FFP is a joke, lets put it that way.

Chelsea spent 247m 3 summers ago
600m last season.

They have one of the biggest squads with high earners, yet they are good with FFP

Yet United, a club that spend their own money with 0 owners investment is close to breach FFP.

Why on earth would you pick two seasons like that? During the last 10 seasons United have a net spend 2-3x Chelsea's. United's wage bill is higher than Chelsea's by quite a margin.

I didn't say it would be every summer, I said that we could do it this summer, hopefully by next year we'd have had some success to show but just for laughs here's chelsea's last 5 years spending from transfer market

22/23: 611m
21/22: 113m
20/21: 245m
19/20: 45m
18/19: 208m

So over a billion in 5 years, it hardly seems like they have to reign themselves in

Our estimated transfer budget to stay compliant with FFP already takes amortisation into account, of course.

United spend a lot more on transfers than Chelsea.

I suspect very quickly we'll see something like Qatar Airways become our shirt sponsor as we conveniently are on the lookout for a shirt sponsor. Now of course we always get big deals. But we'll get that few percent extra bigger deals. Newcastle already we see it there - they get a shirt sponsor in the most upper end of the believable for a club of their size. Without being Saudi owned, they would simply not get as much for their deal. So we'll see similar stuff with United. Loads of random sponsors all linked to Qatar all offering at the upper end of fair value.

To add to it, it's not simply that it will almost definitely at some point happen. It's that we are in the position where we simply can do it. If succeeding through normal methods doesn't quite work, they'll do what is required under the table to make it happen just like has happened at other state owned club. We don't play by the same rules as 99% of the competition anymore. Risk doesn't exist for the club. It's just... How much is needed to get the job done? We won't feel any impact of shit transfers like we do now. We'll just buy another 50m fullback the next year like City do. And as you say, we'll pump loads into the facilities for sure. Great. Except it's not earned, it's just gifted to win over people by a state with no financial limits. It's sports washing. Like, it's fine if you or others don't care about that. But myself and many others really do and it's the last thing we ever wanted United to become. It taints success, it tampers the pride and joy you get from football, it impacts the tribalism in football, it hinders the competitive fairness in football.

And to add, now when any single social issue comes up in the world, the club now has to play this awkward shuffle by half pretending to care about equality while being owned by a state that actively implements rules against those same issues.

I fully believe that the club is capable of getting back to the top without Qatar
. It's disappointing as we finally got the manager right and just need time and some smart transfers to make it work and we'd get there. And now we have them, it'll taint it when we eventually do get there. It sucks because I genuinely think we would have gotten there without it before long.
I fully agree with that point. If we hire the right people we are more than capable of doing it, and we will. But that has nothing to do with Qatar. They cannot magically gift us a mega transfer pot, the rules are much stricter now and, as one of the biggest clubs in the world we will be under the utmost scrutiny. The main attraction of Qatar, from their supporters viewpoint as I see it, is the removal of debt and investment in the infrastructure. Those are the things the Glazer’s let us down badly on, and the only person offering to fix it is SJ. Those two things are important to me as well. With the right people the football side of things can be run very well without interference - but we desperately need investment in off the pitch areas.

Closing in on exclusivity guys, just one more token and you can join them in private.

Well as I've said a few times, we had the same stories last summer, 100m budget, other than that only from sales. We only sold pereria and spent 250m

No, we didn't. That budget estimation wasn't because of FFP constraints.

Sports journalists have played the whole "Rumours say this, but the opposite could also be true" from the very start because it's one of those stories on their "patch" they have nothing really to offer on.

Then you have this guy, trying to act like Reuters' said it's a done deal just to try and save face after spending the last few days saying "nothing is close to being completed". I swear it seems like these journos spend more time trying to move goalposts to prove they're correct than actually being journalists. I can understand why they do it, though. Can't be easy working in an industry where reputation is paramount.

I get that with Qatar, they can feasibly react quickly as their bid is relatively uncomplicated. If the rumours of Ratcliffe's bid structure is true it's probably going to take him a while to be able to structure a new deal to respond with.

I'm hearing there's a late breaking offer from Kendall and Roman.

Tom Wambsgans to become CEO. Connor as World Club Ambassador.

Shiv on transfers. Cousin Greg gets the Youth Team.
Perfect. A not serious club for not serious people.

However if they bring Ratfecker Sam along I'm on board. Bet he'd sort everything out.

Their wage bill is €700m.

‘Constrained’ is the last word to describe them, they’ve just spunked a lot of money inefficiently, kind of like, you know, a certain Northern English club
A lot of that is top heavy though. 3/4 of their starters came on frees so got higher wages because of it. That’s why you quoted wages instead of transfer fees, let’s be honest.
They’re making a lot of sensible transfers these days to the point it looks as if they’ve given up on being the team in Europe. If everything posters said about Qatar were true they’d be going into financial overdrive to compete with other big clubs but they’re not.
It’s Vitinha, Nunes etc. in fact all of their big names have come over on frees over the last few seasons.

I was about to swing for you then I read your opening line and it turned into a loving embrace

If we stuck to the rules we could only spend £100m this summer. Do you really think that'd satisfy the Qatari's? Why would they be content sticking to the rules (which they've not done in the past) when they can do a workaround and get what they want much faster?

That's without sales. Many reporters have said the budget could easily stretch to £200-250m with sales. With clearing the debt that frees up another £50m supposedly.

Now I have seen it all we have Jacobs on the Utd Stand with Goldbridge and Keegan on Utd View with Flex to counter things

Yeah, if jassim and his team show that they aren't going to be fleeced and tbh this bidding process has me somewhat optimistic that they won't be, then we'll likely see the end of the Woodward style of overpaying for everyone

I don't know this takeover is a lot like when United bought Wan Bissaka.

The Glazers like Palace set their price and then just waited until Qatar met it. They've made 5 bids after all.

I'm not inclined to particularly admire SJR either, given his political philosophy and its concrete impact upon working-class people, but if that's true, absolute chutzpah. Who ae they to judge' anyone. What have these failscions ever accomplished in terms of launching and growing something? They can't even properly manage a global money-generating juggernaut, when all it took was employing proper decision-makers at an exec level, deferring short-term dividends and watering down their share interest slightly , as well as trusting management to competent people rather than micromanaging from a position of base, self-satisfied ignorance. They'd still be colossally rich upon selling out and we could have been run properly in the interim.

The lure of Qatar for most id say is just the prospect of infinite funds where they can do that and spend massive money every window with no risk of it ever actually hurting us. They see City and they assume just anybody with unlimited funds will eventually get there.

Reports suggest Qatar have paid about 5.5bn pounds and the asking price was 6bn pounds. There's nothing to suggest theyve paid that much

The Glazers just need to pull their pants down and get it over with at this point, its getting boring

Problem for Jimmy is no matter what he does, SJ will just slightly improve his offer…

Only way SJR can win now is to let the Glazers keep their class B shares…

It’s just not worth it…and to be honest it’s for the best for him. Invest that money in to Nice and bring them into the CL.

So is that Stone having a go at Reuters reporting

No he's saying what Reuters are reporting is true but what Reuters are reporting doesn't really mean much.

Reuters aren't saying Qatar have entered exclusive negotiations as many seem to think they are claiming.

Not at all

Agree.

Also Ratcliffe has mentioned that he will put the money into Nice if he doesn’t win so already planning ahead?
