Middle east is such a strange geographical term. There isn't a middle west or an almost north.

It's so transparent and it occurs every so often in the thread. Usually cries of racism or equating criticism of the ultra wealthy ruling elite with an attack on the entire Arab world.

Yet the silence when things like the suffering of certain groups under these regimes is brought up, apparently we shouldn't care at all because this is football and we're gonna win the lot again

And people wonder why we keep getting back to the whole morals thing.

Did you read the original post? The guy literally called it “primitive cultures”. You think he means the ruling elite?

Almost as bizarre as the indifference to those who suffer under these regimes from some on here. Long as we win and all that, right?

Do you think closer ties with the west culturally will improve things in these countries over the long term, or do you think total rejection of them and making them a more insular culture will improve things?

Not that things are great in Saudi Arabia but over the last 5 years they've given women the right to drive and go out by themselves and I don't think that happens without the western cultural influence. So is your being uncomfortable more important than things improving on a practical level for people living there? I'm not saying that over the next 5 years that owning man united will lead to full acceptance of lgbt people in these countries. But over the next generation or two, growing up with closer cultural ties certainly will make a difference

If the rumours are true, that the Glazers want to sell to Qatar, I guess they also want to make it as fast as possible now when they got an acceptable bid. If they drag out the process further Jassim may say: "feck it". Then the Glazers are stuck with SJR bid or no bid at all. Obviously they understood that they can´t milk United any longer. Now all the expenses are piling up instead. So instead of making money they may have to invest themselves. Not ideal.

Absolutely no one has suggested it is
Yet here you are, arms out wide, embracing powerful people who have strong links to that abhorrent regime.

Lets just call it as it is, its fecking disgraceful that Manchester United is going to be associated with this now.

Are slavery and women being second class citizens, and homophobia "modern" ideas to you, yeah?

Give over with your "wow"
Honestly take away slavery and you could easily be talking about the Western world here...

Of course, in United (Glazers) fashion, we'll be bought by a state just when being owned by one has next to no benefits, only negativity. And because it's United it'll be amplified by the media a thousand times. Everything we do or manage to do will be labeled with "the sheikh spent billions". Even if it's not true.

At least PSG, City and Chelsea were able to spend like maniacs, inflating prices and basically destroying the market and football for years before the FFP. We won't even have that.

Who said I or anyone else is doing that?

Manchester United aren’t going to be associated with an abhorrent regime because they’re a football club based in Manchester.

So long as this investment also includes 'best in class' or at least 'top bracket' DOF, plus up and coming young striker, midfielder with pace who can handle pressure and break lines in CM and a goalkeeper capable of passing out and sweeping, then I think this is fine.

What's going to happen then, are new owners just going to sanction a new stadium right off the bat? There's plenty of discussions and planning that has to happen first I doubt all that can happen in the matter of two months. The team and the infrastructure need significant investment. They will do both.

It’s going to be a glorious day when Qatar buys us just to see the reactions of yourself and @glazed crying yourself to sleep at the thought of Arab owners. I can’t fecking wait. And you know what? I’d love it if you continued to support us. I’d absolutely love it.

i’d subscribe to your oilyfans.

You would imagine that there’s people at the club who’ve already done the homework on this stuff and it’s a matter of budget and getting the green light.

I genuinely feel some people might just spontaneously combust now, utterly consumed by fanatical rage and rabid hatred, because not everyone thinks as they do. Seen some vicious insults being thrown at people celebrating the takeover.

Ultimately, the parasites are gone. That is good.

anyone seen the company house details

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14938922

Sheikh Jassim setup as a director today in the UK. The other chap registered as the director in this incorporation filing, Abdulrahman Abdulla AL-ANSARI works in the Qatar Investments more specifically in the mergers and acquisition group.

*Edit* It would appear Abdulla is one of many similar names in Qatar. The director listing is a different person to the QIA guy, never the less Jassim has registered, clear movement.

Spoken like someone that has no actual clue.

Women are second class citizens in the US to this day. Especially women of color. Slavery has evolved to something far more subtle but with continuing effects that will ripple for future generations. And homophobia is rampant with any company that so much as flies a rainbow flag for one month a year getting boycotted and suffering vitriol as part of a "go woke go broke" movement.

I honestly can give a second chance to the ignorance from some non western cultures who haven't had a chance to really truly embrace progressive movements that go against their culture and history. In contrast to a United States built on it but then adding the addendum that it was really only about freedom for rich white men.

Give over eh. Unbelievable that you would defend a blatantly racist post. Shameful but perhaps no surprise considering how a concerning segment of United and English football "fans" think about and treat players of color.

Some of you describe Middle east countries like it is Mordor with Sauron as a ruler.

Its denial or cover up of and for racism.

I know the Glazers had architect in to look at redevelopment but who knows what's going to happen, maybe Qatar would prefer building a new stadium or moving training grounds.

Middle east is such a strange geographical term. There isn't a middle west or an almost north.

It’s a product of British imperial strategy at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries that slowly caught on globally over the course of the 20th century to the point that it is now in common usage along the people of the region itself.

Once we decided owners who wanted to make money from us was abhorrent despite the fact we've never, ever had an ownership structure that didn't, state-ownership or those with ties to foreign states was inevitable.

Celebrating 99% of takeovers in modern football is bizarre. Oh great, a bunch of rich nobheads are coming in as a vanity project - rejoice!

Lots of countries do things with which i don't agree but i would never call entire nation or culture as primitives. Calling entire nation as primitive is a shocking thing to do.

I think most major European teams have a second stadium at the training ground. So they’ll probably move from where they currently are after building something new. In regards to the stadium it will probably be whatever yields the highest capacity so they can fleece the corporate seats.

Qatar, Saudi, UAE, are there any other oil nations that are ruled by autocrats that could look to get in on the action and buy e.g. Liverpool or Arsenal?

Iran are more of a 'real' nation with some form of democracy so wouldn't happen. Bahrain, Kuwait? Do these have sovereign wealth funds?
