I’m not saying they don’t have to do a business plan, it’s a trivial to get a few lawyers on it

simply that, in order to get the loan Jimmy doesn’t need a business plan showing income streams Fromm United to cover it

that’s the subtext of this entire discussion, that SJR needs to do a Glazers on us and suck money out of the club to pay for the loan

maybe he will, but it would be idiotic to try and operate United by paying around 150/200m a year in loan fees from the clubs revenues..
I think to completely dismiss the possibility that none of United’s profits will ever be used is also naive.

No one knows how United might grow as a business, or if INEOS profits might fluctuate.

People seem to think the money has to be paid either from INEOS or Man United, ignoring the possibility that it could easily come from both. With INEOS most likely/logically paying off a bigger yearly proportion. But for United even £20m a year over 5 years would be £100m, enough to upgrade Carrington

I'm sure the entire al-Thani clan are all self made and none of their money emanates from the state.

Some people here seem to actually believe that. I don't want to upset anyone's feelings by suggesting that view might be a little ... implausible.

Harry left the British royal family because he recognised it was an inherently racist institution. Jassim is still in the Qatari royal family and if you thing he's paying for United from his own money I can only tell you that he doesn't have any. It's all oil money and it comes from the Emir. Or do you think Jassim made it himself? There's no such thing as private wealth in an absolute monarchy.

Wouldn't it be classified as inter-generational wealth or soon to be? Like lots of wealthy people in the West.

I don't think that's quite true, the Saudis arresting people in 2017 or 2018 whenever it was, they demanded they make payment to the state from their private wealth, they weren't able to just seize it. It's more akin to russia, that while billionaires have private wealth, they don't have any power compared to the state and their wealth (or their life) can be demanded by the head of state, so while the lines are certainly blurry, I wouldn't say there's no private wealth in these countries at all, its not totally independent from the state, and the only people who can acrue it have links to the state, but it does become private wealth at a point

genuinely asking : Can't the premiere league do something ? why are they silent if they can ?

They let Glazers to take over and saddle with debt, so much that it cost club billions without clearing any of it. Now they have banned leveraged take over, so no club with take a financial hit like ManUtd.

They let City, Newcastle win the lottery but you want or expect them to stop this deal? How is it any different from City or Newcastle take over? (Assuming something most accept that all 3 are state backed bids).

It's clear the leeches will drag this on as long as possible if they think it'll get them an extra penny so I'm logging off this thread. My baseline assumption is that it won't get done before the next season begins.

Yeah starting to accept that situation now

The gods of football demand at least 2,000 pages before it's done. It's logical.

The wealth of the arrested Saudis also come from the state. Talal, despite being made out to be some sort of private investor, is first and foremost Saudi royal and the grandson of the first King of the nation.

The money of Russian billionaires (oligarchs) is Putin's money, who in turn allows them to deploy it on his behalf to advance his interests. Most Russian money also emanates from the state through oil/gas/and other natural resources

I reckon we get to 3k pages before Howard Nurse posts some conclusion on this. Willing to take bets !

Anyone working in the big buisness care to explain what’s going on all this time? I guess they ain’t just sitting in a room and raising hands with bids. So, they must have decided a long time ago who they want and they starting to carve out all the paperwork? Otherwise what’s going on all these days? Guess there is alot going on around the clock to work out details, contracts etc. It can’t be the goblins sitting in their golf car and thinking about the bids for seven months?

I am not even sure Glazers wants to sell. They are just looking for investors to give them money. They want to keep majority ownership.

This time next year it will still be the Glazers.

I don't think that will be the case. They have gone too deep into this. They will lose their business reputation and no one will want to touch them if they were on a fishing expedition.

Besides, financially their ability to manoeuvre going forward is a lot more restricted when considering:

a) the ever-expanding of PL rivals and
b) the financial debt outstanding (given the expected raising interest rates) and
c) the hollowing out of existing resources including (having kicked the can down the road the past 10yrs) for the infrastructure investments.

Thats why Jassim's bid is beyond what the cyants (Glazers) deserve.

Not even a shit twitter rumour over the weekend. Hard to believe we finally hear a conclusion this week

I think the silence points to us soon reaching a conclusion. It looks like Qatar are currently in the lead with discussions started around an exclusive period. Meanwhile they are waiting to see if Ratcliffe can beat The Qatari offer - the fact he’s had to be so creative with his offer already by being flexible with the percentage of the club he is trying to purchase promising the Glazers future earnings suggests that he’s already hit his spending threshold so it seems unlikely he’s going to put another offer in that values the club even higher and tips the balance back towards him.

My prediction is early this week we will have Ratcliffe briefing his favourite journalists that he’s withdrawing from the process leaving Qatar clear to enter the exclusive period.

Several pics has him with his dad. Seems like he's the favourite son.
